Charming apartment situated close to Lagos town centre, the marina, beaches, golf courses, tennis courts and public transport.
The apartment is fully air conditioned and has one double bedroom with built in wardrobes. The spacious living area has a futon sofa bed, dining area, and a breakfast bar separating it from the well equipped kitchen which has a washer/dryer, dish washer, oven and hob and a microwave. There is a complete bathroom and a separate shower room. Both the sittingroom and the bedroom have sliding doors opening onto the balcony with views over the well maintained gardens, pool and to the sea beyond. The apartment is on the second floor with its frontage overlooking the pool area. There is a lift and covered basement parking to keep your car cool.
Lagos is an historic walled town. It has many reasonably priced excellent restaurants, coffee shops, markets and malls which are a shoppers’ paradise. The pedestrianised centre of the old town and the maze of quaint winding streets make it a delightful place to explore.
The apartment is very convenient for walking to restaurants, supermarkets, the beach and both bus and train stations, so a car is not essential. There are several companies operating airport transfer services to get you to and from the airport if you don't have a car.

The Algarve / West Algarve region


The region has reliably glorious weather in the summer for beach and pool holidays. Or, if you prefer, cross the N125 to the north and access huge tracts of unspoilt countryside for walking or touring. Bird watchers are well served with the nearby nature reserve at Mexilhoeira Grande, a great place to see migratory birds. Or take the local train which follows the coast to the wetlands of the Rio Formosa area and then chugs on to to the Spanish border.
Most visitors like to drive through the eucalyptus forests up into the Serra de Monchique from where there are great views down to the sea and the restaurants are renowned for serving the local ham, cheeses and chicken piri-piri. Descending from Monchique one can take the waters at the Roman spa of Caldas de Monchique.
A drive to the southernmost point in Europe, Cabo de Sao Vincente, once called "o fim do mondo" (the end of the world) and Sagres where Henry the Navigator established his navigational school and then up the western Atlantic coastline with its spectacular scenery and many lovely beaches is also well worth doing.
Marine sports such as wind surfing and kite surfing are available, though if you are a keen surfer you will want to drive to Carapetera which is a world famous surfing beach on the west coast, about 40 min drive away. For family fun the Algarve boasts two water parks (Aqualand at Alcantarilha or Slide and Splash at Lagoa).
The nearby town of Portimao has a good selection of shops and is famed for its quayside restaurants serving grilled sardines. From Portimao you can now take a short cruise to Gibraltar and North Africa.
The Lagos / Marina area
The things that bring most people to the Algarve are probably its beaches and the golf. The nearest beach, 5-10 min walk from the apartment, is Meia Praia which is 4km of uninterrupted golden sand and has to be seen to be believed but Burgau, Donna Anna and Luz are also worth finding.
Lagos has lots of restaurants, many serving local dishes at reasonable prices. There are also some elegant, expensive ones for special occasions. There are coffee shops galore serving the best coffee ever and marvellous cakes and pastries. There is a big market on the Avenida open every weekday morning and a Saturday morning market near the bus station where you can buy local produce, even live chickens. The supermarkets are very good too.
Golf is the other big draw and Palmares, Boavista and Peninna are all world class courses within minutes drive.
Horse riding is catered for locally in Mexilhoeira Grande and Almádena, both within 10 minutes drive of Lagos.
Popular trips include taking a boat from the Avenida to the clear waters of the Atlantic to fish or to watch the dolphins. There are also organised jeep safaris or trips to the aquaparks available. Lagos boasts both a museum and a new science museum which is "hands on" for children. Some of the churches are well worth a look. There really is something for everyone.
