About the home

The Garden Studio, entered through the glass patio doors from the garden, has a fully equipped fitted kitchen, and a dining area with delightful views back into the garden. An imposing archway leads into the lounge with its comfortable furniture, including a sofa bed, a log burner and a front door for easy access to the village. At the other end of this delightful room and under the original wooden beams is the sleeping area. With clever design and furniture placement, although actually one large room, this feels like 2 separate areas. The sleeping area has a double bed, chest of drawers and a wardrobe for all your storage. A shower room leads off this end of the room, with a large fully tiled walk in shower with plenty of storage under the vanity unit.

During renovation the plans were drawn up to make this a one bedroom apartment but when demolition work unearthed a beautiful hidden stone arch and numerous wooden beams we decided we simply couldn’t cover any of these features up with a wall! And so the Garden Studio was born! The character in this apartment and throughout our medieval house will envelop you and ensure your stay is truly memorable. This apartment is ideal for anyone with limited mobility as it offers easy, level access and plenty of room for a wheelchair.

Situated within the walls of the village our house offers visitors a relaxed, peaceful & historic holiday experience. During loving renovation, the house unveiled many historic secrets associated with the Cathars. With 15 authentic stone arches scattered throughout the property and various 12th century paintings you are sure to feel you have taken a step back in time! However, with all mod cons and a comfortable feel to the living accommodation, it is history at its best!

With arguably the most spectacular façade in the village, Neuf Rue de Cancans really is a gem nestled within the cobbled streets of a village voted 'One of Frances Prettiest'. One of the few houses within in the village walls to have a garden and a pool - a little piece of paradise can be found out here too. With its lawn & 2 BBQ terraces al fresco dining is a must. Imagine the sun bouncing off the medieval walls & the breeze blowing through the cherry trees - you are sure to find leaving difficult!

Within the hidden walled garden you will be pleasantly surprised to find terraced BBQ areas, a lush lawn with raised secure pool and sun deck and a Boule court. There is also a 2 storey children's play house nestled in the shade of the fruit trees.

Further details

Whilst the garden Studio is perfect for less mobile people there is not wheelchair access into the shower room. The rest of the studio has wheelchair access both in and out and throughout the rest of the property.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

With consistent temperatures in the mid 20s from May to September this part of Southern France has something to offer everyone, with its colourful landscape which changes dramatically through the seasons.

Lagrasse is a great base for exploring local history and architecture - with Narbonne’s fine medieval buildings and Roman beginnings, the great medieval walled Cité of Carcassonne, Cistercian Abbeys, Cathar Castles from the Albigensian crusades of the early 13th century on hilltops everywhere, fortified cathedrals at Beziers and Capestang and the exciting cosmopolitan southern cities of Toulouse, Montpellier, Perpignan and Albi - all these are within easy reach.

The Lagrasse area

The village has something for everyone - bars, restaurants, local artisan shops, boulangerie & once a month in summer, the local 'brocante'. Live bands play in the 8th century Abbey, classical concerts in the church & a world famous music festival during July, all lively & fun, a typically French atmosphere is guaranteed!

With village facilities including tennis courts, football & boules pitches only 2 minutes walk away & sailing & windsurfing a 30 minute drive away, there is also something to occupy the more sporty!! Skiing is only 2 hours away too. For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the Orbieu river which is only a stones throw away through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river & with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. The local market in the village offers superb local product every Saturday.

What an enchanting secret hideaway you have!! We couldn't have wanted more for our holiday to Lagrasse. The Garden Studio was perfect for the 2 of us and our dog and with access both into the garden and into the village from the front of the house the location was just great.
