Tournissan holiday home
About the home
Nestling in a secluded courtyard, this comfortable shuttered three roomed village house has just been renovated and decorated with hand-painted finishes to furniture, retaining touches of rustic village charm such as original French café chairs in the kitchen. Beamed ceilings and stone walls create a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
It was once a part of the original medieval château, the arches of which are still visible in some of the village walls.
A refuge from city life, it is the only house in the village that has a terrace- ideal on sunny days, including winter when the weather is usually good.
Situated in Tournissan, part of the canton of Lagrasse, this is a wonderfully intimate haven where you can either bring your book and relax with a good glass of regional wine, or use as a pied-à-terre while you enjoy everything the Languedoc has to offer. We love this region with a passion and we hope you will too.

Layout:
• The house is split over three floors and has a cellar.
• The cellar is level with the outside courtyard on the ground floor,
• The kitchen/dining area is on the first floor and is the entrance to the house,
• The main bedroom is on the second floor,
• The sitting room/second bedroom is on the top floor with the terrace.
• The typical village spiral staircase could be difficult for the infirm or little children; the terrace could also be dangerous for unsupervised younger children.
• It is well appointed as an ideal getaway for one couple, a small family or close friends.
Accommodation:
• A cosy kitchen with gas cooker, fridge, dinner and tea & coffee services, storage space, and all utensils that the keen cook requires
• A charming main bedroom with double bed and bedding for both warm and cold weather
• A sunny and colourful top floor room which has two divans, acting as either sofas or two extra beds, bedding, a television and CD player
• A terrace which is accessed from the top floor room with views over the village
• A shower room with loo & wash basin. Towels provided.

• Because the house has thick stone walls, is situated in a courtyard and double-glazed, it is airy and cool in summer and cosy in winter. The electric panel heating is adequate even in the coldest months and can be boosted with a blow heater. For the height of summer, a standalone water-based air cooler unit is available.
If visitors stay longer than a week, we could make a washing machine & tumbledrier available.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

There are long views to the distant Pyrenees. Ancient monasteries and ruined castles are reminders of the Cathars’ turbulent past. Close by, the Mediterranean coastline provides miles of sandy beaches.
The World Heritage citadel of Carcassonne will enchant you and whether you choose to ride a bike, play golf, boat on the Canal du Midi or just relax in the sun, you will be assured of a memorable holiday.

Guestbook for Tournissan holiday home
We had a wonderful time in your gite- the refurbishment is so tastefully done- we were just immersed in the French way of life for a week. We shopped in Lezignan market and cooked fantastic meals in your cosy kitchen, candles lit, so romantic. Enjoyed the restaurants in Lagrasse and the excellent shop selling regional products. The weather was warm and sunny, such a bonus for the end of October- the panel heating at nights was perfect, at times, it was too hot.We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace, we loved the view and the sound of the clock striking on the hour, also the sound of the bread delivery van hooting. We toured around the area, visiting the Chateau de Peypetreuse- the Autumn colours of the vines and the tree-covered landscape was amazing. We travelled to Pezenas, where I bought pottery and then to a pottery festival in St Jean de Fos- a truly French experience, jazz, wine, food and more shopping! Thank you once again for a wonderful Autumn break. We hope to return to your little gite again soon .( Hazel and John Armstrong October 2009)
We really enjoyed our stay there. We found it to be very comfortable and clean. We have two children aged 5 & 8 and both were enchanted at the thought of a balcony off their bedroom! We were a little concerned initially about the stairs but got over that quite quickly. Overall it was a lovely place to stay and get away from it all. The directions and information pack were also very helpful. -Tim & Emer Dooley August 09
We had a great time staying in your little Gite in Tournissan. The view from the window was just awesome and such a peaceful little village and very friendly. We had a meal in the Taverne just across the bridge. We had the set menu. The food was excellent and the various wines served to accompany each course were just fabulous.
We found everything in the house we needed and enjoyed experimenting with some traditional French dishes such as Cassoulet - good fun! As the weather was in the 40's we spent a lot of time in Ribaute swimming in the river. Many great places and villages to explore like Lagrasse and the market in Lezignan on Wednesdays is quite an experience with lots of bargains and great fruit and veg. Thanks for a lovely get away - great place to chill - just what we needed. Virgini was amazing, such a great help.many thanks (Andy and Sharron McClellend June 090
What a wonderful experience, it was like something out of a Joanne Harris novel (the author of Chocolat). We just loved it. We both said we'd go back, me to rest and explore more and Gerry with his bicycle... we love your enthusiasm and admire what you have achieved. (Carien & Gerry de Beer, (May 09)
What a warm cosy place to “chill out” for a few days ! This little house has such charm and warmth We loved your renovations - the house is really comfortable yet still retains the feeling of an old “French “ home. A great location and base for exploring the surrounding area. We took day trips to Carcassonne, Narbonne, Lagrasse etc which are within easy distance to Tournissan. A great wine-growing area as well. We will be back !! (Heather Morrison & Rad Dougall April 2009)
Just to let you know we viewed your cottage today. It's lovely - we're regretting not staying there- Robert & Wendy( June 09)
