The Costa Tropical/Granada region
La Herradura is an andalusian village in a sheltered bay in the Spanish Costa Tropical wich still keeps its character despite tourism. Limits with Malaga province (Costa del Sol) only for 8 kilometres. This bay is limited by La Punta de la Mona and Cerro Gordo, forming an unique viewpoint westbound by the coast to Maro (Málaga). A landscape with superb cliffs, clear water retired beaches and mediterranean pinewoods. Cerro Gordo is also a natural special protected area where you can see a sort of mediterranean and rare plant species clear water retired small beaches. The tropical micro climate can be noticed by the number of palms, exotic gardens and fruit trees in the area such as mangos, avocados, sugar cane, banana trees…this kind of climate is produced by a lucky combination of south orientation of the coast, the nearness of the sea and the chains of mountains "sierras" which protect this coast from any northern influence. This region has been colonized for every mediterranean people along the history, as you´ll be explained when you visit Almuñécar.
La Herradura / Las Palomas area
Main town in the Area : Almuñécar (5 km.) with shops, bars, restaurants, aquatic park, exotic birds and plants park, popular street Market (Friday), superb arabic fortress in the top of the town, roman and fenician ruins… Don´t miss: Salobreña, Marina del Este, Nerja (and Nerja caves), Frigiliana and Axarquía villages, Las Alpujarras, Los Guajares, and of course the incomparable city of Granada. There is a daily market and every kind of shops in La Herradura village. La Herradura beach is a very popular between many european families due to his natural shelter character and his clear and safe waters, so its very suitable if you have children. They can snorkel very safely a few meters from the beach line. All kind of water sports available in La Herradura. Famous scuba diving location with two diving schools. Lots of restaurants, bars and typical beachfront bar-restaurants where to enjoy the typical Spanish “tapas”. Spanish style fried fish is the most typical food but also you´ll find in a number of restaurants cooking from inner Málaga and Granada province (like Las Alpujarras or Axarquía). Golf: "Los Moriscos" in Motril, at 25 km . and "Baviera Golf" in Caleta de Vélez at 30 km. Horse riding available in La Herradura.
How to get there
The best is to fly to Malaga Airport. The house is only at 70 km. from the Airport by motorway (less than 1 hour). Lots of car hire companies available in airport area. By bus, you can take a taxi from Málaga airport to the central bus station, take the local bus Nerja and Motril direction and go down in La Herradura (17 km. before Motril). If driving, rent a car in Málaga and drive E15/N340. Passing Nerja La Herradura is only 11 km. (the first town entering in Granada province from Málaga). Railway station in Málaga and Granada. I can order for you a confidence taxi from La Herradura to Málaga or Granada airport. (the tariff is cheaper than if you take a taxi in Málaga airport ).

Hemos pasado el mes de mayo entero y es la mejor casa que he alquilado nunca y no sólo la casa, que tiene de todo, sino el lugar donde está ubicada, rodeada de vegetación en la que viven ardilas y miles de pájaros con sus differentes cantos.
