The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region
In the village of St Benoist Sur Mer you have the wonderful restaurant/bar 'le lapin que fume' which serves lunch and evening meals throughout the summer months. Only a 5 minute stroll, it 's also a great chance for the kids to practice their French each morning as it sells fresh baguettes.
La Mirabelle is under a 3 minute drive from the lovely village of Angles which has a large street market on Wednesday and Sunday mornings (in peak season) which is an excellent opportunity to sample much of the locally produced food including cheese, meat, fish and wine.
Located so close to the village of Angles you can visit in the evenings and have a choice of 5 great restaurants. You will also find a comprehensive folder in the gîte listing restaurants, activities and local events, as well as plenty of ideas for entertaining the children. There is a huge write up of over 20 local restaurants that we recommend with the kids and if you want some 'adult time' we also supply the baby-sitting too!
In the summer months Angles organises special events in the square including fun days, evening entertainers, jazz and blues nights, firework displays and night markets. You can sit with the locals and enjoy 'moules & frites' listening to a band watching the kids dance to their hearts content.
Angles has its own Office de Tourisme, as well as a post office, two banks, a hairdresser, a beauty salon, an aromatherapist, a pharmacy, five cafés/bars and four restaurants. There are also two supermarkets, two butchers, a fishmonger and a fruit & vegetable shop.
The large fishing port of l'Aiguillon is just 10 minutes away. Early risers can choose from a range of freshly-caught fish, mussels, oysters, langoustine and gambas at the town's fish market which is open every weekday at 5am. Those who prefer a lie-in can sample the seafood later in the day at one of the many wonderful fish restaurants in the town.
Whether you're an experienced cyclist or a leisure rider, this area has plenty of surprises in store for you. all along the 'Loire a Velo' signposted bike trial, you can marvel at the stunning Loire countryside, visit châteaux’s & Abbeys, stroll through quaint little towns & cycle through vineyards for over 110 miles!

La Tranche sur Mer / Angles area

Puy du fou grand park Puy du Fou is where time stands still - take a journey through 2,000 years of history. You will see villages from different eras, gladiators still doing battle, Vikings launching attacks on fortified castles and jousting knights plus a 1900 market town and a 18th Century Village. In the summer, there are 28 evening/night shows with 300 fireworks per show, 2000 digitally-controlled projectors, 1500 computerised fountains, 4500 costumes and many more special effects. Other sporting activities on the coast The beach at La-Tranche-sur-Mer (10 minutes away) has a 6-hectare area of water for water sports. La Rochelle The famous city of La Rochelle is just 45 minutes away. Explore the chic shops or watch the world go by from one of the many trendy bars or bistros. Fishing You can enjoy two types of fishing - On the freshwater rives upstream from the lock gates at Moricq (5 mins away), you can try for pike, perch, carp, bream and other bleak. You will need a licence which can be purchased at our office du tourism. Or you can fish in the saltwater reaches of the Lay, from the gates of Moricq to the mouth of the river which is subject to maritime regulations, so you can fish free of charge, for grey mullet, eels and plaice.

Further details indoors: The superbly appointed kitchen/sitting room has 3 meter patio doors opening onto the south facing gardens and terrace. It is covered with a large remote control awning, which offers a welcome shaded area during the day. The kitchen has been meticulously furnished and equipped with a large 5 burner range cooker, (always easier when cooking for large numbers) plus two dishwashers and a two large kitchen tables with seating for up to 14 people, where you can enjoy your freshly baked croissants! We have everything you would expect to find in the kitchen including a washing machine, microwave and a huge stainless steel '700' wide fridge freezer - (very important!) lots of large serving dishes, crockery and cutlery so there will be no shortage when cooking a large family meal.
You will also find kitchen essentials like washing up liquid, dish clothes, bin bags, kitchen foil, cling film, kitchen towels & salt & pepper grinders at your disposal. A few less items to pack and always appreciated.
The airy sitting room has a projector TV displayed on a huge motorised screen and offers the full sky+ packages including: movies, children’s and sports. Also not to be missed is the Wii console with a selection of interactive games for the whole family to enjoy and have fun with.
Relax in one of the large leather sofas and enjoy the 'home cinema' experience or just relax with a glass of wine and a good book! (A huge library of excellent books supplied!!!) or plug in your iPod to the excellent Sony surround sound system and indulge just for a little while, listening to your favourite artist!
In the large play room the little ones will find train sets, dressing up clothes with princess slippers and shoes to keep them entertained as well as lots more toys, videos, books. They can 'chill out' on the comfortable sofa and watch one of the Disney classics (which are all supplied!) whilst you relaxing in the sitting room!
La Mirabelle has five bedrooms, 2 masters, 1 twin/double and 1 triple bedroom with bunk beds and single bed and 1 quadruple bedroom with two sets of bunk beds. All bedrooms have been finished and decorated to a high standard and all beds have excellent comfortable mattresses. We only supply 100% cotton bed linen and all beds are made for your arrival. We also offer daily maid service so your beds can be ready for you to slip into after a hard day at the beach or round the pool!
Further details outdoors: The huge pool area is surrounded by decking and grassed area with plenty of sunloungers for sunbathing where the whole family can relax and enjoy themselves. The large heated PRIVATE swimming pool measures 10m x 5m with the HEATED toddler pool next to it. The whole pool area is within a fully enclosed walled area only accessible by lockable gates (which the parents have the keys for)
In the large garden the kids will just love the children’s play area with swings, slide, sandpit & tabble tennis table. You will also be delighted with the large chimney style barbecue which cooks food to perfection! Overlooking the gardens, there is a decked area leading from the patio doors with a motorised awning for dining outside.
The gymnasium is located in a large wooden cabin in the garden & is equipped with; •An electronic treadmill with Console Feedback: Level, Time, Speed/RPM, Distance, Calories, various levels and workouts. •A commercial cycle with an extensive amount of different levels and challenges, console feedback: Workout Time, Time of Day, Heart rate, % Heart Rate, RPM, Speed, Distance, Calories etc, •6 in one combined multi-gym / weights machine offering Lateral Pull Down, High Pulley, Leg Developer, and Abdominal Crunch Feature. •A stepper •Yoga mats It has an iPod docking station, so remember to bring your favourite work-out music!

Prices are based on up to 6 adults and 7 children sharing the property.
Prices are advertised in GBP, however, payments are taken in Euros on and exchange rate of 1.30%.
Credit Card payments are accepted, however a 2% surcharge applies with this method of payment. Alternatively payments can be made by international bank transfer.
Winter lets are welcome from Mid October through to Mid April each year at a price of 1300euros per month and are based on one family sharing. Bedding, electric, gas, water, personal taxes, sky packages or any fuel is not included within the price and is the responsibility of the tenant to pay.
Luxury 100% cotton bed linen is supplied within the price, as well as bath towels and bathroom hand towels. We also offer large 100% cotton beach towels for hire (saves that bit of extra room in the car on the way home for the great bottles of wine!)
