The Midi-Pyrenees / Lot region

Nearby is a beautiful 14th century château and church. Prayssac at 5km is our nearest town with supermarkets and restaurants etc. Catus’ leisure lake and beach (Lac Vert) is 15km away, where you can swim, fish, play tennis, volleyball & hire pedalos etc. Other activities in the area include rambling, golf, mountain biking and horse riding etc.
The medieval town of Puy l'Eveque and sites such as Rocamadour and the caves at Gouffre de Padirac are also in the Lot.The area has many vineyards, forming the heart of the Cahors AOC wine region.Cahors at 25km, renowned for its 14th-century Pont Valentre bridge and for it’s culinary heritage, was recently featured on Jamie Oliver’s cookery programme on Channel 4.Because of this heritage, there are great opportunities to visit superb local restaurants and to taste wine at local vineyards
The La Masse area
La Grange à la Fontaine is situated in the very picturesque hamlet of La Masse. We have an interesting 12th Century Church and Saracen Chimney. The church features the most unusual frescoes of the Seven Deadly Sins. La Masse is part of the commune of Les Junies (where you can find a beautiful 14th century château and church) . Also within the valley in which La Masse sits, there was an important neolithic settlement (there is now a marked walk called Circuit des Dolmens).
We are also situated near the historic town of Cahors, with it's world-famous and beautiful fortified bridge, the 14th-century 'Pont Valentre,' which spans the river Lot and is indeed the symbol of Cahors. It is the only fortified bridge in the world with three towers and is mentioned in Dante’s “Inferno”. There is also an internationally famous annual Blues festival.
We recommend exploring the River Lot from the water. There are many river boat trips and boats for hire, including canoeing and kayaking. Other popular sporting activities in the are are rambling, golf, mountain biking and horse riding. Prayssac is our nearest town, (5km) which has a twice weekly market and also offers access to supermarkets, a Post Office and banks amongst a number of other shops. La Masse is also close to the medieval town of Puy l'Eveque on the river Lot. We are also very close to world famous sites such as Rocamadour and the caves at Gouffre de Padirac. Catus is about 1/4 hr from here with it's leisure lake and- the 'Lac Vert' leisure complex.
As well as swimming and fishing in the lake, there are pedalos and canoes for hire. It also has a lakeside café bar and two restaurants with views overlooking the water. Free activities at the lake include two floodlit tennis courts, volleyball and table tennis. There are also swings and slides for young children.

This property was excellent and just as the details describe. It was well maintained and very private with large grounds and plenty of space. The owners (Garry and Gaynor) were always on hand if required but never intrusive. Ample supply of fruit from the apple and plum trees. Lots of things to do in the area or relax by the pool. Rocamadour and the cave at Padirac well worth a visit as well as exploring the medieval villages in the area. La Venus restaurant in Prayssac very good. Would definately recommend this place and hope to return at some time." |

This is a really lovely property. Newly converted and in great condition. Highly recommended. Lovely in the summer but would also be great for a winter break with a big woodburning stove in the corner of the living room. Area around the property has loads of things to do. Easy access to Cahor and the motorway system.
