Home description
La Torre Golf Resort is the second of the Polaris World Resorts and has an 18 hole golf course designed by top designer Dave Thomas and built to exacting standards. But the resort has so more to offer than just golf, there are fabulous swimming pools, one of which is your own private pool (which incidentally has a stream to swim against which you can turn on to get fit and tone up!), tennis courts, shops, fabulous fine dining restaurants, bars and cafes. There is a supermarket so you dont even need to go off resort!
However if you want to discover more of Spain this is an ideal and central location on which to base yourself to tour the area. The city of Murcia, famous for its Moorish architecture and vast cathedral, is only 20mins drive from the house. Then there are the beaches ... 271km to choose from in the area. The beaches of the Mar Menor are closer but if you prefer a colder deeper sea the Mediterranean is not far away.
Or you can just relax and have a fantastic holiday, lounge by the pool, with a glass of crisp rioja and a good book. Enjoy the sunshine and feel healthy. Or you can golf, golf, golf til you drop. Polaris have 4 golf courses currently available to try and there are buses to run you to and from the various courses. The green fees have been kept deliberately low to compete with other golf complexes. From time to time there is an offer of a green fee and lunch at the restaurant at La Torre or Mar Menor, this is subject to seasonal availability but if it is "on" we will secure it for you.

The Costa Calida/Murcia region
Nestling at the bottom of the Costa Blanca, the Costa Calida is one of the least known and most unspoilt regions of Spain, guaranteed to give you a taste of "real Spain".
With over 315 days of sunshine every year it is little wonder that the Costa Calida means "warm coast" and the unspoilt inland waters of the Mar Menor, the largest natural lagoon in Europe, offer safe and warm water bathing all year round.
The area is well known for the La Manga Club resort, renowned for its Three championship Golf Courses, LTA Tennis Centre Training Ground and being the training ground of visiting football teams from Spain, the UK and the whole of Europe.
The area has much to offer than just La Manga Club. There are 8 further golf courses of an excellent standard, and a further 10 under development in the area. If a golfing holiday is your ideal then this is the perfect place for you. Once you have enjoyed the 4 Polaris World courses you can try Roda Golf and Beach which is only 10 mins drive from the villa, or La Serena again 10 mins drive. La Serena is a tricky course and take lots of spare balls as there are 16 holes with water. The Club house is excellent and they do a very welcome lunch after golf at a good price. Mosa Trajectum is a little further away, this has three 9 hole golf courses and so you can choose to play 18 holes or 27, plus there is a further Challenge Course. Finally Hacienda del Alamo, the furthest from the villa but if you are an enthusiastic golfer this is worth the effort. 18 holes of large open fairways, a truely excellent course, very well presented and maintained. Prices range for 55euros to 90euros for a Green Fee. (prices subject to change)
But Murcia is more than just golf, it has a history that pre dates the Romans. If you are here in September then it is worth a visit to the Romanos y Catheginas festival. Every year in the third week of September the people of Cartagena reinact the Roman invasion, the battles, the marriages and the departures! This live history takes place every evening and all day Friday Saturday and Sunday there is a battle or a procession somewhere in the town. Then they pack up and go back to work for Monday morning. The costumes, the atmosphere, the noise it is really worthwhile seeing, especially bearing in mind that these are ordinary people from the towns and villages around Cartagena.
Murcia City is only 15 mins drive and steeped in history. Famous for its Moorish architecture and huge cathedral which exhibits an eclectic mix of ancient, old, georgian and modern architecture. The city has of course lots of wonderful shops and places to eat. Christmas time in Murcia is particularly special with the Christmas street lights and the palm trees decorated in fairy lights.
There is plenty of choice of beaches in Murcia along its 271km of coastline. From the villa the safe, shallow waters of the Mar Menor are the closest and easiest to find at the town of San Pedro. This is an excellent stretch of coastline, there are plenty of beach bars and cafes and the town centre. There is also a brand new Spa which you can take a treatment, normally one which involved lots of mud, to rejunvenate and replenish your skin. If you are not into a mud coating then they do other treatments from manicures, pedicures and massages. If you have a sports injury there is an excellent fully qualified physiotherapist. The prices are very attractive for treatments and the rooms and thermal pools are truely superb.
La Manga Strip ... the "sleeve" of land that runs from Cabo de Palos in the south to San Pedro in the north is 18km long and encloses the warm tranquil waters of the Mar Menor to the west and has the livelier colder Mediterranean to the east. The Strip is up to 1km wide in parts and in others is is merely 100m allowing only for the road to run through with a beach on either side. La Manga Strip is a town in its own right, albeit an long thin one! There are shopping centres, restaurants and bars set in plazas or squares. The marina at the Puerto Tomas Maestre is beautiful and houses some stunning boats and yachts that most of us can only dream of, but the restaurants are great and the atmosphere is wonderful.
Water sports ... well there could not be a better or safer place to learn to sail, jet ski or kite board. The area has a number of sailing schools with a wide range of boats and dinghies on which to learn to sail or to brush up your sailing skills. Diving is a popular sport and there are a number of different diving schools offering anything from the beginners course to night dives for the more expereinced diver. The dive around Isla Grosa, for example, takes around 1 hour and takes your through the magnificent quartz caves.
La Torre Golf Resort area
This new and exciting resort, constructed by Polaris World is situated barely 12kms from the warm waters of the Mar Menor, a 10 minute drive from San Javier, Murcia International airport and 60 minutes from Alicante airport.
The centre of Murcia, capital of the province, is 30 minutes away and the ancient Roman and historic port of Cartagena is even closer. A short walk from the villa you will discover the new 5 star hotel complex with spas, fitmess centre, supermarket and shops.
Los Alcazares is a great town to visit. It has a long sandy beach which is on the shallow and safe waters of the Mar Menor. The beach has a wide promenade which runs along its entire length and has numerous beach bars and restaurants. The town itself has numerous large supermarkets, there are quiet plazas to enjoy a coffee or sit out and enjoy a dinner in the evening. There are some lovely Spanish restaurants and tapas bars, Patio II is very popular for barbequed meats with a very Spanish style. There are international restaurants, an Indian Restaurant - Hindustani - is certainly the best one that I have tried in the area. There is a great chinese restaurant part of the group RUN. There are numerous tapas and spanish restaurants, in particular try the 1920´s hotel on the beach and just behind the townhall for best tapas and a perfect location eating on the promenade, by the beach and looking out into Mar Menor.
