Further details indoors:
The property ticks all the right boxes with regards to location. It'is situated in an excellent location just 200 metres from Lagos marina, with its casual cafes, trendy bars and sofisticated restaurants. There's an array of water-sports available from the marina too. Why not try a sailing trip to the grottoes, or kayaking, or deep-sea fishing?
A 10-15 minute walk over to the other side of the river is the quaint, historic town centre with plenty of boutiques and sites of interest within the maze of cobbled streets.
The beautiful Meia Praia beach, that stretches for several kms along the coast, is only a 15 minute walk from the property..
Both the train station and the bus station are only a short walk away, so exploring the area by public transport is easy. Surrounding the town of Lagos lie many more glorious coves to explore. Local buses can take you out to some of Lagos’s other beaches that surround the ‘Ponta da Piedade’ peninsula, such as Praia da Batata, Praia do Pinhão, Praia Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo or the longer stretches of beach at Carnavial and Porto do Mós. If you enjoy walking, you can walk from the town centre along breath-taking coastal paths to all of these beaches. Boat trips to the caves and grottoes can also be organised from the marina.
Or you could hop on the train to Portimão if you're looking to do some shopping; the town is full of boutitiques plus there are 3 shopping centres.
A car is not essential unless you wish to discover other regions of the Algarve, such as the Monchique mountains, or the Moorish town of Silves, which are harder to get to by public transport.
For golfers, there are 2 superb golf courses within a few minutes drive: Palmares, which over-looks Meia Praia beach and Boavista golf and spa resort just on the other side of town.
Further details outdoors:
There is free parking in the street and you can normally get parked right by the cottage.
The Algarve / West Algarve region
The West Algarve has a beautiful climate, with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. The Atlantic Ocean is at its warmest in July / August / September, but the holiday season normally commences around Easter and ends towards the end of October.
Lagos is a vibrant town, full of history and a maze of little cobbled streets with lots of wonderful street cafes, excellent restaurants and lively bars. A place that you'll want to come back to time and time again.
The Lagos / Marina area
There are numerous water-based activities and the marina and beach, including sailing, wind-surfing, surfing, canoeing, fishing trips and trips into the coastal caves and grottoes. Or there are walking tours, bike tours, horse-riding, quad-biking, etc.
Coach tours are also available as are trips to the water-slide parks and Zoomarine (great day out). Lagos offers live entertainment in the main square throughout the main summer months and some of the bars have live music on the weekends.
