Further details indoors:
The location of this apartment is more central than anywhere else on the resort. IT IS DIRECTLY IN THE CENTRE BETWEEN THE SUPERMARKET, THE TOWN CENTRE, THE HOTEL AND THE GOLF CLUB. NOWHERE ELSE ON THE RESORT CAN YOU WALK LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES AND ARRIVE AT ANY OF THESE FACILITIES. The apartment has one of the LARGEST LIVING SPACES on the resort, with the added advantage of overlooking two swimming pools. Previous guests have adored this, having experienced apartments situated on the golf course or the Town Centre. The golf course apartments have several disadvantages which is where this apartment really comes into its own: The golf course is very dark at night time, meaning there is no evening view whilst sitting on the balcony. Fertiliser is sprayed on the golf course regularly, which can leave a very strong, unpleasant odour. Stray balls from the golf course can be an unwelcome and unsafe intrusion when lazing by the pool. The living space in front-line golf apartments is significantly smaller, and few directly overlook swimming pools. The Town Centre apartments may be large, however they do not have close access to swimming pools and it can be quite noisy in the summer evenings. This apartment has the bonus of overlooking the wide boulevards with flowers as well as swimming pools, and is extremely peaceful.
The living room is larger than average for La Torre apartments, and the interior design of the apartment enhances this, resulting in a bright and airy apartment with panoramic views of the swimming pools and landscaped gardens. Adding to the airy feel of our apartment is the unusual feature of being able to open the very wide patio doors, the back bedroom french doors, and kitchen window, to create a through breeze throughout the apartment. The air conditioning is rarely necessary due to this unique feature.
The living room contains a really comfortable leather sofa and armchair, along with a dining table and four chairs. The living room is surrounded by the large terrace on one side, and the kitchen on the other side. An electric shutter (operates at the press of a switch) provides shade in the sun, and security at night/when the apartment is not occupied.
The kitchen is very well equipped for all your dining needs, with a full size oven and hob, electric kettle, full size fridge-freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Off this is a separate utility room containing a washing machine, iron and ironing board.
The unique aspect of our apartment is the balcony leading off each of the bedrooms - this is unusual for an apartment so close to the town centre, supermarket, hotel and golf club. One balcony overlooks the swimming pool area, and this is not overlooked by other apartments at either side. The smaller balcony overlooks the wide, landscaped boulevard with a backdrop of the mountains on a clear day. Both bedrooms are equipped with remote control air conditioning for your comfort. Both bedrooms also have protective shutters for shade/security.
The bathroom is fully equipped with a full size bath, shower, bidet, WC, heated towel rail, and wash hand basin. Freshly laundered hand and shower towels are provided.
Parking is available directly outside the entrance to our apartment - this is a very unusual feature and is great for families with children, and for unloading suitcases, shopping etc.
This is the first year our apartment is being let, so it is in prime condition in comparison to a lot of other apartments on site.
Further details outdoors:
La Torre is the flagship resort of Polaris World - it is one of the few to be completely finished, to a very high standard, has a great community feel and has all the facilities you need for a peaceful or active break in the year round sunshine. Our apartment is in the centre of this whilst retaining a sense of calm and beauty.
Our main balcony is fitted with a large dining table with four comfortable chairs for those lazy morning breakfasts or candlelit dinners. There are also two sunloungers available, which can be brought down to the surrounding pools for your comfort.
There are two great pools to choose from, right in front of our apartment. These are suitable for all ages and levels of swimming ability, and are maintained very frequently by the pool staff. The pools are very safe as they are regularly supervised by security to ensure only residents are availing of the amenity. The pools are a perfect length for swimming laps, and both have a shallow and deep end. For the children, there is an infant's shallow pool set slightly away from the main pools. Surrounding the pools are spacious areas for sunloungers: beside the pool and, unusually for Spain, on the plentiful grass. The trees often provide great shade in the hot afternoon sun, a very peaceful place to sit and read a book. This is one of the most unique features of La Torre, the beautifully tended gardens, trees and grass are striking against the mediterranean climate.
Apart from these immediate facilities, La Torre caters for all ages with its bicycle hire, two tennis courts and the extensive, safe resort is perfect for walking, jogging and cycling.
The 18 hole Jack Nicklaus designed golf course is on the doorstep of our apartment, a mere two minute walk from the front door. A round of golf on this course is a world away from courses in Ireland and the UK; the weather and the scenery make it an experience not to be missed. Golf clubs, manual trolleys, electric trolleys and buggies are available to rent at the golf club. If a full round of golf proves too much on your holiday, why not keep your practice up on the natural driving range, putting green or take a few lessons from the resident pro (priced locally). Or, simply enjoy the environs of the course with a meal or beverage at the golf club restaurant's outdoor terrace.
The five star hotel located just two minutes away from the apartment has a luxurious spa for special treats whilst on your holiday, a gym and indoor swimming pool (payable locally), two beautiful restaurants and a lively bar. It is ideal for whiling away the time, and can provide a welcome break from the sun.
For watersports enthusiasts, you need go no further than a 20-25 minute drive to the nearby beaches of Los Alcazares, San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera, and many more, all of which surround the famous Mar Menor Lagoon. Watersports include sailing, windsufing, kitesurfing, kayaking, and many more. Both lessons and rental of equipment are available at the numerous sailing clubs.
This is a natural lagoon with health benefitting qualities which Spanish natives are extremely proud of, and who travel far distances just to spend a few hours bathing in the waters. The lagoon is very safe for children and older people, as it never falls below 18 degrees celcius, and is not overly affected by tidal waters, so remains at a safe depth most of the time. Speciality natural mud baths line the Mar Menor. People cover themselves in the mud, let the sun dry into this and wash off in the sea - a traditional ritual which apparently has worked wonders for arthritis, skin conditions and other such ailments. An experience not to be missed.

