The Limousin / Auvergne / Creuse region
Limousin lies roughly in the centre of France and has preserved much of its natural beauty, it is renowned for its great feudal fortresses, renaissance chateaux, medieval towns and villages.
Limoge is famous for its China and Pocelain, and is well worth a visit.
The village of Oradour-sur-Glane where the whole population were massacred by the Germans in June 1944 has been saved as a remembrance, and a new village built 2kms south. Well worth a visit, it is very moving. Several large lakes are within an hours drive, and provide Canoeing,sailing,fishing,water-skiing etc.
La Souterraine / St Priest la Feuille area
La Souterraine is a lively market town, and known as a pilgrims halt. Some parts of the medieval ramparts such as the massive portal of Saint-Jean still stand. The streets are lined with charming old houses, and the Church and the crypt should not be missed. Cobbled streets, and great cafes. At Swiss Ocean in La Souterraine there is a great activities area for outdoor swimming in the Lake, excellent Tennis courts, a sandy beach, and areas for picnics, plus a restaurant (10 minutes from the accommodation) Markets are held every Thursday and Saturday.
St Priest la Feuille only 5 minutes away has a local tabac for fresh bread, and has a excellent restaurant attached.

Property Stayed in: Farmhouse
Comments:
A fantastic family holiday! The setting is quite outstanding. The children thought they had entered the land of Enid Blyton. Exploring hedgehog Island, cray fishing (all named and put back safely!) Floating along the river on makeshift rafts. They are desperate to return. The adults enjoyed the tranquility, the beautiful local walks and the most amazing night sky we have ever seen. We were fortunate on a walk to spot a family of otters making their way to the river. The accommodation was comfortable and homely and the kitchen well equipped to allow the cook with us to muster up some wonderful meals! A real find. We hope to return again soon.
