La Pergola is a four bedroom barn conversion (able to sleep up to 8 people + baby) approx. a 10 minute drive from 'Blue Flag' sandy beaches, and just a minutes stroll (on the flat) to a great village offering bars/cafes & restaurants with twice weekly street markets. It is the ideal holiday home for families sharing due to the centrally located living area with the sleeping areas on different floors ensuring plenty of privacy.
La Pergola has all the modern comforts you would expect when renting a quality holiday home with the excellent facilities offered - Air conditioned bedrooms, projector TV with motorised screen, UK TV, Wii console with Wii sports supplied (just great on the big screen!), iPod docking station, internet access, Jacuzzi baths, and the use of the shared heated and fenced 12 x 6m swimming pool with toddlers pool slide, plus a huge range of books (for all ages), family/children films, magazines and a swing ball in the garden for your evening family tournaments.

The 'home cinema' sitting room
The sitting room is open plan with two three seater sofa's and two comfy bean bag chairs for the children. It has a large library of family and children's video's and a large toy chest full of exciting toys for the little ones and plenty of games for the whole family to enjoy.
In the sitting room indulge in your very own home cinema by watching your favourite shows on the huge motorised screen - excellent for watching your favouite UK shows or a good old fashion film. Or simply relax on one of the sofas with a glass of wine and a good book (a huge library of excellent English books are supplied including fiction, classic novels, biography & thrillers!). Perhaps you would prefer to plug in your iPod and listen to your favourite artist whilst enjoying some easy reading laying in the sun with magazines such as favourites like Homes & Gardens, Country Living, 25 Beautiful Homes, Marie Claire plus Hello, Ok and Heat to name but a few.
The older kids will love the Wii console which comes with Wii sports - (remember to bring your own games too), whilst the little ones will love the toys, games & dressing up clothes and be delighted to find so many games and toys for them to enjoy - Happy children = Happy parents!
Not to be missed by the whole family is the huge selection of family/children's films. Over 50 classic family Disney, Warner bros, Fox & Universal top titles plus many many more.
You will also find a comprehensive folder in the villa listing restaurants, activities and local events, as well as plenty of ideas for entertaining the children. There is a good selection of write ups on local restaurants that we recommend visiting with the kids and also some great recommendation 'just for the grown ups!'
The well equipped kitchen....
The kitchen is very well-equipped including a 5 burner range cooker (great for when cooking for large numbers), a farmhouse table with 8 chairs, cafetiere, also for coffee lovers a Nespresso coffee machine, (which is a 1euro per capsule) dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, fridge/freezer and ironing facilities.
Baking - In your gite you will also find baking equipment so the kids can really have some fun on holiday making a mess! Mixing bowl, spoons, cupcake holders, and flour comes as standard in any good recipe!
Potting - Let the kids have fun planting their own seeds at the kitchen table - you will find various child friendly gardening equipment including seeds (sunflower, poppy and cress for example) potting crates and soil so the kids can spend the afternoon having fun. Take them home with you (the plants that is!) and watch the excitement on the kids' faces when they start to grow!
Colouring - Kids can relax at the kitchen table and enjoy colouring and drawing - we supply a good range of colouring pencils, paper & colouring sheets so the kids can have creative time enjoying drawing the best parts of their holiday!
Those little extras- La Pergola is a self catering holiday home so you will need to bring/buy basic essentials - however, to make things a little easier for your arrival, we are delighted to offer you complimentary a small supply of essentials including tea, coffee, sugar, washing-up liquid, dish-cloths, dish washer tablets, bin bags, kitchen foil, cling-film, kitchen towels and toilet rolls so no last minute dash to the shops upon arrival!
We have also catered for the little ones too with child-friendly crockery & cutlery, a baby-bottle warmer, hand food blender, black out blinds, a microwavable bottle steriliser, a high chair and a pushchair (all included in the price).
Additional equipment can be hired such as high chairs & travel cots if more than one baby is in your party.
Air-conditioned bedrooms and bathroom arrangement
La Pergola has four bedrooms each with a free-standing air-conditioning unit- two master bedrooms, one twin bedroom and one bunk bedroom.
The master bedroom on the ground floor has 15ft-high chestnut and oak ceilings and has a very light and airy feel to it. It is a delightful, sunny bedroom with double doors leading outside. Also on the ground floor is a bathroom with Jacuzzi bath and hand wash basin. Opposite is a shower room with WC and hand wash basin.
The master bedroom on the first floor is quite special - the furniture (all handmade and antique) was bought as a complete set from a large old farmhouse here in the Vendée. The ornate, hand-crafted bed looks stunning set against the buttermilk-coloured walls. The mirror on the wardrobe and the marble inlay of the two side tables finish the room off beautifully. It has en-suite bathroom which can also be accessed from the children's twin bedrooms (known as Jack & Jill bathroom). The bathroom has a Jacuzzi full size bath as well as separate shower cubicle and marble top hand wash basin.
Also on the first floor is the separate WC with hand wash basin.
The twin bedroom on the first floor has two adult-size, high quality divan beds, which can be made into one double bed if more than four adults are sharing. The bookcases are stacked solid with books and children's toys. The spacious bunk bedroom on the ground floor also has a toy-chest full of toys and board games - and there's lots of room to play!
100% cotton bed linen as well as bath and hand towels are supplied and beds are made up ready for your arrival for each guest named on the booking form . We also offer large 100% cotton beach towels for hire (saves that bit of extra room in the car on the way home for the great bottles of wine!)
We also offer daily maid service (at a supplement) so your beds can be ready for you to slip into after a hard day at the beach or round the pool!

