The Algarve region
This historic town has played an important part in the story of discovery and conquering the rest of the world. It was from this harbour that Vasco da Gama sailed in 1499 on his historic and epic discovery voyage. Essentially now an important tourist town there are still many architectural signs of its ancient past, even buildings dating originally back to around 1445. The town's more recently constructed Marina presents a lovely picture besides the boats that find it convenient as a permanent mooring it is usually full of yachts passing through, to and from the Mediterranean. Even in winter temeratures rarely drop below 12 degrees and can reach 40 in the summer months. The nearestairport is Faro which is 64 km or anhours drive.
In the Marina different boat tours (caves and dolphin tours)and deep sea-fishing outings can be booked.
Lagos has plenty of entertainment with a wide variety of bars, restaurants with delicious sea-food, a water Park and zoo a short drive away and is surrounded by the most stunning beaches.
December and January are the rainy months and the rest of the year is sunshine and clear skies.
