Home description
This traditional stone barn is set in 4 acres of private grounds in peaceful, idyllic countryside - a true eagle's eye view of the real France. Totally reconstructed for 2008 and listed by The Times as one of "Europe's 40 hottest villas", the original barn is now the immense vaulted living room and retains the essential original features.
This leads onto the dining terrace (with motorised awning) which has dominating views over the heated swimming pool and surrounding, rolling countryside.
Original stone walls feature in almost every room and 1 bedroom suite is accessed from outside only, with the same great views from bed. All bedrooms are en-suite: 3 bath/shower and 1 twin-size shower.
Perfect al-fresco dining-with a view!
Comfy sofas in the vaulted Living Room
The Master Bedroom suite just 2 steps from the pool-slip out of bed for your first morning dip

The Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region
Only recently easily accessible by air links and the new A20 motorway, Aveyron has been described as one of the last secret areas of France and Occitan is still spoken by many.
It is valued by tourists looking for the "real" France and has a predominantly agricultural as opposed to tourism economy. The countryside in the foothills linking the Languedoc to the Massif Central is generally spectacular, green from the winter rainfall but with the long dry spells of the Languedoc in summer.
The major rivers of Lot, Aveyron and Tarn each have stunning gorges and other natural features such as the famous cheesemaking caves at Roquefort.
La Fouillade area
La Fouillade itself is a quiet village with baker, butcher, chemist, post office, a couple of bars, a couple of restaurants and a corner shop. It adjoins Najac just 5min drive away which is a medieval famous bastide village and the ancient capital of the region. It has a tourist office who will help you with all your local activities and visits.
The nearest town is Villefranche de Rouergue with its substantial weekly market and 3 superstores, about 20min drive. It is a bastide as well, as are Villeneuve and Cordes-sur-Ciel both about 30min drive. Further away are the Roquefort cheese caves and the remarkable bridge at Millau - the world's highest road viaduct.
Relaxation and enjoyment of the outdoor life are key here, with great local opportunities for water activities, walking, cycling and riding. But for city life, Toulouse is easily accessible by car or train direct from Najac and is perhaps best known both as a university town as well as headquarters of the Airbus operation and the site of the French Space City.
How to get there
-fly Ryanair to Rodez (1 hour from Rodez airport) -fly Easyjet, BA or Flybe to Toulouse (1.5 hrs from Toulouse airport) -by road from channel ports in about 8 hrs via toll-free A20 motorway

The Living Room and Kitchen both lead onto the south and west facing elevated terrace. With the stunning views, it is the perfect spot for enjoying al-fresco dining (professional gas BBQ provided), watching the buzzards lazily circling on the thermals and saluting the dramatic sunsets over the gorges. It is, of course, lit so that dining can go on well after sunset, after which the underwater lit pool provides the next dramatic backdrop.
The 10m x 5m pool with Roman Steps is heated to a target 27C and has a very large sun terrace, 25sq.m of which is shaded for the comfort of the whole party. It has its own solar shower for cooling down and rinsing off; one of the bathrooms also has a poolside entrance for the convenience of swimmers. Adjustable loungers and cushions are provided. The Games Room below this terrace has table tennis, table football ("babyfoot") and darts; outside games also provided for all the family.
The property is about 5min drive from medieval Najac, awarded the accolade "l'un des plus beaux villages de France" with its extensive recreational activities. Najac is dominated by its Richard the Lionheart fortress and surrounded by the Aveyron river, which offers water activities such as kayaking, rafting etc as well as hundreds of kilometres of marked walking and cycling tracks.
There are 8 restaurants within 10min drive, ranging from 2 of Michelin quality down to the family-friendly pizzeria - all have outdoor dining areas and many have views over the surrounding valleys.

Guestbook for La Vallée
2009 Mr & Mrs Pengelly, November 2009 Back again for 5 weeks - since our last stay we've had rental holidays in both UK and France and still have yet to find a house of comparable quality. Some come close but all lack the "Glenn & Sue" factor - attention to the details that make for a great holiday home!
The Bradley and Langdale Families, October 2009 What a stunning place. Thank you Glenn & Sue for your friendly welcome. Can highly recommend having Michelle Rossignol prepare a meal at home, top class, really special. A wonderful week. Thank you.
The Page & Messer Families, August 2009 What a beautiful villa & location. Lots of fun for the children & relaxation for the adults!
The Mann Family, September 2009 Loved the house & beautiful surroundings! The pool and Games Room were fantastic and the local villagers were very friendly. Excellent holiday.

The Ness Family, July 2009 Congratulations Glenn & Sue - having created something so idyllic from the previous ruin is astounding.
The Thomas Family, July 2009 Thank you for allowing us to spend time in your beautiful home with its spectacular views. Thanks for advice about restaurants and excursions, everyone we have met in La Fouillade has been so friendly. Good luck to Glenn & Sue for understanding the needs of a family on holiday.
Mr M; Market Harborough; June 2009 What a perfect house. A wonderful time and so relaxing. Najac is beautiful and the 12 euro lunch at St Andre de Najac a must for 5 courses!
Mr & Mrs B; Middlesborough; June 2009 We’ve had a great week in this beautiful villa. We’re all very, very sad to leave! The pool is fantastic, the kids (and adults) loved the pool toys. The inside of the villa is wonderful with everything we could possibly need. Even our baby has had her needs fulfilled. We’ve had loads of days out and the villa has been wonderful to come back to. Thank you for being so welcoming and we hope to be back next year
