La Vallée
About the home
One of "Europe's 40 hottest villas"(The Times), this traditional stone barn is set in 4 acres of private grounds in peaceful, idyllic countryside - a true eagle's eye view of the real France. Totally reconstructed for 2008 the original barn is now the immense vaulted living room and retains the essential original features.
This leads onto the dining terrace (with motorised awning) which has dominating views over the heated swimming pool and surrounding, rolling countryside.
Original stone walls feature in almost every room and 1 bedroom suite is accessed from outside only, with the same great views from bed. All bedrooms are en-suite: 3 bath/shower and 1 twin-size shower.

With the stunning views, it is the perfect spot for enjoying al-fresco dining (professional gas BBQ provided), watching the buzzards lazily circling on the thermals and saluting the dramatic sunsets over the gorges. It is, of course, lit so that dining can go on well after sunset, after which the underwater lit pool provides the next dramatic backdrop.
The 10m x 5m pool has Roman Steps for easy entry and exit. It is heated to a target 27C by a powerful heat pump (NOT sunshine dependant!) and has a very large sun terrace, 25sq.m of which is shaded for the comfort of the whole party. It has its own solar shower for cooling down and rinsing off; one of the bathrooms also has a poolside entrance for the convenience of swimmers. Adjustable loungers and cushions are provided. The Games Room below this terrace has table tennis, table football ("babyfoot") and darts; outside games also provided for all the family.
The property is about 5min drive from medieval Najac, awarded the accolade "l'un des plus beaux villages de France" with its extensive recreational activities. Najac is dominated by its Richard the Lionheart fortress and surrounded by the Aveyron river, which offers water activities such as kayaking, rafting etc as well as hundreds of kilometres of marked walking and cycling tracks.
There are 8 restaurants within 10min drive, ranging from 2 of Michelin quality down to the family-friendly pizzeria - all have outdoor dining areas and many have views over the surrounding valleys.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region

Only recently easily accessible by air links and the new A20 motorway, Aveyron has been described as one of the last secret areas of France and Occitan is still spoken by many. The Aveyron has 10 of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" (the most beautiful villages in France), more than any other department. Of these, Najac is on our doorstep and is also a "Grand Site" of the Aveyron. Its gastronomy is renowned!
It is valued by tourists looking for the "real" France and has a predominantly agricultural as opposed to tourism economy. The countryside in the foothills linking the Languedoc to the Massif Central is generally spectacular, green from the winter rainfall but with the long dry spells of the Languedoc in summer.
The major rivers of Lot, Aveyron and Tarn each have stunning gorges and other natural features such as the famous cheesemaking caves at Roquefort. The world's highest viaduct bridge can be seen crossing the Tarn at Millau and is an awesome sight!
The La Fouillade area
La Fouillade itself is a quiet village with baker, butcher, chemist, post office, a couple of bars, a couple of restaurants, small supermarket and a corner shop. It adjoins Najac just 5min drive away which is a medieval famous bastide village and the ancient capital of the region. It has a tourist office who will help you with all your local activities and visits. Najac boasts many restaurants, two of which are Michelin listed.
The nearest town is Villefranche de Rouergue with its substantial weekly market and 3 superstores, about 20min drive. It is a bastide as well, as are Villeneuve and Cordes-sur-Ciel both about 30min drive. Further away are the Roquefort cheese caves and the remarkable bridge at Millau - the world's highest road viaduct.
Relaxation and enjoyment of the outdoor life are key here, with great local opportunities for water activities, walking, cycling and riding. But for city life, Toulouse is easily accessible by car or train direct from Najac and is perhaps best known both as a university town as well as headquarters of the Airbus operation and the site of the French Space City.