The Murcia region
The region of Murcia is known for it's temperate weather, with more than 300 sunny days a year, and average temperatures of 20 degrees celcius. It is situated in the South-east of Spain, alongside 250 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline including the famous Mar Menor, the worlds largest freshwater lake. The Mar Menor is known for it's therapeutic qualities due to the high salt content of the sea. Thousands visit the mud baths at Mota de la Calcetera each year.
The Mar Menor's calm waters are also perfect for activities such as sailing and windsurfing. The historic seaside towns of Los Alcazares and Lo Pagan are only fifteen minutes drive from the apartment. There are two routes to the beach, you can drive along the motorway or you can take the old route trough small towns and fruit and vegetable fields. We much prefer the old route, Murcia is still a very undeveloped area, and you get a real feel for the culture when you avoid the motorways and drive alongside fields with row after row of olive trees and orange groves.
There is something for everyone in Murcia. The city itself is a short drive away with many sites of interest including the Cathedral , built in the Baroque and Gothic styles, in the old quarter, along with plenty of shops bars and cafes.
And of course there is the Roman city of Cartegena, featuring the hilltop Concepcion Castle which was originally built by Hannibal, and survived in various guises through the years. Today it houses a fantastic museum, dedicated to its history. Right beside the castle, there is a Roman ampitheatre, which was only discovered in the mid 80s. The modern naval arsenal is only a short stroll away, as are the modernist buildings built by the top architects from Barcelona in the 19th century, that line the Calle Mayor.
The hill town of Lorca is full of medieval remains and palaces, and it's only a short drive away. The town of Cruz de Campo was said to be the resting place of the one true cross and is acknowledged by the Vatican as one of the world's five official holy cities.
A region regarded as the Garden of Europe, that supplies fruit and vegetables all over the continent, is going to have some nice restuarants and Murcia does not disappoint. There's a large variety of restaurants from fish and chip shops to Michelan stared restaurants. The following comes highly recommended!
La Encarnacian is a beautiful colonial style restaurant situated almost on the beach in Los Alcazares. This is a great place to people watch as the terrace juts onto the promenade which is very popular in the summer evenings.

