The Tenerife region

Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands. It offers all year round sunshine with good temperatures. There is an average temperature of 25º in the summer and 20º in the winter so is ideal at any time of the year.
Tourism is synonymous with bright sunshine and swimming in the sea. With over 350 kilometres of coastline,a wide variety of beaches with golden or volcanic sand, family-friendly beaches, hidden beaches, nudist beaches ……that’s without including the unique natural seawater pools of Tenerife.
The stunning scenary lets you be in contact with nature. There are many mountain paths ready for exploration.
The La Guancha area
For those who seek peace and quiet without isolation and a moderate sunny climate in an area where serious crime is virtually unknown, La Guancha in the North of Tenerife is the place to go!
La Ruta del Agua and Barranco Ruiz are two footpaths through the mountains, ideal for ramblers. Forest tracks around the village offer some different views of Mount Teide and a recently created recreation area at El Lagar includes barbecue facilities and a children's playground.
In the nearby town of Icod de los Vinos you can experience a visit to one of the largest lava caves in the European Union. The Cueva del Viento (Cave of the Wind) underground complex is now open to the public Tuesday to Saturday. www.cuevadelviento.net for more information.
However, if rambling isn't your thing and you prefer the sea then Charco del Viento is the local beach. As Tenerife is a volcanic island, the beaches in the north are rocky; however these small rock pools are ideal for swimming and fishing.
It's full of tradition with local shops and typical restaurants offering traditional canarian food and wine only a few minutes walk away.
The village is known for the quality of its white wine, which is produced under the Ycoden-Daute-Isora 'Denominacíon de Origen' and is noted for its golden colour and unusual taste. A good place to have a taste of this wine is the Bodega de Viñatico, a local vinyard only 50m away!
If you're looking for local customs and fiestas then "Virgen de la Esperanza" on 15th August and "Virgin de Coromoto" at the end of May are worth experiencing. The world famous Tenerife Carnival is the second biggest in the world after Rio de Janeiro, a fantastic colourful sight with elaborate costumes & music and takes place at the beginning of Lent (usually February).
"Loro Parque" is the biggest tourist attraction in the north of the island and close to Puerto de la Cruz. Here you will find the world's largest parrot collection and many other animals including a spectacular dolphin show. www.loroparque.com
For the golfers, the Buenavista Golf course (designed by Seve Ballesteros) is a drive away along the north coastline and situated next to Buenavista beach.

Good afternoon, my dear friends! My name is Maria! We're couple with a young child (6 years old) from Russia!! With the great pleasure i want to write a response about our rest on Tenerife, in the finest place La Guancha! At once I will notice that we lived in this house already twice! Absolutely casually we have found this wonderful house on one of web-sites! Correspondence was conducted very operatively, owners with the smallest details answered our questions and helped with the organization of our travel. When we have arrived for the first time, owners met us at the airport, on the way we have come in a hypermarket, have bought set of the freshest products: bread, fruit, seafood, magnificent local wine and many other things. When we have arrived to the house, was already dark... But even in the dark I have fallen in love at once with this place...4ever.... Even greatness of Tejde (the kind on which opens from a terrace) it was felt and the smell of the salty sea was caught.... The house has amazed us with the interior... All details are thought so over.... All is made with huge love, sense of style and a cosiness!! Two floors are divided by a magnificent ladder.... The kitchen is completely equipped... Here you will find all! The house, "breathes" local color, traditions really literally... Sometimes it seemed to us that we have turned to local residents.... The tiny church which is two steps away from the house, each half an hour notifies you on time a ring of the bells. If you early wake up, necessarily will hear, as the local baker on the car carries the freshest bread on houses.... It it is possible to stop him and buy a crackling baguette for a breakfast! When day replaces night, and the sun slowly rises from a horizon.... You slowly open your eyes... Do 2 steps from a bed .. Appear on a terrace .... the splendid kind on a boundless sea smooth surface, on vineyards and, certainly, Tejde opens to you .... This inexpressible sensation: to sit in the morning on terrace, with a cup of hot coffee and to study smooth bends of the greatest volcano of Spain!!!! Also, I want to notice that in this small town IN GENERAL there are no TOURISTS!!!!!!!!! It is our secret! Here it is possible to have a rest really from vanity, a megacity and people!!! Thus, if you rent the car, there are no complexities to reach to any point of island... At once I will tell that this part of island was pleasant to us much more, than the south of Tenerife.... Here absolutely other nature, another landscape .. And other kind of people.... Here in each cafe you will be concern as dear visitor, instead of as to an income source... Here meal prepare with love and respect for traditions, always from the freshest products. Owners of the house - very kind and sympathetic people, always helped us, gave advice.... Though almost don't speak English! But it to us didn't disturb also we understood each other from a semi-word! We were to Tenerife in this house already twice and I am sure, we will visit this magnificent place again & again!! Because now i know how to feel very rare on other end of a planet , like you feel in your own home! And in it a merit of owners of it of house-good-natured and cheerful Horjhe and Lala! These people have helped us to feel spirit of island, culture of local residents and a charm of independent travel! So if you the active person, the nature, local traditions is interesting to you, you travel independently, you hate "buffet" and hotels "all inclusive", you aren't afraid of a mountain streamer and you aren't ready to spend the holiday for round-the-clock lying on a beach if you are impressed with mountains, greatness of ocean and salty air.... Then-you here! Better a place to Tenerife you won't find!!!! So..if you can't believe that it's true..- write me...i'll send you 10000 photos of this place...Yours faithfully, love and hope of a soon meeting, always yours Maria, Anton and Egor. mango113@yandex.ru |
Guestbook for Casa Carmela
"Traditional house, lovingly restored with magnificent views from two sun terraces. Everything you need for a perfect holiday in a completely unspoilt part of the island that's as far off the mass tourist trail as it's possible to be."
Lynne and Mark Newhook of Hertfordshire
"We loved the house. It suited us perfectly as it is so full of character, which is what we look for in a holiday home. Very well equipped too. Wonderful views from the roof terraces". Claudia and Ross, Bedfordshire
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our accommodation was very comfortable and the view from the terraces was fantastic. We watched both the sunrise and the sunset. La Guancha was an excellent place from which to tour the island and yet off the tourist track. We will certainly visit Tenerife again as there is still so much we did not have time to see.
Anne Uhart, London
'Fabulous views from a lovely house, full of character. Nice to wake up and see the ocean!'
