Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
Late 18th century former farmhouse in a small village surrounded by tranquil countryside.
Recently renovated to provide convenient, modern accommodation with a large swimming pool, beautiful open views and grounds of over one and a half acres.
For a peaceful, get-away-from-it-all holiday, our location is ideal.
From the rear of the property there are totally open views to a ridge of hills a few kilometers away and for those who like to explore a bit, the tranquil lanes around the village have many signposted walking/cycling routes.
For the less energetic, lazing about the pool or just strolling within our own grounds may be preferred.
Within the village itself there are no facilities except the Mairie with telephones and a post box but cheese, meat and grocery vans come once a week.
Within just five minutes drive, there are two larger villages with bars, bread shops, butchers, post offices and even take-away pizza and within ten minutes the medieval market town of Surgeres has many excellent bars, restaurants, supermarkets and shops of all kinds as well as a thrice weekly indoor and outdoor market.
Logis B, which was originally a stables and small barn attached to the farmhouse, is a single storey building providing cozy accommodation of more than 80 sq mtr. - ideal for small families or couples and suitable for the elderly or infirmed..
There is an open plan lounge with large satellite TV and a kitchen-diner area with brand-new fitted kitchen, two good-sized bedrooms and a shower room with access suiitable for wheelchairs.
Outside there are extensive patio areas with raised and flat flower beds, access to the swimming pool and a communal area of about an acre - mostly laid to grass this is excellent for picnics, children's play or just strolling about and enjoying the view and the sunshine.

We live here ourselves and so are always on hand to give advice and assistance (don't hesitate to ask).
We have been here for over 4 years now (initially staying in gites ourselves) and so we can be of help with the language and all sorts of other things - especially for those who are looking to move here themselves.
The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
The region inland of La Rochelle within Charente-Maritime benefits from a micro-climate which results in the area receiving more sunshine hours than any other part of France except the Mediterranien coast. We therefore benefit from long, dry summers which can stretch all the way from April to October.
The area is typified by it's gently rolling farmland, the main crops being sunflowers, grapes and maize and for nature lovers, the variety and profusion of fauna and flora here is tremendous!
The local specialities are oysters, muscles, wine, brandy and Pineau-Charente - a must-try apperetif made from wine and brandy.
Within Charente Maritime, there are many historic towns including the port of La-Rochelle with it's famous harbour, the naval town of Rochefort with it's dockyards and cordery, Saintes with it's Roman ruins, St Jean D'Angely with its medieval quarter and ancient monastry and Cognac - the centre of brandy making.
Marais-Poitevin (the "Green Venice") is a beautiful area in the north of Charente-Maritime criss-crossed by small rivers and canals with numerous water-side restaurants and gondolas for hire!
A little further afield at Poitiers, there is the theme park Futuroscope - second only in popularity to Disneyland Paris.
We have several (mostly brand new) bikes available - three children's bikes in various sizes suitable for toddlers to teens and four for adults enabling you to take full advantage of the wonderfully quiet local lanes.
Within our own grounds small children can ride the bikes and you can play petanque (boules) we have sets of plastic boules for the kids to play on the grass and proper metal ones for adults - there is a 'professional' strip at the Mairie in the village which is free and seldom occupied. We can also provide cricket, badminton, tennis and football equipment and a frisbee.
There are many excellent beaches, bars, restaurants (and even casinos) to the south of La Rochelle at Chatelaillon-Plage and Fouras and also on the Islands - Isle de Re (which also has two beautiful ports with excellent water-side restaurants) and Isle D'Oleron. Both of these islands are accessible via road bridges.
Various watersports are available at the coast and surfing is popular on the western beaches of Isle D'Oleron.
Near the Isle D'Oleron is Fort Boyard - a Napoleonic fort made famous by the TV series.
For the kids, there is an aquarium at La Rochelle, a zoo in the heart of the forest at Chize and another zoo at Royan.
For golfers, there are several excellent courses at Saintes, Niort, and Cognac.
For anglers, trout, roach, chub and large carp and catfish can be caught in the rivers Charente and Boutonne and there is a day-ticket still-water within a couple of kilometers (advice and equipment can be provided).
