The Brittany / Morbihan region
Brittany and the Morbihan region in particular, have long been firm favourites with tourists the world over. It is not hard to see why being not only an area of outstanding natural beauty but also an area of astounding natural diversity. From the densely forested centre of Brittany, to the beautiful coast line and islands of the Gulf of Morbihan, from the salt marsh areas of the Brière region to the vast sandy beaches at Pénestin and La Baule you will not be short of things to see and do. Man made points of interest abound also. The local area accounts for five of Brittany’s ‘Petites Cités de Caractère’ - a classification awarded to towns which best represent the cultural and traditional heritage of the region. Brittany’s ‘capital city’ Rennes and southern Brittany’s largest tourist town Vannes are also within close proximity.
La Roche Bernard area
The Barn is located 10 minutes north of character village/port La Roche-Bernard in South Brittany.
Fishing The Vilaine River which runs next to Théhillac was host to the 2006 world fishing championships.
Golf The nearest golf course is the superb Golfe de la Bretesche in Missillac set within the grounds of a chateau and just ten minutes drive from Théhillac.
Kids A popular excursion for kids is the Branféré Animal and Botanical Park set within the grounds of a chateau at Le Guerno. Another good day out for the kids is the Parc de Préhistoire pre-historic park at Malansac.
Birdwatching The nearby Brière region is France’s second largest marshland area and a birdwatchers paradise.
Boat Trips Vedettes Jaunes boat trips depart from Redon and La Roche Bernard and take in the sights of the Vilaine Estuary down to the barrage d’Arzal.
Water Sports Just a few minutes drive outside of Théhillac is the Etang Aumée lake which is a pleasant stretch of water surrounded by woods with a man-made beach for swimming, wind surfing and other water sports.
Gastronomy The local area boasts literally hundreds of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Regional specialities being galettes (savoury pancakes) accompanied by a bowl of cider, andouillette (tripe sausage) for the brave, and of course, supremely fresh seafood caught during the day by local fisherman. Nearby La Roche Bernard has an excellent culinary heritage and has a number of good quality restaurants dotted around the old town and the port below.
