About this location
The Poitou-Charentes region
The Vienne Valley is an unspoilt paradise for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of nature. Bordering the Brenne National Park, there are many activities on offer such as horse riding, canoeing and watersports .The charming medieval towns of Montmorillon, Chauvigny and Angles sur Anglin are all within easy reach and Futuroscope theme park near Poitiers is also only an hour away.
Being France, there are many gastronomic specialites to try including the farci poitevin, a mix of herbs, cabbage and bacon, chabichou du poitou, a soft cheese made from fresh full cream goat's milk or the delicious broye butter biscuits and macaroons. The cognac vineyards can be found to the south and west of the Vienne and local wine is produced in the vineyards to the north of Poitiers using Sauvignon and Chardonnay vines for the white wine and Cabernet and Gamay vines for the red. Pineau des Charentes is a white, red or rose drink made from grape juice and cognac and is usually served as an aperitif.
On the borders of the Poitou, Berry and Limousin departments, you will not be short of things to do in the Montmorillon/La Trimouille area.It has a rich heritage with numerous manors, mills, castles and medieval towns.
Montmorillon is just 15 minutes away with more shops and restaurants and a Wednesday market. Wander around the cobbled streets and soak up the atmosphere of the City of Writing (Cite de l'Ecrit) in the old town. 15 minutes in the other direction is the town of Le Blanc, the main town in the Brenne National Park.
The medieval towns of Chauvigny and Angles sur l'Anglin are not to be missed. Chauvigny has a spectacular show with birds of prey flying around the castle ruins and there is also a great market on Saturday mornings. Angles sur l'Anglin has wonderful views across the Gartempe and Creuse valleys.
Horse riding, archery, rock climbing, bungee jumping and other sports are available at various centres in the area.
Animal lovers will not be disappointed with parks dedicated to monkeys (Vallee des Singes), snakes (L'Ile aux Serpents), crocodiles (Planete aux crocodiles) to mention but a few.
Finally, Futuroscope, which is just an hour away and is an amazing day out for the whole family with spectacular rides, 3D adventures and interactive activites. Do not leave before the evening fireworks and lakeside show.

"Rustic, charming and peaceful"
Tucked away in the centre of a village offering all necessary day-to-day amenities (grocery, bakery, pharmacy and bar), Studio Victor Hugo is ideally placed to explore the Centre and Limousin regions of France. The accommodation is well-equipped for a couple having a kitchen/dining area and a bed-sitting room separated by a single step and a glass-panelled door. A bathroom with shower, wc and basin is located off the bed-sitting room via two steps and door. The bed-sitting area offers direct access to a sunny, sheltered patio at the same level. Ascend some stone steps to a further patio and a large lawned area with swimming pool. We particularly liked the fact that the property owner (British) lives right next door and is on hand to help with just about every query and eventuality. Other than that, you would not know that she is there. If you want a quiet, unhurried, relaxing break, Studio Victor Hugo could be just the ticket for you.
