The Algarve region

The Western Algarve region of Portugal has a stunningly beautiful coastline with huge craggy cliffs and spectacular sandy coves and beaches.

The wonderful climate has year round mild weather with hot summers, cooling breezes and lots and lots of sunshine!

Much of the region is now a protected Natural Parque area stretching from the coast northwards to the Monchique mountains.

The coastal area has lots of quaint colourful fishing villages with narrow cobbled streets, small restaurants and cafe/bars and friendly, welcoming local people.

Inland there is lush vegetation with chestnut, cork oak and pine forests and the air is filled with the sweet scents of almond trees, wild cistus and lavender. There are many pretty hillside villages with small shops and stalls selling local handicrafts and there are beautiful views from the mountain passes.

Lagos

Lagos, the principal town of the Western Algarve, has a long seafaring history and major voyages of discovery were launched from here to the new world during the middle ages introducing new ideas, cultures, foods and spices to this area and the rest of Europe.

The narrow cobbled streets in the old town haphazardly radiate down to the waterfront and harbour area and are filled small shops and charming squares lined with restaurants and bars. At night the streets are vibrant with young people, families and tourists browsing for bargains, eating al fresco and enjoying leisurely walks along the harbour promenade.

Boat trips are available for dolphin spotting and exploring the coastal caves and grottoes, and the large modern marina across the harbour is linked to the town by foot-bridge.

Meia Praia, the longest beach on the Algarve, stretches eastwards from Lagos for 4 km and there are scores small beaches all along the coast towards the west where all water sports are available.

The headland of Ponta da Piedade, 3 km from the centre of Lagos, has fantastic rock formations and caves and is spectacular at sunset.

Lagos Zoo, a few miles inland, is very popular, as are Splashworld, Zoomarine and Aqualand which are a short drive away and are serviced by bus shuttles in summer.

Activities in the area include tennis, water sports, horse riding and golf and there are wonderful coastal walks offering fabulous ocean views and occasional small bar/restaurants for refreshments.

The many nearby restaurants offer the best local food and wines and fresh seafood at reasonable prices, served with a smile!

"A perfect place to stay near the ocean if you have a car"

Hi All!
I'd like to recommend this place to everyone who is looking for an opportunity to spend a holiday at the ocean side but not in the heart of a crowd.
Villa is located several kilometers away from the beach and city center which can be considered as a positive side. The place is very quiet, clean and nice. There's a pool, a place for children, two barbecue points. Apartment itself was also very nice. However more and better utensil would be better (there was no even an electric kettle).

We enjoyed staying at Quinta de Falfeira and I will come again if they buy a kettle :)

Cheers,
Iryna
