The Costa Tropical/Granada region
Almunecar, a bustling very Spanish town, with its daily market for fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables, many shops, small cobbled streets and extensive beaches and restaurants is just a 5 minute drive to the east.
Nerja, with its famous Balcon de Europa, and caves, wealth of restaurants and bars, and 7 beaches is 15 minutes drive away to the west. Originally a fishing village, Nerja has kept its original Spanish charm, with twisting streets and white buildings.
Just 30 minutes drive away, you can experience the real Spain in the village of Frigiliana. The village has been awarded the title of the most beautiful and best maintained Andalusian village several times. Whitewashed houses line cobbled streets which gently carve their way through the picturesque village up to the castle ruins.
In the scenic area around Frigiliana there are an abundance of olive groves, almond orchards, lemon and orange trees.
Granada, A little over one hours drive away to the east, is a city of culture housing the magical Palace of Alhambra, a wealth of shops, and many fine tapas bars. For spring and winter visitors (1/12 to 30/4), who want to experience the beach and the snow in the same day , the ski resort of Sierra Nevada is just 30 minutes from Granada. When fully open, there are 94 km. of pisted runs, including a snowboard park!
La Herradura / Punta de la Mona area
Punta de la Mona is a beautiful green headland nestling between the stunning bay of La Herradura (the horse shoe), and the tranquil beauty of Marina del Este.
The traditional white fishing village of La Herradura retains its unique charm and is still a relatively undiscovered gem along the coast. Throughout the length of the bay, are a selection of local "chiringuitos" (beach restaurants) and shops.
Marina del Este is a must for a drink or a seafood lunch, in one of the many cafes overlooking the marina, and for a walk up the natural “rock” which, like a mini Gibraltar, dominates the harbour.
A few minutes drive away to the west is the beautiful secluded beach of Cantarijan (naturist – optional) with its welcoming sun beds and shades in front of the La Barraca restaurant (be sure to try the house salad). A little further to the west, in the next bay, the more peaceful but equally beautiful Canuelo beach, is ideal for snorkelling around the rocks in the crystal clear water.
The area is renowned for its diving with several international diving schools. It is also a paradise for watersports enthusiasts - the local beach has a windsurfing/sailing school for hire of equipment and/or instruction.
How to get there

Further details indoors: The villa (160 sq.metres or 1600 sq. ft.) is light and bright throughout, and the overall feeling is conducive to complete relaxation in a peaceful environment. The villa was carefully designed to avoid the necessity for air conditioning by placing bedrooms on the ground floor with no west facing windows .
The entrance hall leads to the spacious lounge/dining room, kitchen, guest toilet, and stairs to the ground floor. The lounge area seats 8 with 2 x 3-seater sofas, and a 2-seater sofa. A wood burning open fire provides warmth for guests in winter, and ceiling fans cool summer guests. A hi-fi is provided (please bring your favourite CDs) and the satellite TV has English free to view programs. French doors lead from the lounge to the terrace, via an alcove which houses a large writing desk, ideal for letter writing or laptop users (ADSL wi-fi connection provided).
There are beautiful sea views from the south facing windows in the dining area. Further French doors lead from the dining area to the south and west facing spacious upper terrace, overlooking the pool and the sea.
In the large fully fitted kitchen, extensive oak units conceal a fridge, separate freezer, washing machine and dish washer. Electric oven and hob, espresso coffee machine and toaster are provided, along with all necessary utensils, crockery, cutlery, and glassware. The triple aspect windows face south, west and north. A door leads directly from the kitchen to the lounge/dining area.
Downstairs, a hallway leads to the lower terrace, 3 bedrooms, and separate bathroom. The principal bedroom, with bathroom en suite, fitted wardrobes, double bed, chest of drawers, bedside tables, and ceiling fan, faces South, with views to the sea.
The second bedroom, also south facing, with bathroom en suite, fitted wardrobes, double bed, bedside tables, and ceiling fan, has the added advantage of its own French doors to the lower terrace and pool. Ideal for early morning swimmers!
The third bedroom faces east, has fitted wardrobes, 2 single beds, chest of drawers, bedside table and ceiling fan, with use of the separate bathroom. All three bathrooms have a bath with shower and curtain, a hand basin, WC and bidet.
Further details outdoors: The villa faces due South, and is situated in a 400 sq. metre (4000 sq. feet) plot. The entrance to the first floor is via a gate with personal intercom.

It is reached down a few steps via the garden from the lower terrace. Around the pool is a large paved sunbathing area, with sun beds and shades, and an unusual and attractive outside shower.
The palms trees and bushes in the garden are automatically watered by an irrigation system, and the pool is regularly cleaned. A path leads right around the house.
