About this location
The Rhône-Alpes region
The Stunning Haute Savoie region of France covers much of the French Alps, encompassing over 100 ski resorts. With its proximity to Geneva, a major international airport with regular flights to the UK. The area is popular throughout the year with winter and summer sports and activities.
The village of La Grande Terche is a small but charming Alpine village, with a handful of bars and restaurants catering to most tastes of cuisine and atmosphere. It is close to the village of St. Jean d'Aulps, which has 3 additional restaurants and bars as well as bakers, butchers, grocery and other stores.
For those seeking a faster paced night out, the nearby town of Morzine is a short distance away with a large number of bars & restaurants, as well as a number of nightclubs. There are countless restaurants located on beautiful lakes, or within charming villages nearby.
This area of the French Alps offers many summer activities, including hiking, climbing, mountain biking, road biking, swimming, relaxing on the beach (at one of the many lake-side beaches), paragliding, white water rafting, pony trekking, golf, - as well as 'Fantasticable' (a cable strung between two mountain tops), and countless other sports and hill-focused activities. The ski lift network opens for much of the summer.
Being only 30 minutes from Lake Geneva (Thonon, Evian), guests can split their time between the mountains and the beaches, bars and restaurant of the Lake Geneva. The medieval town of Yvoire is well worth a day trip.

"Comfortable, Spacious and Quiet"
We were really impressed with Chalet Pantoufle, in particular how cosy and spacious it was – the photos on the website don't do it justice! We were a group of mixed ages and the open plan feel of the living space really made it very sociable. The kitchen is large, modern and well equipped, and coupled with the living space really made it feel homely. When the kids were in bed we often enjoyed a quiet hot tub under the stars in the secluded and totally silent garden.
It is a short walk from the main lift in La Grande Terche which is a fantastic small resort that was so undiscovered we were still making our own tracks several days after it had snowed. The Circuit Roc D'Enfer was breath-taking and truly exceeded our expectations. For large parts of it we didn't see any other skiers! The wider Portes du Soleil is so vast and varied we hadn't scratched the available skiing after our week and fully intend to return next year. Overall great value for money and wish we'd have discovered it sooner!

The chalet had everything we needed for our first ski holiday, and offered a warm & cosy atmosphere to return to from the mountains. It was also really well located to access the ski lift, and a free bus that stopped every 15mins near the chalet to take the family the short 3min trip to the ski lift, which saved trying to find parking at the top if we had a late start. The ski school was excellent for both adults and children, and the local shops well stocked for food. A small and family friendly ski village, perfect for beginers/intermediate. Lift passes were much cheaper than other resorts, as was the ski equipment hire. All in all it was perfect, and we can't think of anything that could have been better.

"A hidden gem"
We stayed at Chalet Pantouffle with a group of friends. We picked it as it was a lot cheaper than staying in Morzine or Les Gets, fully expecting to use it as a base, and go to the bigger resorts for nights out. However, the chalet turned out to be so comfortable and well equipped that we stayed in and cooked most nights, taking advantage of the log burner and hot tub! There is a big supermarket about 5mins drive away, and a small convenience store up at the ski station (a short, pleasant walk up a footpath, past a waterfall) which sells fresh bread/croissants etc and you can even reserve them in advance if you are not an early bird.
The chalet itself was much more spacious than we expected and the bedrooms are all quite large. It's not decorated in the typical mountain style, more like a smart home from home. The living area is all open plan and huge. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and the heated boot room was very welcome.
We loved skiing just up the road at La Grande Terche, such a quiet little gem of a ski station, and we saw that they were adding new runs and lifts, so we are going back to check it out!

"Absolutely fantastic, beautiful Chalet in beautiful scenery"
My family and I (four children aged 7, 6, 3 and 1) found the Chalet to very spacious with everything that you would need, really a home from home. Hot tub was fantastic, kitchen had everything you would need.
Supermarket nearby on way to Morzine.
Loads to do in Morzine, about 10 min drive, for the kids, swimming, skate park, the luge and of course the cable cars if the kids are game. Top tip is to get a 1 euro multitasks, superb value for money.
Loads of walks, too many to mention.
Lake Geneva a short drive away, about 30 min.
Excellent climbing on the "Elephants Head" with free pitches if you have your own gear, harnesses can be hired at Intersport in Morzine.
Mountain biking absolutely insane if that's your bag, expensive to hire but well worth the adrenaline rush.
Good deal at bar Nationale in the village, St. Jean d' Alps on a Tuesday evening, buy one get one free on the pizza/nachos.
Excellent holiday with loads to do with a really friendly community "feel" in St.Jean.
Can't wait until we return in the Season& next summer......

"The plushest ski chalet I've stayed in - well located for multiple resorts"
