About the home

There are two sandy beaches just a couple of minutes away , the beach on the Mar Menor side being suitable for smaller children with a warmer temperature and gently shelving shores and on the other side of the road the beach on the Meditteranean for the body boarders and wave lovers !
There are two pools in the peaceful landscaped gardens , a large freeform pool and a smaller shallow one for children . In the local area there are many shops , and a wide selection of restaurants overlooking the marina and the Mar Menor .Outside the local area there are many things to enjoy and do from golf , horse riding , sailing and the latest sport kite-surfing ,which has just had the world championship tournament hosted on the Mar Menor .

The house is large and spacious and is comfortable and tastefully decorated . The kitchen and all bathrooms have very recently been refurbished so are modern and well equipped . The house also has extra children's games and books for the holidaymakers use and there is satellite television with all sports, entertainment and movie channels . The downstairs and all three bedrooms are fully air conditioned which has heating aswell. There is a downstairs games room with a pool table and two sofas with coffee tables for relaxation and entertainment.

There are two enclosed gardens with the property with lockable gates for security and providing the freedom of youngsters to wander around without the worry.and a large terrace from which you can safely supervise the children in the pool and surrounding gardens . There are sunbeds available and a large table and chairs for al fresco dining . There is a large spanish style BBQ in the rear garden which catches the sun in the evenings. A washing line is provided on the rear patio for drying clothes.

The Costa Calida region

La Manga is situated approximately 80 miles South of Alicante on the Costa Calida and is famous for the La Manga Strip . This unique peninsular divides the Mediterranean Sea from the natural lagoon known as The Mar Menor .
The Mar Menor is the largest natural lagoon in Europe and is very shallow . Due to this the sea is calmer and stays at an average temperature of 18 C throughout the year . The climate is very good and the temperature is frequently above 90 C in the summer months .
The strip consists of numerous hotels , bars , cafes , restaurants and beaches along both coastlines , there are two harbours and many sailing schools .
Inland from the strip is the world renowned La Manga Golf Complex which has recently been on the television show Superstars and is home to a 5 star hotel , casino , bars and restaurants alongside three championship golf courses . It also boasts a top Football Coaching Academy and is used for training purposes by many of the worlds best Football teams , including the England squad .
The two nearest large towns are Murcia , the area capital , and Cartagena a beautiful coastal city with fabulous shopping , Roman Ruins and many beautiful old buildings over the Port of Cartagena . The Port has an interesting boat trip that gives you a history of the local culture .

The La Manga Del Mar Menor / Tomas Maestre Marina area

Many of the local beaches on the Mar Menor coast are well known for the therapeutic clay which can be found by wading out in the water , this is full of minerals and salts and the local folk cover their skin with it and bake in the sun . This is said to be good for skin complaints , rheumatism and arthritis among other things . There are boat and ferry trips available from our local marina including to the town of Santiago de las Ribiera a lovely place with water front cafes and a local market on a Thursday or it is possible to charter or hire your own boat from there .
There are many different nationalities here and the cuisine reflects this with English , French , Mexican , Asian and Spanish tapas bars and restaurants all within walking distance . Our particular favourite is the Mexican restaurant called Cantina Chihauhau . The food is excellent and it is lovely to sit out on a warm evening and watch the sun go down over the mountains across the water .
There has just been a world championship held locally in kite surfing and this is due to be a regular event . Also during May there is a flying display held above the Mar Menor during which the British Red Arrows and their counterparts from all the Air Forces from across Europe do daring and fabulous display routines ! This is brilliant entertainment as you sit on the beach or outside a local bar or cafe .

The nearest airport is San Javier / Murcia , but Alicante is also is not to far away as an alternative airport.
Car rental is available from many rental companies with the car available to be picked up at the airport.
Taxis run from the airport and are readily available at a reasonable cost.
Airport transfers can be arranged if required.
Ryanair, Jet 2, Easyjet, Monarch, Flybe and several more airlines all run daily to either Murcia or Alicante Airports.
