Home description
This sunlit semi-detached house is newly built. The name of the complex is Colinas De La Zenia Elite. There are pools within a minute´s walk from the front of the house and a playground for basketball or football a minute from the back. It´s about five minutes walk to Via Park 1 and 2 which have numerous restaurants, pubs, mini marts and Internet cafes. They´re all close enough to be very convenient but not close enough to be too noisy. I timed myself walking back from La Zenia beach and it took me just over ten minutes. It´s a really nice wide sandy beach. The water´s shallow for a long way out - great for kids - and there´s a paved path that goes along halfway up the cliff, which is great if you like walking in the fresh sea air. I don´t know how far it goes, but I walked for about an hour in one direction and didn´t come to the end of it.
If you´re into golf, you´re in luck! The house is within 5 -15 minutes' drive from five courses which include Club De Golf Las Ramblas, Real Club De Golf Campoamor and Club De Golf Villamartin. If you want to go further afield, there are about 15 golf courses within 40 minutes' drive of the house. Contact the owner for more details on that. Of course there are plenty of other activities to pursue such as scuba diving, volleyball (La Zenia beach has volleyball nets), horse riding, jet skiing, and other watersports.

The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Coach trips to various places of interest are advertised in the free weekly newspapers, e.g. The CoastRider.
If you fancy planning a longer trip, you can drive up the coast to Valencia, the home of paella has white sandy beaches, with mountains rolling away to the sea is a must-see. The city of Valencia blends Roman and Gothic architecture with ultra-modern constructions, and is an increasingly popular destination. The city is set upon the Costa del Azahar, quieter than the Costa Blanca to the south, with vast stretches of orange groves and sandy beaches.
La Zenia / Colinas De La Zenia area
There are many clubs, and associations for newcomers to the area to join. From sailing schools, bicycle riding clubs, to bowling and football, there is something here for everyone, not to mention the popular hobby of eating and drinking in the huge selection of tapas bars and restaurants to be found in the area. An excellent three course menu of the day, including wine can be had in many establishments from as little as 6 Euros each!
La Zenia is a very popular coastal area famous for its' 'Blue Flag' beaches. If you want a change from the lovely La Zenia beach, which is 10-12 minutes' walk from the house, the numerous blue flag beaches and local conservation areas such as Laguna de Torrevieja, Laguna de La Mata & Dunas de Guardamar are all within easy driving distance.
The beautiful salt water lagoon, the Mar Menor is only about 20 minutes down the coast by car and the theme park, Terra Mitica is less than an hour away. The area also is home to some fantastic birdlife, including pink flamingos!
The golf courses of Villamartin, Campoamor, Las Ramblas are 10 minutes by car and La Finca (Algorfa) is about 20kms away. Please check the owner's web site soon for specific links to the golf course websites.
If bargain hunting is your thing, you might wish to check the local markets. On Saturday mornings, there is a market at Playa Flamenca. It takes around 10 minutes to walk to it. (Go as if you're going to Via Park and keep walking a little further.) Of course the ten minute walk might seem a bit longer on the way back if you're laden with carrier bags of sweet oranges, clementines and other deals! There are markets on other days of the week at locations such as San Pedro Del Pinatar where items are a little cheaper. The free paper 'The CoastRider' which is found at pubs, restaurants, etc specifically detail the times, days and locations of the other markets.
Many superb restaurants catering for all tastes are to be found in the surrounding area.
On the topic of food, you will no doubt discover this for yourself but there is a vendor that sells really tasty rotisserie chicken stuffed with herbs. Assuming this vendor is still around when you go there on holiday, you'll find him in the car park at Consum supermarket (five minutes' walk from the house) until about 4pm each day and at the markets. You'll notice that many permanent residents will be wending their way to the Consum car park before 4pm to catch 'the chicken man' as the vendor is apparently 'affectionately' nicknamed. Try one - you'll be hooked!
Also, Consum does fresh baguettes every day. They're quite happy to give you loaves hot from the oven if you time it right. Good cheeses are amazingly cheap there - if you like strong blue cheeses, Gorgonzola and the like, or Brie, you'll be in heaven. A good sized wedge of Brie can cost a mere 1 euro fifty. This goes well with fresh baguette still warm from the oven and slices of flavourful Mediterranean tomatoes.
How to get there
The phone number and email address of someone who does airport runs can be provided. This is arranged by the tenant however. The closest airport is Murcia; the next is Alicante. Further details indoors: The bright cheerful sunlit house is a newly-built two bedroom semi-detached house with a full bathroom upstairs - shower and bath - and a WC downstairs. It´s secure and fully equipped for anyone to stay there. There is a double bed in the main bedroom, two single beds in the back bedroom. Downstairs are two sofas that each pull out - one to make a double bed and the other to make two single beds. In theory, the house could sleep eight, but I would say that would be a little crowded! (That said, two separate parties of eight who recently stayed there - July and August 2007 - assured me after their departure that they thoroughly enjoyed their holiday!) As mentioned above, I've installed a washing machine, but like most other Spanish holiday homes, there is no tumble dryer. There is no real need for one! The clothes dryer listed refers to a large clothes horse I have provided for you in the enclosed backyard.
It´s an east/southeast - facing house so the house is nicely lit by the glorious Spanish sunshine. It´s just lovely sitting on the balcony in the new morning sun having your morning coffee or tea. I have placed a table and some comfortable chairs up there for that purpose.
Hopefully the orange and lemon trees, etc that I´ve planted will be looking good by the time you arrive. The jasmine should be in bloom and smelling lovely! --------- Note: With regret, I must inform you that I rent to NON-SMOKERS only. ---------
Further details outdoors: As mentioned above, there are two pools within a couple of minutes' walk from the house; and a playground for basketball or football barely a minute's walk away. I have been assured there is no charge for using the pools.
At Via Park 1, one of two complexes comprising pubs, restaurants, hairdressers, Internet cafes, etc and 3 or 4 minutes' walk from the house - there is a children´s playground alongside an Irish pub that has tables and chairs to eat outside, which is very popular.

