Up the winding mountain road to the church square and the top of the village of Montorlin, and a beautiful old farmhouse owned by Liza and Andy.

Alastair Sawday's Guides have featured this lovely place in The Guardian as one of 10 chalets to treat yourself to this winter.

The stunning top floor features an open plan living and dining area, with amazing views up and down the Tarentaise valley across to the distant peaks of Mont Blanc. Balconies open off 2 sides of the house from picture windows. The airy living room has huge, squashy sofas, a log fire and an extensive library. Wifi, playstation, DVDs and CDs provide the modern entertainment.

Mountains, inc. is owner run, and dedicated to good service. Guests will be fed yummy breakfasts and afternoon teas daily, with excellent three course meals and unlimited wine 6 days a week. Tea time might include hot chocolates and mulled wine. Dinner time drinks include a house champagne cocktail, a local kir, the grolla, and genepi; and pre-dinner nibbles of some of the local specialities.

Children are always welcome, with early evening suppers and all the accroutrements of childhood from cots and high chairs to prams, sleds and even toys. And if you want to bring all three generations there is a discount for over 65s too.

Liza will pre-purchase your lift passes, arrange any ski lessons, and organise your ski hire for in chalet delivery and fitting. When you arrive, you have absolutely no queuing to do and we get you straight on to the slopes.

Our private minibus takes you the 3 minutes from the chalet door to the telecabine every morning - you decide what time! Call us from the slopes or a bar for a pick up and we'll be there to meet you.

We're open year round. In winter we offer catered ski holidays; in summer, B&B or catered.

On the first floor one of the twin rooms has the traditional built in wooden curtained beds, which children (and adults!) adore.

The Rhone/French Alps region

Situated at 1150 metres on one side of the Tarentaise Valley, we're in a great spot for winter and summer alike.

We are right at the heart of Paradiski with over 400kms of pistes. Paradiski includes La Plagne and Les Arcs: we're on the La Plagne side, one chair lift away from the 200 person cable car the Vanoise Express which links up to Les Arcs.

There is skiing for all abilities on a great range of slopes: pretty tree-lined windy runs, wide open pistes, powder fields, snow parks, two glaciers, and slopes facing north, south east and west.

In summer there are miles of paths and trails to explore; the GR5 walking route goes right past the house and the entrance to the Vanoise National Park is on the doorstep. A cycle piste runs along the river, and challenging road routes lead into the mountains and over the cols. Mountain bike trails are aided in July and August by the lifts that take you and your bike up high.

The Savoie is at the heart of the Alps. Part of France, we also border Italy and until 1860 the Savoie was its own independent principality. The region is remote and beautiful, with high mountains and sparkling lakes, rivers and castles and villages.

La Plagne

We are in the heart of the Paradiski skiing domain: 400km of pistes, 2 equipped glaciers, and runs to suit all abilities. Our side of the valley, La Plagne, has over 224km of pistes and 10 resort villages: we are located at Montchavin.

Montchavin was originally a farming village and has charming cobbled streets, old stone buildings, and apple orchards. One chair lift takes you to the Vanoise Express cable car crossing the valley to Les Arcs: so guests can ski each side of the mountain easily. It's a wonderfully friendly place with some great restaurants and bars. Neighbouring Les Coches has an ice-skating rink

We look after beginners especially carefully: arranging lessons, with special ski pass deal, and ski hire, and we take you to your lessons, where you'll learn on green slopes amongst the trees.

Intermediates can enjoy the miles of blue and red runs, from tree lined tracks to sunny wide open spaces.

Experienced skiers can try the 2km black descent, or be guided off-piste down the Bellecote Glacier powder fields.

Plagne 1800 is home to the Olympic bobsleigh run: this is open to visitors for a memorable evening's fun.

"Just about perfect: a splendid week"

Its never easy being the organiser of a group of demanding, eccentric, loud-mouthed thirty-somethings. You worry about everything: will it snow (can't control it), will the journey be boring (jus… More

So happy you all enjoyed yourselves! Yes, 'Heartbreaker' is in there somewhere - you'll have to find it on your next visit, soon, we hope.

"Great Chalet, lovely hosts"

We stayed here as an extended family group, there were 11 of us including an 8month old baby and 3 non-skiers. Despite having such a mixed group with mixed requirements for the week Liza, Andy, Jamie & Kelsey went out of their way to accommodate us and made us feel very at home indeed despite having to cope with a number of mishaps beyond their control. Food was excellent and they catered perfectly to the parties requirements
Lifts/pickups were always on time and that was literally at any time of the day
Village is traditional and rural and very quiet, perfect for us
Chalet layout is a beautiful, unique and quirky and all of the rooms have plenty of character, they were very comfortable and clean and the photos really don't do this place justice. The upstairs loft/living/dining space with balcony is particularly lovely.

We take our business very much to heart; and it is heartwarming to get such lovely reviews! Thank you.

"Perfect chalet holiday - winter and summer!"

We've been before for a ski-ing holiday, but an August summer visit is hard to beat. Breathtaking views at breakfast set you up for the day and a delicious home cooked 3 course meal is a perfect way to round it off!
Liza & Andy (and their daughter Camille!) are lovely hosts, they went out of their way to make sure we had all the information to hand to create the stay we wanted and to make the most of the mountains and then allowed us to relax of an evening with a glass of wine!
Super chalet - charming bedrooms, great communal area with comfy sofas and oh - so many books to dip into!

Thank you so much for such positive feedback. We greatly enjoyed your week with us too and look forward to welcoming you back, winter or summer!

"Great location, lots to do, nice chalet but problems with facilties"

La Portette has been a farmhouse since the 17th century if I remember correctly what Lisa told us and it has been converted into a large chalet with a superb lounge dining area with great views of the… More

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We truly value the opinions of our guests and are very sorry that you had a less than satisfactory stay.

We are aware that you experienced problems with the house during your week's self catering let. Thank you for your patience with us during your stay as we worked to sort them out! And thank you also for the many positive things you have said in your review.

The problem with the water heating was fixed on the same day it was reported: an electrician was called out who quickly identified and resolved the issue. This was the same issue that had caused the electricity to trip the preceeding day. This must have been very inconvenient and we apologise unreservedly.

The oven proved a more stubborn issue as the part required took over a week to arrive, for which again we sincerely apologise.

I am extremely sorry that these problems affected your stay; holiday time is very precious and we deeply regret that yours was in any way spoiled. I have since been in touch with you directly to agree a satisfactory outcome. (Your original email was not ignored, but was must have been lost during a short period when our host server was down at the end of August).

Personal service is our speciality and we hope that our guests, old and new, will understand that sometimes circumstances conspire. We will always do our best to resolve all problems raised quickly and effectively - and also, wherever possible, ensure no problems arise!
