4 Vents is set in 22 acres of private grounds. The central decked courtyard and two side decked terraces are superb for al fresco dining, sunbathing and enjoying the natural surroundings. Dining furniture and BBQs are provided.

As you walk from the central courtyard, there is a short path through the pine trees which takes you to a huge 22 metre swimming pool and tennis court. We are landscaping around the pool and putting in a fabulous new summer kitchen and dining area so that you can eat down by the pool day or night. Off to the right, there is a path which takes you to the vineyards and the river Orbieu where you can bathe and picnic.

There are numerous trails around the property. At the front of the house there is a path which leads to two ponds full of frogs, birds and where the wild boar come to drink. We have put up swings for children in the trees. Often donkeys, goats and sheep come to stay and they make very good guests.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The rugged Corbières landscape of garrigue and vines is punctuated by medieval villages and wine domaines. There are many excellent wineries in the region, including the AOCs of Corbières, Fitou and Minervois. In winter this is a soulful place dripping in Cathar history and in summer the landscape bakes under the Mediterranean sun.

Cathar castles and castle ruins dot the landscape of the Corbières region. They served as military strongholds and sometimes as places of refuge for Cathar refugees fleeing the Crusade in the 11th Century. For example, there is Peyrepetruse, the most impressive fortress in the Corbieres and Queribus, one of the final refuges for the Cathar deacons.

Scenic places to visit include:

The medieval "Cité" in Carcassonne

Alet-les-Bain spa town and ski-ing resort in the Pyrenees

Rennes-le-Chateau, hilltop village once the capital of the Visigoth empire

The Canal du Midi which runs from Toulouse to the Med

Minerve - fortress town in the Minervois

Gorges de Galamus, spectacular cliff-hanging road through a narrow gorge

Mayronnes - a village five minutes from 4 Vents which hosts a sculpture park

Lagrasse

Lagrasse with its medieval Abbey and ancient bridges crossing the green waters of the Orbieu, is regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in France. It has a very cosmopolitan atmosphere with residents from all corners of the world and many artisans based in this village. Throughout the summer there are numerous village, music and arts festivals which are great fun. Markets take place in many villages. River swimming is very popular and there are numerous water holes and waterfalls to explore.

The Med Beaches are only 50 minutes away and the slopes of the Pyrenees beckon.

The area is a mecca for enthusiasts of riding, rafting, canoeing, fishing, hiking and rock climbing. There are two water parks within an hour's drive and a pirate theme park in Gruissan. In Carcassonne and Leucate there are the tree-top O2 Aventura parcs. In Sigean there is an African safari park. And if you want to improve your handicap, there are golf courses 30 minutes away.
