The Andalucia region
The Costa Tropical with its fantastic climate offers for the sun lover over 26 beaches in the area all offering something different , some are a little remote and accessible by rocky paths or boat , some like La Herradura and Almunecar are right in the town and have all the facilities or you can sample the beautiful Cantarrijan beach which is one of several naturist beaches with two superb restaurants. Personally the small marina beach at the bottom of the hill takes a lot of beating !
West of La Herradura has a great coastline (with beaches) leading to ' Nerja ' which is a very vibrant town with its many street artists, performers and musicians and an underground cave ( largest in Europe ) to be explored. In the hills behind Nerja is the traditional Andalucian village of Frigiliana with its cobbled streets , craft shops and some very nice places to eat .
Granada just over an hours drive has an abundance of history , from the Alhambra Palace to its Cathederal or visit the Albayzin and ethnic quarters and of course good restaurants / bars . Dont forget skiing in the Sierra Nevada !
.Pena Escrita natural park is a short drive up the mountain behind La Herradura , It is a great family day haveing a zoological park area , pool and restaurants , mountain bike hire and horse rideing.
The area is renowned for its many festivals and events from jazz to fireworks in august in Almunecar. Numerous local religious festivals take place all year round (its worth checking the internet or local magazines for further information).
Golf is avaliable in Salobrena, Valez Malaga and Grenada.

"thoroughly enjoyed our stay"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at "The View" apartment. It certainly lived up to it's name. The private balcony was extremely large and a wonderful vantage point for the panoramic sea views. Although a little bit away from La Herradura town, we didn't bother to rent a car; we found the shortcut down to the town by taking a rugged set of stairs at one of the viewpoints along the way and then the back road. It took about 10-15 minutes. Just don't forget to pick up the milk in town before you set off up the hill. The apartment was lovely; clean, spacious, well-appointed, modern and marble throughout. The temperatures were quite warm (daytime in the 30's) but we didn't need the air conditioning, a nice breeze came in from the sea and it cooled down enough at night to sleep comfortably. We had 2 pools to choose from and they were never busy. The town itself had plenty to offer, is a destination for the Spanish (families mainly) and there were many restaurants and cafe's to choose from. The Market had lovely fruit and fresh fish and seafood and there were plenty of little shops to keep me going. It was a lovely place to visit and we took the bus from La Herradura to Granada one day and the Alhambre and to Almunecar another day. Both very interesting. We could have gone to many other places by bus from La Herradura but the draw of the sea kept us close to the apartment and the town. We would love to return.
