PROPERTY "DE CHARME"
from £208 /night help
House | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
THE HOUSE is on the edge of the beautiful village of La Flotte, and ideally placed for access to beaches, restaurants, golf, fishing, riding and cycling. It has been newly renovated to accommodate a maximum of 4 adults and 4 children.
It is well laid out to offer a bit of privacy for two families of 4 on holiday together, or for extra space for one larger family, with two pairs of bedrooms. The largest bedroom, with a 160cm bed, has French windows onto the garden together with an ensuite shower and wc The adjacent bedroom has full size (90 x 200cm) bunk beds and there is a large modern shower room with wc. The second pair of rooms has a double bedroom with a 140cm bed, a large modern shower room with wc, and the second bunk room. These bunks are custom made with the upper bunk being very high and we don't recommend it for young children. All are furnished in the typical Rhetaise style with shuttered windows and simple painted furniture Between the two pairs of bedrooms, there is a large living/dining room with a modern well-equipped kitchen at one end which has a dishwasher, microwave, oven and hob, and fridge/freezer. There are 2 small TVs, DVD, radio, and a good selection of books together with wireless-internet access. A washing machine and drier can be found in the separate cellar on the side of the house. For rentals in cooler seasons there are efficient radiators in all rooms.
Outside there is a large 10m x 5m pool, which has a contre courante in the deep end, and enough garden furniture for everyone to enjoy. The pool is heated from May to September. The garden is timber decked and terraced throughout for easy maintenance. A large dining table on the west-facing terrace allows for meals to be served outside whenever you prefer, and especially on the balmy summer evenings.

La Flotte en Re
Ile de Ré is a captivating island set off the west coast of France next to the city of La Rochelle. Ile de Ré is a chic location with a background of picturesque harbours, restaurants and long white sandy beaches. Cycle paths cover the island and the narrow streets of the 10 villages make foot or bicycle the best way to get around. The island is 35km long and 5km wide and is joined to the mainland by a spectacular 3km bridge which touches down in La Rochelle with its impressive ports and old town.
Ile de Re shares the privilege with the Cote d'Azur of being one of the sunniest regions of France. Its climate is mild, and the temperature almost never goes below freezing. Its vegetation is surprisingly southern, almost Mediterranean. Pine trees and palms grow there easily, and the glare of the white houses against the deep blue sky irresistibly evokes some Greek village adrift on the Atlantic Ocean.
A flat, fragrant, family friendly holiday spot. it's criss-crossed by an extensive network (160km) of cycle paths which wind through fields full of poppies, pine forests, pretty French villages, past fishing harbours, salt pans and oyster farms. It's also celebrated for its endless sandy beaches backed by powdery dunes. The island feels like the France, or rather the 'seaside' of yesteryear. It is the perfect place for running barefoot along the shore, playing hide and seek in the sand dunes, picking your way through rock pools and picnics on the sand.
Strict building regulations have meant that even new properties have to stick to the low-slung whitewashed-with-green-shutters look. However, the chic shops and waterfront restaurants of the fishing villages give it a very French maritime sophistication.
