A luxury apartment, furnished to a high standard, situated just 300 yards from the beach and a wide range of restaurants to suit all tastes. With two bedrooms, an excellent communal pool and sunbathing area, this apartment is ideal for both families or couples with plenty to do for all ages in the area. The activities available include watersports, riding and walking in the beautiful natural parks, the Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada and two golf courses both less than half an hours drive away. Scuba diving is very popular in this area due to the rocky headlands at either side of the bay.
There is easy access to all amenities and a good range of local markets in the area as well as the busier resorts of Almuñecar and Nerja.

The Costa Tropical/Granada region
La Herradura (translated as the horseshoe) lies on a beautiful curved bay between the headlands of Cerro Gordo to the west and Punta de la Mona to the east, on the Costa Tropical. This relatively unknown stretch of the costline of Andalucia just east of the busier Costa del Sol, is characterised by the rugged hills and deep ravines behind, with small villages sheltering in the valleys or clinging to the hillsides. Above everything tower the Sierra Nevada, the highest peaks in Spain. These mountains form a natural weather break protecting the coastline from the worst of the European winter weather and Africa to the south protects the coast from the Mediterranean and Atlantic winters, leading to an extremely benign climate. This is noticably in the wide variety of produce to be found in the local markets all the year round including many exotic fruits, one of which, the Chirimoya was introduced to Spain in the 18th century from the Philippines and is grown nowhere else in Europe. Avocados, mangoes, guavas and many other fruits can be found here. La Herradura boasts some 320 days of sunshine a year and is one of the few places where one can ski in the morning (on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada) and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon.
La Herradura area
La Herradura, whilst relatively small, does have a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants including a daily fresh meat, fish and vegatable market, supermarkets, baker, banks, chemists, hairdressers etc. Many of the bars and restaurants are situated either on or close to the beach making this the ideal place to idle your days away relaxing in the sunshine. For the more active there is a wide range of watersports including water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving; tennis, hang gliding and horse riding are also available in the village. The famous ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are just over an hours drive away and are usually open until May. For keen walkers the Cerro Gordo national park lies at one end of the village, there are more walks in the hills behind and in the Alpujarras (half an hours drive away). There are golf courses within less than half an hours drive of the village. For those looking for a more lively nightlife the towns of Almunecar (5 minutes drive) and Nerja (15 minutes drive) are close by offering a wide range of bars, restaurants, flamenco dancing, piano bars and discotheques with cuisine ranging from traditional Spanish, Chinese, Indian and Moroccan to name just a few. There is a bird park to be found in Almunecar and in the neighbouring resort of La Vililla there is a waterpark. In the area can be found some of the well known white villages, castles, coastal forts and on the La Herrdura side of Nerja are the famous caves which are well worth a visit. The main local fiesta in La Herrdura celebrates the patron saint and is a week long fair culminating in a procession and fire works on the 19th March, St. Jopseph's Day.

Why not add on a few days or a week of sailing to your beach holiday? We have a 40 foot sailing yacht available for skippered charter holidays for up to 4 persons for October and November, February, March and April. Gibraltar and North Africa are within sailing distance on a week holiday as well as a good number of harbours along the coast. Your skipper is a fully qualified RYA instructor who used to run a very successful Sailing School and Yacht Charter company from Devon. Please contact the property owner for further information.
