The Costa Calida/Murcia region
Costa Calida or " Warm Coast" stretches along the largest lagoon in europe. (The Mar Menor) around to the La Manga strip. The mud baths and spas around the Mar Menor are believed to have great healing properties for aliments such as rheumatism and arthritis. The World Health Organization recently declared the beautiful Capital City of Murcia the cleanest area in Spain. It has a wealth of fine buildings including its magnificent Cathedral, a beautiful Monastery, gardens and parks. You can wander through the pedestrianised areas to beautiful squares alive with outdoor cafes. Murcia is an extremely historical, friendly city that prides itself in maintaining its traditions. The fabulous fiestas, fantastic food, beautiful scenery, glorious soft sand beaches and the friendliest of people make this an exceptional region of Spain. The ancient city of Cartagena is a short distance from Mar de Cristal either by car or train, and was founded by the Carthaginians in the year 227BC. It has always been a major port due to its natural harbour and position on the Mediterranean coast. And has played an important role in the history of the region and Spain itself. The city is surrounded by five hills which made the city easy to defend. Many of the forts, castles and guns built for this purpose can still be seen today.
La Manga Del Mar Menor / Mar De Cristal area
Mar de Cristal has always been known for its crystal clear waters and is perfectly situated to take advantage of the towns of El Algar and Los Belones and the harbour town of Cartagena. The development is just a short distance from the popular La Manga area where you can enjoy the top class La Manga Golf Club Resort with its lively international atmosphere and many amenities such as casinos, shops, restaurants and of course the three championship golf courses. Mar de Cristal has excellent safe beaches, a tiled promenade and a marina. The Mar Menor is indeed crystal clear and is a mecca for all kinds of watersports, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba or just swimming.
Golf is never far away here with the World famous La Manga Club being just a 5 minute drive, the 3 courses of Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas 30 mintues North. There are several protected areas within a short drive, Calblanque and Salinas bird sanctuary being 5 mintues away and the Sierra de Carrascoy regional park just 25 mintues. The La Manga Strip is a short drive and has a host of restaurants and bars and the nearby fishing village of Cabo de Palos boasts some of the best fish restaurants in the area.
How to get there
Low cost airlines, Easy Jet and Ryanair fly to San Javier Murcia, and Alicante Airport's Aproxamatly 22 Miles from San Javier and only takes about 20 minites as it's all motorway. Cheap car hire from Carjet.com with easy collection from arival's hall. Airport transfers can be arranged if required.