The 12 x 6 meter shared swimming pool and toddler slide is surrounded by 150m2 of decking with lots of sun loungers. The pool has been specifically designed and built with children's enjoyment in mind and has both a SAFETY FENCE and has lockable child safety gates.
The shallow end is only 1.05m deep (i.e. shallower than normal), so young children can stand in the water easily. Please note - the swimming pool is shared between our 3 properties, (which are all 4 bedrooms) Le Palmier, Le Pressoir and La Pergola so a great opportunity for the kids to meet new friends.
The shade on your private terrace area gives a welcome break from the midday sun, it is also the perfect spot to relax as lunch is served! You will also find garden furniture, a chimney style BBQ and a herb garden for you to pick mint from to enjoy your 'pimms' on the deck at 5pm!

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region
La Pergola is only a 2 minute stroll from the centre of Angles, which has a large street market on both Wednesday and Sunday mornings in the summer months - an excellent opportunity to sample much of the locally produced food, including cheese, meat, fish and wine.
During July and August, Angles organises special events in the square including fun days, evening entertainers, jazz and blues nights, firework displays and night markets. You can sit with the locals and enjoy 'moules & frites' listening to a local band play and watch the kids dance to their hearts content.
Located so close to the village, you can either take a leisurely walk down in the morning to pick up your fresh baguette and croissants, or stroll down in the evenings to a choice of great restaurants. You don’t have to load all the kids in the car (plus all of the equipment that comes with having a family) to have a great meal out.
The village has its own Office de Tourisme, as well as a post office, two banks, a hairdresser, a beauty salon, an aromatherapist, a pharmacy, five cafés/bars and four restaurants. There are also two supermarkets, two butchers, a fishmonger and a fruit & vegetable shop.
The large fishing port of l'Aiguillon is just 10 minutes away. Early risers can choose from a range of freshly-caught fish, mussels, oysters, langoustine and gambas at the town's fish market which is open every weekday at 5am. Those who prefer a lie-in can sample the seafood later in the day at one of the many wonderful fish restaurants in the town.

