Situated within the walls of the village our house offers visitors a relaxed, peaceful & historic holiday experience. We (Guy and Claire) provide a warm welcome and are on hand to provide advice or suggestions on where to visit. Our trip advisor reviews are excellent so why not search 'Holidays in Lagrasse' to view the comments from our past clients who describe the activities and the high standard of service that we provide.
During loving renovation, the house unveiled many historic secrets associated with the Cathars. There are 15 authentic stone arches scattered throughout the property and various 13th century paintings. The latter are currently under restoration with the first paintings unveiled in the village Maison de Patrimone (September 2014) revealing 20 chevaliers including one that depicts the coat of arms for Simon de Montfort who was hated in the Languedoc for his cruelty and ambition towards the Cathars, you are sure to feel you have taken a step back in time! However, with all mod cons and a comfortable feel to the living accommodation in the self catering gîte, it is history at its best! With arguably the most spectacular façade in the village, Neuf Rue de Cancans really is a gem nestled within the cobbled streets of a village voted 'One of Frances Prettiest'
The Arch Apartment so called for its many splendid medieval arches is on the first floor of our 13th century house and has two bedrooms. The Master bedroom (kingsize), so called after the beautiful 3 metre high double Venetian arched window at the foot of the bed, is a light and airy room with a handmade vanity unit and large Italian shower. The garden bedroom, so called for its lovely views over the walled garden from the Juliet balcony, is a large fresh room with twin beds (can be made into a double) and has a unique modern en-suite shower room situated through yet another stone arch. There is a separate WC.
The majestic Venetian window central to the lounge/diner allows the sunlight to flood the room and window seat beneath adds character but also invites languid afternoons of reading. The fully equipped bespoke reclaimed French oak fitted kitchen adds to the charm of this apartment. The apartment is fully air conditioned.
One of the few houses within the village walls to have a garden - a little piece of paradise can be found. With its beautiful grassy lawn, 3 BBQ areas, 5 terraces, pétanque area & solar heated secure pool with sun deck, spending time in the garden will be high on your list of priorities!
Cathar Trail: As Lagrasse nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the Cathar Trail there is an abundance of historic sightseeing to be done within the region.
Water Sports: Lagrasse has a small river beach which is a fun place to spend time relaxing and excellent for fishing. For those who want more excitement the beaches at Lucate and Port Nouvelle are only half an hour away. Here you can wind surf, water ski, kite surf, book fishing trips, hire boats and go sailing.
We provide: free wifi internet, bed linen plus tea towels and bath towels. Laundry facilities are on site. Cooler bags, ice packs etc are available for the days you would like to take a picnic. We can arrange holistic treatments, wine tasting, painting courses and for those feeling more energetic guided walking is available through the local countryside and bike hire can easily be arranged. For those of you bringing your own bikes we have plenty of secure space on site.

About this location
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
With consistent temperatures in the mid 20's from May to September this part of Southern France has something to offer everyone, with its colourful landscape which changes dramatically through the seasons.
Lagrasse is a great base for exploring local history and architecture - with Narbonne's fine medieval buildings and Roman beginnings, the great medieval walled Cité of Carcassonne, Cistercian Abbeys, Cathar Castles from the Albigensian crusades of the early 13th century on hilltops everywhere, fortified cathedrals at Beziers and Capestang and the exciting cosmopolitan southern cities of Toulouse, Montpellier, Perpignan and Albi - all these are within easy reach.
The village has something for everyone - bars, restaurants, local artisan shops, boulangerie & once a month in the summer, the local 'brocante'. Live bands play in the 8th century Abbey, classical concerts in the church & a world famous music festival during July, all lively & fun, a typically French atmosphere is guaranteed!
Village facilities include tennis courts, football & boules pitches, only 2 minutes walk away. Sailing & windsurfing are approx a 30 minute drive away, there is also something to occupy the more sporty!! Skiing is only 2 hours away too. For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the Orbieu river which is only a stones throw away from the gite through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river & with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. The local market in the village offers superb local product every Saturday.
Other activities in and around the area include ~ guided tours, painting, pottery, shopping, wine & honey tasting, shooting, boules, football, boating, canoeing, rock climbing, canyoning & relaxing!

"An Oasis in the village of Lagrasse"
We stayed here the last week in May. What a lovely time we had. The property was wonderfully restored and beautifully decorated & equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. It was sparkling clean. Guy and Claire met us on our arrival and were so helpful. They made us feel extremely welcome. The property is situated right in the village behind a high wall. You walk into an oasis of tranquillity, the court yard is beautifully laid out, with seating and eating areas and above ground pool. You walk out into a village parking area and you are within one minutes walk of boulangerie, cafes, restaurants, shops etc. Lots to do in the area, hiking, cycling, river walks and swims. Carcassonne is within 25 minutes drive, as is the Canal du Midi, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
Thank you Margaret and Bill for your lovely review. It was great to meet you both and we are so glad that you enjoyed our little piece of paradise in a beautiful part of France. With our best wishes Claire and Guy
