The Normandy region
I call it the equivalent of north west Scotland for France. Remote, wild vast beaches and dunes, no motorways.
They filmed a lot of "Tess", Polanski's film in the north Cotentin, and I am not surprised. There is magical light here!
One must not be in a hurry, though...
Great seafood, great lamb, great cheeses. Cider country, calvados country but there is always a good bottle of wine at hand too.
Surrounded by sea, the Cotentin benefits of the biggest tides in Europe for oyster farming and for unusual beach landscapes.