The La Tranche sur Mer / Angles area
Blue Flag Sandy Beaches (10 minutes away by car)
The fantastic sandy beaches are over 13 kilometres long - and 8 kilometres of them face due south. La-Tranche-sur-Mer and Les Conches are ideal for families with children. They are approved as a "Kids’ Station", which means that the resort is a safe environment for children to play in. It also has specialist equipment and entertainments which specifically cater for families.
Great Quad Bike/karting experience (2 minutes away by car)
Let the kids (and indeed the big boys!) be the next Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button for a while! Whiz around the course and have a great thrill trying to beat your opponents. For safety reasons, the kids go on the course only with other children and the safety briefing is excellent. Indian Forest Adventure (5 minutes away by car)
This great theme park has marked trails in a forest, as well as 122 different challenges. Suspended on safety harnesses, you are able to climb, swing, dismount and even slide across the forest at a height of 20ft above the ground. There is also an adventure area for toddlers, with themed bouncy castles, a ball park, rock climbing and an inflatable park. This is a 2 hour journey into the depth of the ocean - The kids will just loved it. There are over 10,000 Atlantic, Mediterranean and Tropical species to view in an amazing 3 million litres of water. Dunes Adventure Park (1hr away by car)
With over 38 different activities for the children to play on, the kids are bound to find a favourite! The kids will thoroughly enjoyed everything on offer especially the water slides, trampolines (fully enclosed) and toboggan rides. A very safe, clean and friendly environment and lots of under cover shaded picnic area.
Puy du Fou (1hr 30mins away by car)
This is where time stands still - and will be an instant hit with children and adults alike. You'll see villages from different eras, gladiators still doing battle and Vikings launching attacks on fortified castles! In the summer, there are 28 evening/night shows with 300 fireworks per show, 2000 digitally-controlled projectors, 1500 computerised fountains, 4500 costumes and many more special effects. Cycle rail on tracks (1hr 30 away by car)
This is a great chance for the entire family to have some quality time together taking in the beautiful countryside, and wildlife whilst enjoying a picnic. Fishing on the rivers (5 minutes away by car)
You can enjoy two types of fishing - On the freshwater rivers upstream from the lock gates at Moricq, you can try for pike, perch, carp, bream and other bleak. You will need a licence which can be purchased at the villages Office du Tourism. Or you can fish in the saltwater reaches of the Lay, from the gates of Moricq to the mouth of the river which is subject to maritime regulations, so you can fish free of charge, for grey mullet, eels and plaice

"My husband and i, and our two girls, now aged 3 and 5, holidayed in La Pergola this summer and last. We had two fantastic family holidays, joined the second time by the grandparents, who also had a wonderful time. Angles is a delightful village with lots of places to potter to in a matter of minutes; plenty of local shops, bars and also the summer markets, which kept us all happily occupied. The sea is only a short drive away, and the beaches at La Terriere are beautiful-vast, unspoilt, yet manned by lifeguards with a beach bar serving delicious food (only in France could such good food be served in such basic surroundings!). There is a lot to do in the surrounding area (great beaches, watersports, sightseeing, adventure parks) and there was a great folder of information on places to see provided by the gite's owners which was very helpful.
La Pergola itself is a fantastically furnished gite- it is beautifully decorated and stacked out with everything you might need, from baby equipment to great children's dressing up gear, books and videos (for young and old!), magazines, the Wii...
I spent a lot of time researching this holiday on the net and this place really stood out and the reality did not disappoint. There was also plenty of space, even when the grandparents were with us, as effectively there are two "zones", with two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and a further two bedrooms plus bathrooms downstairs, so we all still felt that we had our space to chill in. The pool is also gated and locked meaning that the children could be outside playing safely. The staff looking after the gite were great- very responsive. I called out the maintenance team before 8am one morning and they arrived in under an hour, which I found impressive. Everything from the location, the weather, the gite, the pool, the staff- all added up to a perfect holiday. I have recommended this to my friends!"
"Just wanted to drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in your gite. The standard of accommodation was far above the "norm" for the Vendee and as you said on your website you have thought of everything. May I also comment on Danny who was always friendly and polite and when we required more bedding when we arrived there was no problem at all with him getting it to us. As the face to your company he really is excellent."
"The house was clean and very welcoming. We arrived a little early and the house was still being cleaned but we were able to unpack the suitcases and leave them at the house while we went off to start our holiday on the beach, which is literally only 10 mins by car. Everything has been thought of in the kitchen and it was great not to have to rush off for tea and coffee as a welcome pack was waiting on the kitchen table for us. The weather was excellent throughout our stay so we made full use of the BBQ and the pool, Although it is a shared pool there was plenty of room for everyone and the layout of the furniture made it also seem as though it was just for us. The bedrooms were a lovely size and the bathrooms were of a high standard. Bedding and towels of a very high standard. We needed extra bedding and phoned up the maintenance number who reacted straight way and brought over the extra items. They also helped us work out the video player and told us which beach was the best. The weekly moules and frites in the village are a definate must it is a lovely atmosphere with all the locals joining in. We will definately be back"
"Fantastic accommodation and brilliant location for the true french experience. Based in a lovely french town with local shops and a great street market twice a week enables you to soak up the experience. The house was very spacious and all bedrooms large so no-one felt left out. The bathrooms were excellent with jacuzzi baths and very powerful showers. The kitchen was very well equipped and the owners had left you wanting for nothing. The team who maintained the house during your stay were very good and nothing was too much trouble for them and only a phone call away. The pool was a very good size and although shard by other families this did not spoil our holiday in the least. I don't want to tell you how good it is because then it would get fully booked and we would not be able to return!!"

