The Algarve region
Situated about 2 miles away, Lagos is a bustling ancient Portuguese harbour town, largely unspoilt by tourism, and is well worth exploring. The small village of Bensafrim is within about 2 metres. Two miles on the other direction is Praia de Luz with its lovely Beach and beautiful restaurants/pubs and Supermarkets.
The centre of Lagos has lovely old squares and pedestrian streets full of pavement cafés, restaurants, bars and shops. Here you will find the major banks and Post Office. Nearby is the Tourist Office with full details of local places of interest. Adjacent to the centre you will find the large central fish/meat/vegetable market, and the palm fringed promenade overlooking the harbour and sea. From here exciting boat trips can be taken to the magnificent caves and bays in the famous rugged Portuguese coastline and the lovely old fort, which juts out to sea, and museum can be found. A large supermarket offering comprehensive facilities lies just across the river bridge on the near side of town. There is a small supermarket and a few restaurants in Bensafrim, suitable for everyday needs. The interesting town and spa at Monchique, the historic town of Aljezur, Cape St Vincent and the spectacular Barragem da Bravura (dam and scenic reservoir) are all within easy striking distance.

"Superb Villa Holiday"
The villa was excellent and had all the facilities needed for the six of us.The pool was great and the idea of coming back to it after sight seeing and not having to "fight" for a sun bed was a luxury. We hired cars for the transfer from Faro and needed them as the villa is beyond walking distance from Lagos. The large supermarket in Lagos was brilliant for our "big shop" and had spatchcock chicken on the pool side barbeque on several nights. We did kayaking along the coast and travelled to Sagres lighthouse to see the sunset. The restaurants we visited were excellent and we would highly recommend the O Marafado for the tapas.
The owner, Molly was very helpful and we would return without hesitation.
Thank you William. I would love to have your party back again
