The Murcia region
If you're thinking of a Spanish holiday on the Costa Calida, or inland in Murcia, you'll be in a prime position to enjoy everything that life in Spain has to offer. Costa Calida, otherwise known as the "Warm Coast" extends along 250 kilometres of Spanish coastline. Until fairly recently it was relatively undiscovered – mainly due to its geography, sheltered as it is by impressive mountain ranges, and a more authentically Spanish way of life, are starting to look to the beautiful coastline of Murcia´s region. This is an excellent time to consider a villa or apartment here.
There is a lot more to Murcia / Costa Calida Region than La Manga – though if golf, tennis, watersports and rubbing shoulders with sports stars and celebrities is your thing, La Manga resort is the place to be. There is 250km of coastline – much of it unspoilt and undiscovered, with some truly gorgeous beaches. There is a great diversity of landscape in Murcia – from the coast and the Mar Menor, to breathtaking mountainous areas, to the wide arid plains where many spaghetti Westerns were filmed (the sets were left behind and there are three ‘Wild West’ theme parks to visit). There are beautiful National Parks in this region too, one of which – the Sierra de Espuna National Park – is only 40 minutes’ drive from Murcia Town, and is an unspoilt, mountainous pine forest and haven for wildlife.
Only a short distance inland from the obvious attractions of the coast there are some stunning places to be found – with lots of sleepy rural villages waiting to be discovered. One of the loveliest places in Murcia is the Ricote Valley. This was the last stronghold of the Moors in Spain and has a lush and beautiful landscape running alongside the River Segura.
In the Mar Menor area, Playa Honda, Mar de Cristal and Islas Menores are villages of summer and seafaring tradition and are popular with the faithful tourist who returns year after year in search of its peaceful environment. This also happens in Los Nietos, a small fishing village which fills to the brim in summer.
Further to the north, in Los Urrutias, is the Regatta Club of the Mar Menor. In the village of Los Belones, very near to La Manga, there is an important Golf complex with 54 holes; it also has tennis courts, areas for learning to play golf and a gymnasium. A complete sports offer in beautiful natural surroundings. There are also two horse riding centres in the same area for those who prefer a relaxing trek on horseback.
The coast of Cartagena is completed with La Manga, a wide section of land surrounded by two seas, with long fine sandy beaches and equipped with all the tourist infrastructures you could need for an excellent holiday.
La Union's mining history has been a deciding factor in shaping and forming the landscape on this short stretch of the coast. The range in colours of the various minerals give the area an exotic beauty which the visitor can appreciate on the journey towards the coast.
La Unión is not only famous for it´s mining background , but is host to some of the most spectacular festivals in the region, the music & Flamenco festival encourages visitors for many parts of Europe and beyond, if music is your passion then this is definitely one not to miss.
The city of Cartagena a 15 minute drive welcomes visitors from far and wide to the Festival of the Romans & Cartagenians with re-enactments of famous battles to free Cartagena from the grip of the Roman Empire.

"Nice accommodation, location not so good!"
The accommodation itself was actually very nice, two bedrooms, ample living space, decent sized kitchen and a great roof terrace and balcony. I just wish I could have picked the apartment up and moved it to a nicer location. Whilst ideally located for the market and train station the area itself felt a bit run down and a little rough. La Union itself is a great little Spanish town and I have previously stayed at the other end of the town which in my opinion was much better and felt much more welcoming. All that said, the apartment was nice and clean and the couple who handed over the keys and gave us info on the apartment were great, very welcoming and gave some nice tips for the stay.
Unfortunately sometimes people are attracted to the look and feel of the property pictured and don´t read the writeup posted on the website.
Riberagolf complex is on the edge of the town of La Unión which is an old Mining town, but it shows off the history of its past in the Mining Museum & tour of the old mines in the area.
Its not just a sleepy old Spanish town hidden away its also just a short drive to La Manga Golf resort and La Manga Strip or Cartagena both of which are interesting places to visit or take the train to Los Nietos Beach or carry on to Cartagena and explore this wonderful city.

Apartment lovely, could not fault anything.
We were in La Union for The festival which was wonderful, the people are very friendly.
There was air conditioning available but we did not need it as we were hardly ever in because of all the things going on around the town.
Local transport is very good.
This is our 6th time in La Union and we will definitely be back.
Thanks very much
Pat & Howard
Thank you for your comments regarding Riberagolf 01 La Unión is a special place to see the real Spain especially when its Festival time, the Spanish people certainly know to throw a party and are very proud of their heritage.
Hope to see you again in the real Spain.

"This is the real Spain loved it."
Apartments were very clean, everything you need from a brush to a tin opener. Roof top was a bonus as you could spend all day up there. The town it's self is a lovely town, there are lots of pubs & tapa's bars all offer great value for money. I have to say we had a great time lots to do. A visit to the touriest office is a must. Also a must a visit to Cartagena it is a beautiful place to see.We will definitely be back.
Thank you for your comments regarding Riberagolf its much appreciated. La Unióm is a great Spanish town with lots of history of its bygone days as a mining town you can catch up with its history at the local Mining Museum.
Love to see you again why not come when the Music Festival is in full swing. check the dates on-line.
