Home description

Villa Moo is a beautiful detached luxury villa situated in a quiet location in the award winning village of AlmaVerde, 3kms or so from the small fishing village of Burgau. Completed in 2006 the Villa is now well established with maturing gardens giving lots of privacy.

Inside, the Villa has all the modern fixtures and fittings needed to enjoy your holiday and settle in very quickly including a fully furnished kitchen and bathrooms with under floor heating. All linen is provided and there are a couple of large beach towels available to use as well as a hairdryer in the master bedroom. With its own driveway there's ample parking at the front of the Villa and we would definitely recommend that you have a car although the walk into Burgau would take approximately 20-30 minutes and the management team can introduce to a bicycle hire company if you prefer.

The open plan living area works well and is a fantastic social area for groups of people - it is also particularly good for families with younger children. The management team have good links to local golf courses and family attractions like Splash and Slide so in some cases may be able to organise trips or discounted fees. There is a folder in the Villa with local maps and ideas of what to do but I'd definitely recommend speaking to the team if you want anymore information - there's nothing like local knowledge.

When you go to AlmaVerde the idea is to just relax and soak in the peaceful countryside. You have access to the 4 floodlit tennis courts and coming soon is the Clubhouse which will offer a restaurant and bar to guests. Nearby is a children's playground with swings, slide and climbing frame and also nearby is the Wellness Centre offering spa therapies and treatments - a popular treatment at the moment is the Beauty Body Bliss Treatment for €50, 2 hours of massage, facial and general pampering...just what's needed to start the holiday. The Centre also has WIFI that you can use but this doesn't stretch to the Villa. All facilities are within a 3 minute walk from Villa Moo and if you just preferred to go walking you have the whole of the National Park on your doorstep.

The Algarve / West Algarve region

Portugal occupies approximately one-sixth of the Iberian Peninsula and is situated in the far south west corner of Europe. With a vast variety of landscapes, Portugal offers a multitude of experiences and activities for all visitors including watersports, riding, walking, birding, golfing and motor racing to name just a few.

July and August are always the more popular months to visit Portugal, but the Spring and Autumn months also offer so much for those wanting to travel and experience local culture and festivals whilst escaping the heat and crowds of the main summer months. An ideal time to explore the countryside is during Spring when the warmer climate encourages wild flowers to appear giving a beautiful carpet of colour throughout Portugal. September in Portugal is known as the vindima (the vintage) season where grapes are harvested and crushed to wine in a spirit of festivity.

The Algarve hosts some of Europe's best sandy beaches, idyllic rocky coves, fresh seafood and picturesque fishing villages and is justifiably the most popular region in Portugal for both overseas visitors and the Portuguese themselves. It is a year round destination with bright, mild winters and long, balmy summers - it's rare for the sun not to make an appearance even during the winter which makes it an ideal destination for winter warmer golf holidays or out of season short breaks.

Situated on the outskirts of Faro, the International Airport is within easy reach of the main A22 motorway which runs all the way down to the Western Algarve where our portfolio of property lies.

The West is for those who want to get away from it all and is a very attractive place for beach lovers - beaches of the West are truly magnificent. Burgau up to Odieceixe in the far north western corner of the Algarve is part of the protected Parque Natural da Costa Vincentina and here you'll find some stunning scenery with sheltered and sometimes deserted beaches.

Inland, the hillside villages are very peaceful and well worth a visit with lush vegetation both wild and cultivated. The wooded Serra de Monchique is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers lovely walks with spectacular views. The small market town of Monchique is primarily famous for its altitude of 1,500ft as well as its wooden handicrafts.


Lagos / Burgau area

The villa is part of a new village, AlmaVerde, which is set in amongst a Nature Reserve so ideal for walks and bike rides. There are 4 floodlit tennis courts available for you to book and you can hire tennis rackets, shoes & balls so don't worry about wasting valuable suitcase space. AlmaVerde sometimes run little tournaments with neighbouring resorts like Parque da Floresta which you can sign up to or you can book group (or individual) tennis lessons. Please talk to the management team about any offers or discounts they can provide - they have a lot of knowledge about the area and are extremely friendly.

Burgau beach is within 5 minutes and there are many other beaches such as Salema, all within a 10 minute drive. If you wanted more of a pedalo or water sports holiday the beach at Lagos (Meia Praia) has a range of water sports available and you can take the glass bottomed boat trip from here. Also, nearby, for families are water parks and a zoo.

