The Algarve / West Algarve region
Lovely region with lots to do and see.
The Western Algarve coast has a rockier more dramatic coastline than the East. The West Algarve offers a choice of outdoor activities including mountain biking around the Serra de Monchique mountains, surfing, boat trips and dolphin watching from Portimao Marina and horse riding, windsurfing, kite surfing and trekking.
For bustling West Algarve resort territory, Praia da Rocha with its stunning endless sandy beach (one of the best on the Algarve) offers a choice of watersports and boat trips as well as great night-life and a casino. Sample the chic shops in Portimao centre, visit historic Silves with its choice of museums and famous castle, hop inland to beautiful natural spa centre Monchique or head to bohemian jewel Lagos for surfing, great beaches, historic sites and a bustling marina. Pretty fishing villages and nearby dramatic rock formations are to be found in the Carvoeiro and Ferragudo area.
Ideal for Golfers.
Lagos / Porto de Mos area
Porto do Mos has a long wide sandy beach backed by high cliffs with stunning views. The beach shelves gently into the sea and you can play in the crashing surf. There are sun loungers and sun shades available to rent. The beach bars Campimar and O Antonios serve snacks and drinks all day and a full lunch and dinner menu is available with fish dishes being a speciality.
There is ample parking, a life guard is in attendance during the busy summer months. There is a bus service (no 13) available from the town centre. Very interesting Old town with masses of history and with loads of restaurants and night-life.
