La Detourbe is a converted Normandy longere, or longhouse. It is situated in 2 acres of garden at the edge of the Normandy Maine Regional Park. .
The unspoilt area is rural and very picturesque, with several towns within easy reach, notably Bagnoles-de-Orne which is a beautiful spa town just a 10 minute drive away. You also have the landing beaches appproximately 1 hour away, the very popular Le Mont St. Michel just a little futher away and the famous Bayeaux Tapestry at Bayeaux around 45 minutes drive.
The rental property is a barn conversion, with the owners living next door in the original farm house. In the conversion there are two fully self-contained, centrally heated gites, ideal for all age groups and families, suitable for use throughout the year. Gite 2 shown here has three en-suite bedrooms and the small gite ( Gite 1 - see other property ) has one en-suite bedroom.
Guests have full use of a large conservatory opening onto the sun terrace, at the rear of the property. The conservatory and sun terrace enable you to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful, very rural area of France. The large garden has a variety of fruit and nut trees and is surrounded by fields and woods.

The Normandy region
Lower Normandy is famous for the production of cider, Calvados and cheeses. The most famous cheese is Camembert, renowned worldwide.
The area is a mixture of rural countryside, small and large towns, with Caen being the regional capital, and beautiful coastline, where the World War 2 landing beaches are visited by people from around the world.
La Ferte Mace
The area around La Detourbe is quite rural, with many empty roads for relaxing excursions for sight-seeing. There are several chateaux and castles nearby to visit. The oldest is William the Conquerer's castle at Falaise.
La Detourbe is situated at the edge of the Normandie Maine Regional Parc, which contains several large forests and woods, giving plenty of opportunity for walking and picnicing.