For golfers the villa is within 5 mins drive of both Boa Vista and Parc da Floresta, and there are many other golf courses within easy reach.

For the more adventurous, there are oportunities for parasailing, paragliding and even learning to fly microlight aircraft. Scuba divers can explore caves and wrecks in the nearby coastal waters, and discover an abundance of sea life.

Further up toward and above Sagres is great for surfers and there is a surf school available if you want a lesson or 2.

In the villa itself is a pack which will give you ideas of what you can do in the area as well as some local useful numbers.

Faro Airport is about a 50-55 minute drive from AlmaVerde and airlines like Monarch, EasyJet, BA and TAP Portugal provide good flight times at good prices. Monarch and Easyjet seem to offer more deals throughout the year than the others although that might change.

Directions from the airport to the villa are simple - follow the A22 toward Lagos and take the exit at Junction1 (signposted Vila do Bispo & Lagos). From here take the EN125 toward Vila do Bispo and drive into AlmaVerde Village at the Burgau traffic lights. It's a very easy drive and you are on the motorway for most of the journey - we send you detailed instructions of how to get from the airport to the front door when you book.

There are lots of different car hire companies to use and we would recommend that you see whether your airline offers any good deals with the flight. We can refer you to a small local car hire firm who will offer you a discounted rate - they meet you at the airport or if you would prefer they can organise a transfer to take you to the villa. They are based in Lagos so if you have any problems during your stay they are not too far away to help.

Steps from the living area lead up to a mezzanine level used for storing kids toys and you'll find a couple of boogie boards, pool toys and a large blow up whale for the pool.

Further details

Pool Heating:
The pool heating will be turned on and is included in the rent from 3rd July - 3rd September 2009. During the rest of the year it is an optional extra and charged at £88 per week.

Hired Items:
If you would like to hire any cot beds or highchairs please let us know - we need plenty of notice to make sure that something will be available for you. The hire cost is £35 per item.

If you would like some provision like tea, coffee, milk, bread, etc to be available on arrival at the villa you can order a Welcome Pack which is paid for before you arrive. The cost is approximately £40 and it saves you having to find a supermarket on your way from the airport.

The management team can organise babysitters and/or chefs that charge per hour - if you are interested in this please let us know how many babysitters and/or chefs you think you will need, for what days and (in the case of babysitters) for what age of children. We'll then ask the management team to provide us with a quote for you.

Cleaning & Laundry Service:
The villa is cleaned before you arrive and all beds are made up and ready. A complete linen and towel change is conducted after every 7 days and half way through the week the towels are changed. The villa is fully cleaned after your departure and we would be very grateful if you would please leave the villa in a relatively clean condition so that we can prepare for new arrivals quickly.

If you would like maid service daily this can be arrange but is an extra cost.

Arrival Details:
Once you have paid your balance we will send you full directions and access details. You won't be met on arrival but a member of the management team will come to see you either on the day of your arrival or the day after. The management team have an office on site and we'll give you the telephone numbers and office hours to take with you. At this point we also give you a full inventory for the property so that you can check through it on arrival if you wish - if there is anything missing (or anything extra!) we definitely like to know!

Security Deposit:
An refundable amount of £200 is held and payable 8 weeks before your stay. This covers any breakages, unpaid hire costs, postage of items left behind, etc and we request a 'check out' report from the management team after you return. I like to return the deposits within 2 weeks (as soon as possible) and we can send them back by bank transfer or cheque if in £GBP. We do try and operate an honesty policy in the Villa so if there are any breakages please let the management team know.

Wheelchair Access:
The living and sleeping area is all on the ground floor but there is a small step into the Villa and it hasn't been adapted for wheelchair users.

Conditions

A Booking Deposit of 25% of the rent (not including the Security Deposit, Hired Items or Welcome Pack) is payable immediately to book the villa.

The balance of the rent, plus the £200 refundable Security Deposit and any payment of Hired Items or Welcome Pack is due 8 weeks before your stay.

Payment can be made by bank transfer or cheque and we are happy to take payments in Euros if you would prefer. Bank charges will apply on any refundable security deposits received in Euros. Cancellation terms apply and these are listed in the Terms and Conditions you receive with the Booking Form.

Payment can be made by credit card through PayPal and there is a 4% handling charge on top of the payment to cover costs.
