The Poitou-Charentes region
Famous towns of La Rochelle and Saintes nearby. Miles of sandy beaches. Island of Oleron (Fort Boyard) a couple of miles. This area is renowned for its wonderful climate with summer sunshine comparable to the Mediterranean coast - with half the drive! Winters are mild and bright and the Chateau makes a lovely winter escape within very easy reach. Typically, the area boasts 2 600 hours of sunshine a year, while the rest of France has an average of 1 700 hours of sunshine per year.
This is rural France where life goes on a slow and easy pace. You will find no high-rises here, but can enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the Cote Sauvage pine forests, islands and miles of beach all the while being within easy access of lively seaside resorts and big shopping centres.
Of importance to many is the space and the uncomplicated way of life, and the Chateau owner, who is a published writer and artist, particularly enjoys the overall atmosphere of this part of the world. Visit turquoisemoon.co.uk
Famous zoo at La Palmyre, golf, markets, vineyards, chateaux ... and lots more. La Rochelle is probably the most famous town in this area, along with Fort Boyard where the TV games are held. The Roman town of Saintes is well worth a visit (stunning amphitheatre among other things) and the old military town of Rochefort with its famous fortifications is nearby. Royan is a relatively new town, having been blitzed during World War II, but nonetheless boasts miles of sandy beach and lots of restaurants. Visit the markets, chateaux, picturesque rivers, taste the local wines and eat at a wealth of seafood restaurants. Sporting opportunities are also abundant with cycling, golf, diving and other water sports. Swimming is ideal for young children as the coast is protected by the island; alternatively there are several surfing beaches within a short drive of the properties. Out of peak season we do organized cycling and/or wine-tasting parties. There is an excellent zoo at La Palmyre and the aquarium at La Rochelle is wonderful.

"Huge property with nice pool in great location"
Property was great for our extended family of four couples and two small children. Location is convenient to all sorts of attractions. There are five huge double bedrooms and lots of other beds in various areas, some of which are off other bedrooms.
Ample cutlery, crockery etc and washing machine, dryer and dishwasher all very welcome. On site staff are very helpful but speak no English (but we are in France so can't complain about that!!)
Overall very happy except for two quibbles. The pool area was lovely but the water was not solar heated, as advertised. In September this meant the water was too chilly for our two toddlers. The other thing to bear in mind is that if you pay for towels and sheets, you don't get a change after the first week unless you pay for another set. Overall though we were able to have an enjoyable holiday in this property.
Many thanks for your nice comments. Glad it was right for you.

"Wonderful country chateau with pool"
I stayed with my extended family and our children in this gorgeous chateau. Fully equipped, plenty of room for the kids to run around and a large pool with decking and sunloungers. Ideal for us and not far from all the beaches and main towns, although the local village has a shop and a baker within walking distance. This was a great place for our holiday and we will certainly go again.
It was nice to meet you while you were here, albeit so briefly. I'm so glad you liked the property and that the children had such a good time. Safety is always out main concern and I know from experience how an unsafe place can ruin a holiday - so good, glad all went well and we look forward to seeing you again.
