Situated on a secluded plot of about 1 acre just outside Lagos, Sitio dos Gavioes evokes the style of a traditional Portuguese manor house. It has a spacious kitchen/dining room, an upstairs sitting room and 2 balconies. The large upstairs bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and a small dressing room for baby or little child. There are 2 camp beds which may be available as extra accomodation by special arrangment. Small downstairs bedrooms are air conditioned. Two have en-suite bathrooms and the other two share a bathroom. The large pool has shaded and unshaded areas around it. There is a BBQ. There are lovely views, and a delightful garden. Although the house is very close to the outskirts of Lagos it is quiet and secluded and often the loudest sound is that of birdsong.

Lagos is a lovely ancient city with a thriving club and bar scene, great restaurants and cafes, and lots of shops. Nearby are fine golf courses and beautiful beaches, some of the best surfing in Europe, superb walks, and many other things to do. We will send you information about things to do and there is more information in a folder in the house.

About this location

The Algarve region

The Algarve region runs along the south coast of Portugal from the Spanish border to Cape St Vincent, which is the most western point of mainland Europe. It is hot in summer and mild and sometimes wet in winter. Some people consider that May and September are actually the nicest months. The area has been developed for tourism, and the development is less intense towards the west. Cape St Vincent is about 40 minutes drive from Sitio dos Gavioes. The interesting town of Sagres is about 30 minutes. Lagos used to be the provincial capital. Silves which has a cathedral is inland but suitable for a day trip and was the provincial capital during the Moorish (Arab) occupation.

Within easy reach are water parks, golf courses, water sports, and lots of beaches which in the west tend to be smaller and more interesting than those further east. There are some of the best surfing beaches in Europe in the west of Algarve.

Lagos is an ancient city originally founded by the Romans. It was the provincial capital in medieval times and is associated with Prince Henry The Navigator, the half-English prince of Portugal who founded the Portuguese empire. Many beautiful old buildings survive in good condition, and are worth a look, especially the churches.

Lagos has a lively club scene, many restaurants and cafes, interesting bars, and all sorts of shops. You can book sea excursions at the marina or on the quay.

There are several fine golf courses not far from Lagos; at least 2 water parks and a dolphinarium within reach; a watersports centre at Luz (about 8 kms); lots of intersting beaches; fine walks; and great surfing spots.

We will send you more information about things to do when we confirm your booking. There is a folder with suggestions of things to do in the house.
