Lagos / Meia Praia area

With its picturesque cobbled streets, the historic town of Lagos has something to offer everyone, restaurants, bars, shops, market squares with street entertainers, a lovely promenade overlooking the cosmopolitan Marina, places of history in the town, the old slave market (the first in Europe), the Church of Santo Antonio (Golden Church), the old walls and the fort. Festivals and spectacular fireworks displays are regular occurances in the town. Lagos Zoo is approximately a 15 minute drive away. Visit the grottos on trips from the harbour, where you can also take trips to see the Atlantic Dolphins in their natural habitat.

MEIA PRAIA beach offers miles of clean golden sand and a clear sparkling sea with beach bars dotted intermittantly along it.
Activities are on offer including GOLF, FISHING, WATERSPORTS and many more.

There are two water parks and Zoo Marine (where you can book to swim with the dolphins!) within a 35/40 minute drive. Visit Cape St. Vincent - the furthest point west in Europe! Drive to the Monchique mountains for views not to be missed.

Trains connect from Lagos with the high speed train to Lisbon enabling a trip to this beautiful city.

How to get there

Fly to Faro - Cheap flights to Faro are available from Easy Jet, Jet 2, Thomson Fly etc. (Booking early can secure some really good deals).

On arrival you can travel to the apartment by car, taxi, rail or bus.

Car - All major car rental companies are represented at Faro Airport. Advance booking is advisable, speeding up transfer times and ensuring a car is available at busy periods. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Mainly on the motorway, directions can be e-mailed to you.

Taxi - Taxis cost between 75 and 90 euros each way. Check price with driver beforehand.

Train - The train from Faro to Lagos takes about 2 hours, price about 5 euros. You will need a taxi from the airport to Faro rail station, then a 10 minute walk from Lagos station to the apartment (uphill).

Alba Sul is a new developement with beautiful landscaped gardens situated in the Meia Praia/Albardeira area of the historic town of Lagos.

There is a large supermarket approximately a 10 minute walk away a smaller one at the top of the road from the apartment, also the Marina with snackbars, restaurants and bars. A 15 minute walk will take you to the beach or into the town.

Sunloungers are provided for use on the roof terrace and around the pool.

Palmares Golf course is a 10 minute drive and several other courses within a 20 minute drive.