Conditions
You are welcome to bring well behaved ADULT dogs, but bear in mind that all the furniture is new, as is everything else in the house, so if your dog chews or in any way damages anything in the house, I hope that you´ll understand that you will need to remunerate me for the cost of replacement or repair.
Please note again that there is NO SMOKING in or around the house. Pay close attention to the information on the 'additional costs' section on this subject.

The owner's weekend rates apply to: Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
NB: Prices may be subject to change at the owner's discretion.
Please note that the house can be rented for weekends during low season. Long term rental also possible, depending on the dates involved.
Electricity, towels, bedlinen are all included in the rental. There is no charge to use the pools at the complex.
Possible additional costs and considerations:
A refundable security deposit is payable with the rental fee. This is a minimum of 100 pounds. This will be returned in full to renters so long as there is no damage, breakages, or smoking in or around the house (i.e. on the premises). (Since it's made clear that the house is only rented to non-smokers, smoking at the house at all - in the house or garden area - will result in total loss of the security deposit.)
As for payment, renters can pay by UK cheque if the booking is at least 3 wks in advance. Funds need to be cleared before the keys can be collected with no exceptions. In the case of a booking made 3 wks or less prior to departure, a bank transfer can be made to the owner's Spanish bank, but the charge incurred from the transfer which is approx 12 pounds made by the renter's bank and a few euros by the owner's Spanish bank for receiving it (exact amount to be given later) is borne by the renter.
Bookings of less than a month are held with full payment only (rental fee plus refundable security deposit).
Prospective renters should also be aware that cleaning fees are not included in the low rental fee for this property. It’s the norm there apparently, that holidaymakers pay the cleaning company directly when they arrive. Holidaymakers pay the cleaning company directly when they are given the key to the house - the funds do NOT go to the owner. I believe the charge is 50 euros for cleaning the house if there are four or less guests, but again, note that the owner is not involved in this. I will provide the email address for you to check on this, if you have a large party. Please ensure you have the appropriate sum available in Euros when you arrive. Many thanks!
It will be appreciated if renters would make an effort to leave the house as they found it. Broken glass or such like found left on the floor, for example, is naturally an unacceptable way to leave someone's holiday home. A sum for extra cleaning will be deducted the security deposit if the house is left in an unfit condition. Photos will be sent by the cleaning company to the owner in this event.
Airport runs:
Transport from Murcia (San Javier) airport is around 30 euros. (Takes 15 minutes approx.)
Transport from Alicante airport is around 40 euros. (Takes 40 minutes approx.)
In response in to some recent queries, please be aware that you will be dealing directly with the individual owner and that the price quoted above is only for rental of a fully equipped holiday home, ie. not a package holiday. This house is being advertised by the home owner, not by a travel broker. Flights, airport pickup, and other travel related expenses are NOT included in the rent and are to be arranged by the renter.
IMPORTANT: During peak season June-August incl. the house is to be vacated latest by 10am on departure day unless alternative arrangements have been made with the home owner.
