The Costa Tropical/Granada region

Marina Del Este - this pretty moderate sized leisure port has developed into a smart alternative to beachside strolling- hosting several bars and restaurants- the ideal location for dining. With its own beach club and restaurant it is a popular place for families to picnic on the beach, swim or relax and 'chill' in the clear waters. It has also featured in a few films and at the weekend is a big draw for yachts to moor and lunch! Almunecar - Big sister to La Herradura (approx 10 mins drive) with rich archaeological remains from Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish times which are a popular tourist attractions. Miles of beaches, An Aquapark, a bird park with over 1500 species, a new aquarium,and tropical park. Nerja- Very popular lively town (15 mins) The spectacular Caves of Nerja which are one of the most beautiful in Europe. It also boasts the Balcon de Europe with views to Morroco on a clear day.
Further Afield Granada the capital of the province boasts the stunning Alahambra Palace reputed to be the 8th wonder of the world. It is essential to book to avoid disapointment. Granada is a fabulous university city with excellent shopping and a wide range of activities . It is also a popular city break. With the stunning mountains of Sierra Nevada nearby it is perfect for all types of holidays from city breaks, sight seeing, mountaineering, walking and skiing. Almeria 1hour 45 mins drive away is a very interesting Moorish town with a large port, an international airport. It is surrounded by beautiful coastal towns boasting very clear water. Nature reserves- The Pena Escrita Nature Park is a 40 minute drive from La Herradura and is a complex for nature lovers and those keen on active sports. There is also a nudist beach 15 minutes drive away( the setting for TV programmes).You don't have to strip off by the way!
La Herradura / Punta de la Mona area
The traditional fishing village of La Herradura retains its unique charm and is the undiscovered gem along the coast. It is a typical Andalucian white washed village with buildings climbing the gentle slopes of a small hill leading from the beach. Throughout the length of the bay you will find a selection of local 'chirringuitos' restaurants and shops. The larger towns of Nerja and Almunecar are just a 15/20 minute drive away. The major international airports of Malaga and Granada are just an hour away.