If you want to eat, closer to home, there are fine restuarants on the resort itself.
La Encina offers a buffet for starters, the main is a choice of meat, fish and veg dishes and for dessert the buffet is all yours.

The Woodhouse Bar is located in the golf club and offers a wide selection of drinks from espressos to a pint of the local beer, Estrella Levante. A range of sandwiches, snacks and a full English breakfast for golfers who want to get an early start!

The La Torre Golf Resort / Polaris World, La Torre area
La Torre is a five star golf resort located between San Javier airport and Murcia city, both are within fifteen minutes drive to the resort. Within minutes walk from the apartment, you'll find the local supermarket, the town centre with ice cream parlour, pubs, restuarants, a conference centre and of course the golf club on the shore of the lake in the heart of the resort. The five star intercontinental hotel is right beside the town centre providing fine dining and a chilled out bar.
The eighteen hole golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and makes up just one of the courses on the Jack Nicklaus trail which encompasses five eighteen hole golf courses, of varying difficulties, throughout the region.

San Javier Airport, Murcia, is a mere 15-20 minute drive away from our apartment. It is a small airport and very easy to navigate. The bonus is that there are numerous low-cost airlines flying into San Javier Airport, including Ryanair, Iberia, Easyjet, Jet2, Monarch and Flybe. As always, fares can change regularly depending on flight time. In order to accommodate your flight times, and help you to take advantage of these low cost fares, we are flexible with arrival and departure times, only subject to the availability of our wonderful keyholders on site.
Alicante airport is another option, and is about an hour's drive away. The roads are great, and if you choose to take the coast road, it is a super way of experiencing the surrounding areas on the way down to Murcia. Many low-cost airlines also fly into this larger airport, with the addition of Aer Lingus.
For car hire, each of the two airports are well serviced by numerous car hire companies. The companies are stocked with a wide variety of great quality cars, and often at competitive prices. Of course, the earlier you book your car, the more chance you have of receiving the best quote. Most of the companies have the cars ready to hire at the airport, and for the ones that don't, they do provide a shuttle bus to their other location.
Car hire is not essential though. Taxis are readily available both from the airport and on site. Taxi fares are reasonable for the occasional trips you may wish to take to the nearby beaches, and the cities of Murcia and Cartagena, both of which are beautiful, historic, vibrant cities set against awe inspiring architecture and natural surrounds.
If you choose to have a relaxing holiday away from the steering wheel, La Torre has everything you may need: golf, tennis, spa treatments, gym and leisure club, bike hire, swimming pools, beautiful boulevards for promenading, restaurants, bars, and a large supermarket.
For anything you may wish that is not on the resort, it is certainly most likely to be found within a 40 minute drive of the resort. And for those who prefer cycling as opposed to cars, Murcia is renowned for its cycling trails - a cycle to the nearest beach will bring you through miles of orange, lemon and olive groves, and local Spanish towns and villages, some untouched by modern times, finishing up with a cold beer or hot coffee on the white sandy beach.

This is a bright and spacious apartment in an excellent location. We were very pleased with the standard and cleanliness of the accommodation. Efficient air conditioning system including the bedrooms (not ceiling fans which are in some of the other apartments in the resort). The apartment is only steps away from the swimming pool area which has a really peaceful atmosphere compared with some of the others on the resort. The 2 swimming pools are surprisingly surrounded by quite lush green lawned areas ideal for relaxing on if you don't want to be poolside. The town centre is only a few minutes walk away, ideal when you don't want to get in a car at night. Even though it is within close proximity of the town it is far enough away so that no noise can be heard from the apartment at night. The booking procedure is swift and efficient with good communication by the owners. Would highly recommend this apartment. |