Great house, great views, great walks. Many thanks to our hosts Sue & Glenn for their local knowledge & friendly nature. Fantastic stay.
Mr & Mrs MacGregor, October 2011
A brilliant week with friends at La Vallée. An idyllic spot, relaxing, comfortable, great walking and beautiful views.
The Clarke Family, October 2011
Beautiful villa set in peaceful and serene countryside. It has all been said before, but it really is something else. Local food is excellent and also very much recommend the at-home chef:it was the highlight of the week, superb food at a really good price. Also, book the at-home masseuse, 4 of us did and would not stop talking about it!
Mr & Mrs Hedges, September 2011
We came looking for peace and quiet, which La Vallée provides in abundance. It's been great just lazing by the pool, jumping in for a few laps when it gets too hot and watching the amazing sunsets. Thanks to Sue & Glenn for unobtrusively making the holiday run like clockwork.
The Lighten Family, August 2011
Four generations enjoyed this beautiful villa for a week. The scenary was amazing and the breeze took the heat off the midday sun. The kids never left the pool so are going home a couple of little prunes. We had a really wonderful time and have made plans to come back. Many thanks to Sue and Glenn.
The Singler Family, August 2011
Villa was superb in a beautiful, unspoilt & tranquil location. The children made good use of the pool and the sun shade over the pool terrace really works-you can tan without burning whilst reading a book. Bliss, a great holiday!
The Ryder Family, July 2011
Fantastic villa and a beautiful, unspoilt part of France with incredibly friendly people despite our fairly grim French!
The White Family, June 2011
Yet again a fantastic holiday and made to feel very welcome by Sue and Glenn. Hope to be back again.
The Craig Family, May 2011
One of the pleasures in life is to sit on a summer's evening with a warm breeze and a glass of wine reflecting on the pleasures of the day & what better way to do so than sitting on the terrace at la Vallée!

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We loved the house and the region. We will always have fond memories of La Vallée.
The Hill Party (8 artists), Tasmania, September 2010
La Vallée is simply magical! Having travelled half way round the world to this idyllic place it exceeded all our expectations as did the owners' friendliness and warmth. It made 12 months of planning for our group of 8 totally worthwhile. The whole area is an artist's paradise and we will leave our "home" of 2 weeks with a sense of loss as we all of us loved this place, the views, the morning dips in the pool and just everything about it. Najac is wonderful and we can thoroughly recommend the food.
The Hazell Family, London, August 2010
A beautiful house in a beautiful spot. We had a great holiday and the kids loved the pool. Thanks.
The Langley Family, August 2010
A truly relaxing holiday. Great to have a pool at a bearable temperature! The house had everything we neeeded and more. Beautiful views. Kids loved the Games Room. A good time was had by all.
The Baines and O'Brien Families, July 2010
We all really needed this break and have been thrilled to discover a part of France previously unknown to us. Peace, quiet and beautiful landscape. We loved the wildlife around La Vallée. Too many lovely villages to visit in one trip and excellent meals everywhere. Happy Holidays to all those who follow us.....
The Webb Family, July 2010
We loved the house, especially the shaded pool terrace which was great for the hot, sunny weather. We ate out at several restaurants which were excellent value for money and sampled quite a few of the creations from the fantastic patisserie in La Fouillade.
Mr & Mrs Pengelly, May & June 2010
Here for another 2 months, we've said it all below!

Mr & Mrs Pengelly, November 2009
Back again for 5 weeks - since our last stay we've had rental holidays in both UK and France and still have yet to find a house of comparable quality. Some come close but all lack the "Glenn & Sue" factor - attention to the details that make for a great holiday home!
The Bradley and Langdale Families, October 2009
What a stunning place. Thank you Glenn & Sue for your friendly welcome. Can highly recommend having Michelle Rossignol prepare a meal at home, top class, really special. A wonderful week. Thank you.

We’ve had a great week in this beautiful villa. We’re all very, very sad to leave! The pool is fantastic, the kids (and adults) loved the pool toys. The inside of the villa is wonderful with everything we could possibly need. Even our baby has had her needs fulfilled. We’ve had loads of days out and the villa has been wonderful to come back to. Thank you for being so welcoming and we hope to be back next year

A wonderful stress-free week at La Vallée. Utter contentment for 7 days. A stunning villa, tantalising villages, breath-taking views, exquisite food and wine. The Choudhuy Family, July 2008
From the moment we stepped in to La Vallée we knew we had found somewhere special where you could do and forget that the wide world exists. From the amazing scenary, the country sounds of cow bells, gushing water, birds of prey to the lovely furnishings that beg to be explored. The surrounding villages are just utterly charming and we can honestly say this is one of the most wonderful places in the world we have been to. Thanks so much Glenn and Sue for all your help and advice over the week. WIll be back!
