The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region
The Alps are incredible beautiful in both Winter and Summer. In winter, enjoy the snowy peaks, the 425km of ski runs and the gluvine stops! In summer, the area is transformed into alpine meadows with flowers and cows with bells. The walking and mountain biking is quite superb, with very well laid out walking paths, on which you feel very safe.
Les Coches is right at the centre of the huge Paradiski area (Les Arcs and La Plagne) with 425 km of alpine slopes, 175 ski lifts and skiing up to 3250m on the glacier. The ski area is open from early December to the end of April. In 2004, the major ski areas of Les Arcs and La Plagne were linked by the Vanoise Express, a modern cable car on 2 floors carrying 400 people, creating a new combined area called 'Paradiski', linking the whole network in just 4 minutes. It is now one of the largest ski areas in the world and there is an extensive range of skiing and snowboarding for all abilities!
Snowboarders will enjoy the snow-park at Arc 1800, the floodlit half-pipe at Arc 2000, as well as the snow-park at La Plagne. In addition, Val d'Isere/Tignes is 50 min away, the 3 Valleys are 45 min and St Foy (more off piste) is within 30 mins.
In the summer, we would advise visiting the beautiful town of Annecy, 1 hour away, and driving over the Petit St Bernard pass into Italy, also 1 hour away - as well as exploring the numerous small mountain villages in the valley.
La Plagne / Les Coches area
Set at 1450m altitude, Les Coches is a small quiet mountain village with traditional stone and wood architecture, surrounded by pine forests. It is conveniently situated at the centre of Paradiski, the world's 2nd largest ski area, allowing skiers to quickly and easily access all 425km of runs.
Apres ski includes kids clubs, a winter / summer ice rink, cinema, bars and restaurants. Ski school operates within the village and there is a children's club which caters for babies up to teenagers.
Les Coches is perfectly placed for summer holidays, when the weather is warm and the flowers burst into bloom. It is located on the edge of the Vanoise National Park and provides access to numerous activities, including hiking, mountain-biking, horse riding, swimming, fishing, canoeing and white-water rafting. The options for hiking within 30 mins of Les Coches are endless, with possibilities in every direction. There is an outdoor swimming pool 3km away in the pretty traditional village of Montchavin and an 18-hole golf course in Arc 1800. Further afield, about an hour away and over the Petit St Bernard pass, lies Italy and the Italian Alps.
There is a pretty and atmospheric village square in the centre of the village, only 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The new 'Chalets De Wengen' are just 150 metres further down the hill, again 5 minutes walk away.
Just 3km down the road lies Montchavin, a traditional alpine village, offering a mixture of restaurants and apartments, set amidst local houses and hay barns. It is easy to reach Montchavin, either on skis, in the telecabine (summer and winter) or via the ski bus. Montchavin makes a lovely lunch stop in the middle of a day's skiing. Down in the valley, the nearest town is Bourg St Maurice, 17km away, offering a greater selection of shops and supermarkets.
There is plenty for non-skiers to enjoy in the winter. There are restaurants and bars, as well as a cinema (in Montchavin), an ice-rink and games room. For the more energetic there is snow-shoeing, ski-mountaineering, ice-climbing, an Olympic bobsleigh (at La Plagne) and winter hiking.
How to get there
Les Coches lies on the border between the two fantastic ski areas of Les Arc and La Plagne.
By car, it is 930km from Calais, taking 9 hours.
The following airports are within easy reach: Chambery (1hr), Grenoble (2hr), Lyon (2hr), Geneva (2.5hr). The easiest way to get to Les Coches is to fly and then hire a car.
The nearest railway station is at Landry, only 10 km away, where both the Eurostar and the Snowtrain stop. It is very easy from there to get a taxi or a bus into the resort, and can be arranged by my agent in Les Coches. The Eurostar goes direct to Landry from Waterloo. The Snowtrain: Blue Snow train, departs from Folkstone on a Friday evening on a coach which takes you through the Channel Tunnel. On the other side you join the overnight train that takes you all the way to Landry. Or there’s the White Snow Train which is the Eurostar from Waterloo to Paris, where you pick up the Snow Train. The return is late Saturday evening.

Guestbook
'The studio room was clean, well equipped and just a few hundred metres from the lift/shops, so it was also in a perfect location. We had lockers at the end of the corridor, and a fantastic view from the room. I would most definitely recommend this accommodation to friends/family, and look forward to returning next year.' P Bates, Feb 08 (UK)
'Every thing was Great!!! The surroundings were really breath taking, the family & I really had a life time experience. The apartment was really comfortable. The driving on the right side was a bit of a challenge, & getting in & out of Geneva air port, but other than that everything was excellent!!! My little one wants to know, when can we go again...! (I Singh, July 2008, South Africa)