From booking we experienced a personal service with all communication. About a week after booking we received the ferry discount code which worked fine for both cars. We received an email about a week before we were due to leave for our holiday with detailed information about things we needed to do, before, during and at the end of our stay. This was followed up with a phone call to check we were happy with everything and that answered the couple of extra queries that i had about our journey. I've never had service like this before - outstanding.
We found the house and keys easily. The accommodation was brilliant, clean and stocked with handy extra's we've not had when staying in self-catering accommodation - hand wash for example. The towels and bedding were of a high quality too. There was a train track built on the floor of the children's bedroom which was great after the long drive, something to play with immediately and lots of other toys. The TV set up was brilliant, there's a wii we took our 2 remotes and 4 of us could play at once. There were books and magazines about too. The kitchen was well equipped for the few nights we cooked in and there was space to eat. The washing machine was essential with the children. The pool was very secure there was no way children could get in without an adult. It was so warm in September and I think we went in everyday and not just for a few minutes. The roman steps were great for our 3 and 1 year old to play on. The only problem with the accommodation was the lack of stair-gate at the bottom of the stairs but we managed to contain our smallest traveller and I'm not sure how it could be gated.
The information folder in the gite was very useful and we followed several of their recommendations. The supermarkets were easy to find. We ate at a restaurant on the left just after the church on our first night which was very good and only a short walk from the gite. Then we ate at Le Lapin qui fume in the next village over which was a short 5 minute car ride away, I'd rate the one in the village highest but both were good. We found Jard sur mer and loved the crepe restaurant near the roundabout looking at the windmill. The beach at Jard sur mer great too. We went into La Rochelle handily on the only rainy day and went to the aquarium (which was great) and parking was good. We ate on the harbour but walked around later and wished we'd ventured over into the town to eat.
We experienced one powercut during a storm and the power didn't come back on afterwards we got in touch with the call people and someone came and fixed it within 15 minutes. We didn't have any problems after that.
A great holiday and I would recommend it hence the review!"

"I booked the gite for a week for my 60th birthday party and on arrival was amazed that what you saw was what you got. The pictures described the gite perfectly. There was everything in the gite you could want, from bottle opener to home cine viewing (not that we did a lot of that). Although there were no children in my party, I was really impressed at how much care had gone into catering for the children and how many toys/books were supplied. The kitchen was FULLY equipped and if I thought "wish I had that" when I looked , it was there. Amazing!!! Will definitely go back, this time with my grandchildren. Children's safety was apparent by the fully fenced pool, so I will be able to let my grandchildren play outside without worry. The property was immaculately clean with a property guide in the lounge for my use, listing numerous restaurant and local places of interest. I would, and have, recommened this gite to friends"
Many thanks for everything, my family have had a great week in the Vendee. Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay, complete with every creature comfort. The kids loved the pool (27degrees!) the adults loved the peace and quiet, helped much by the plethora of games to hand. All of this combined with a beautiful welcoming village made for the perfect family holiday.
"Had a great holiday at this beautiful gite this summer. A real "home from home" with all the facilities we needed to hand - the kitchen was well equipped and everything very clean. The kids really enjoyed the pool and there were plenty of games, toys and dvds to keep them occupied on days we didn't venture out.
The location is fantastic, near the beach and lots of attractions in the area. We can really recommend a visit to Puy du Fou! Sunshine, swimming and cheap wine - great!"

Prices are based on up to a maximum 4 adults and 4 children sharing the property.
50% of the total booking fee plus a security deposit of 200euros per week is taken at the time of booking with the remaining balance due 16 weeks prior to arrival. For reservation made within 16 weeks of the arrival date the full balance is due at the time of booking
Payment can be made by credit/debit card at a 3% charge. Prices are advertised in GBP, however, payments are taken in Euros. A standard end of stay cleaning charge is due at £49.00 and must be paid prior to arrival.
100% cotton bed linen as well as bath and hand towels are supplied for each guest named on the booking form with all beds made ready for your arrival. We also offer large 100% cotton beach towels for hire (saves that bit of extra room in the car on the way home for the great bottles of wine!)
Pool heating is included in the months of July and August, all other months a charge of £100 per week is applicable.
Winter lets are welcome from Mid October through to Mid April each year, minimum 3 month let priced at £800 per month and are based on one family sharing. Please visit our website for full details of our winter lets.
