The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region

THE CITY OF VALENCIA
Valencia is the third largest city in Spain. It is a vibrant and beautiful city which is proud of its historical heritage, clean beaches and fantastic fiestas. Valencia is just a 10 minute drive away, although it is far easier to take the metro, just 10 minutes walk from the villa with regular trains taking you straight into the heart of the city. There is also a regular bus service to Valencia with a bus stop in the road in front of the house. Either option is suitable for exploring the city. The old city shows off the wonderful history and architecture. Make sure you have seen the imposing remains of the city walls, the Torres de Serrano and the Torres de Quart, the Cathedral complex, and the 16th-century Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange) then relax and enjoy the local food in any of the cafe bars. For a complete contrast we highly recommend the stunning new arts and sciences complex, it is the largest cultural and educational complex in Europe including the marine park and dolphinarium, as well as an IMAX cinema featuring all the latest big screen films, a beautiful and relaxing garden promenade, the science museum where interaction with the exhibits is encouraged, planetarium, and the newly finished palace of arts concert and recital hall. For beach lovers there are so many beaches available, with so many earning the coveted blue flag it is difficult to single any out. If you want to be close to the city then Valencia city has its own beaches of Las Arenas and La Malvarrosa which are connected by a sea front promenade. They can be reached by trams from the city or you could drive there in about 40 minutes. There are also the superb beaches near El Saler which is also very close to the Albufera nature reserve, which has a vast lagoon and also offers many varied nature walks.
Activities: Water and Beach activities are a way of life in Valencia, activities include sailing, surfing, Kite surfing, jet skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing, fishing and just about anything else you can think of. Valencia was proud to hold the America’s Cup in 2007, showcasing the region’s vast array of water sports, beach activities, fiestas and competitions. So much so that it s expected that the 33rd edition will also be held once again in Valencia. And, in the meantime, Valencia hosted the first urban formula one motor racing circuit after Monaco. The first GP was held at the end of August 2008.
The La Eliana area
LA ELIANA
The villa is situated in the village of La Eliana, surrounded by other villas. The road in front of the house takes you directly to the town centre (5-10 minutes walking). Shops, restaurants, parks, library, sport centre, pharmacy, Health centre, buses, train, etc are within walking distance from the house. There is an underground line which runs straight into the heart of Valencia. The big shopping complex “El Osito” is on the other side of the village, 5 minutes drive, where you can find different shops, including a Carrefour, restaurants and cinemas. The entertainment centre “Heron City” is 5 minutes drive towards Valencia.
The local bars and restaurants provide everything, from tapas to bocadillo sandwiches and menu of the day, which is a low cost fixed price all-inclusive menu, normally with choices and normally only served at weekday lunchtimes. There are a few excellent restaurants. In most of the bars and restaurants you can have your meal on the terrace, with a really nice relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Some restaurants also provide a takeaway and home delivery service.
LA ELIANA AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
The town is located 12 Km northwest of the City of Valencia, near the Mediterranean coast. The region consists of gently rolling foothills crossed by the River Turia. It is in the foothills of the Sierra Calderona National Park, which is ideal for walking, horse-riding, or mountain-biking. Further up the Turia valley, there are interesting villages and towns, such as Lliria, Villamarchante or Chulilla, perched above a Gorge, with ancient castles on the cliffs above. The area has 3 Championship Golf courses: Club Escorpion in Bétera, El Bosque at Godelleta, and El Saler Golf course - voted 2nd best course in Europe by Golf World magazine.
The local towns and villages all have regular fiestas, which are lively family affairs with colourful parades, lots of eating and drinking and the odd firework or two.

"The accommodation was even better than in the pictures. Great House and great hospitality from the owner. The house was very close to local amenities and Valencia city. We had a car but even if we had to use public transport there is both buses and local train stations very near by. There is plenty to do and see around La Eliana. Fantastic holiday. I would use the same accommodation again!" Ana Cabrera, Scotland. 24/10/09
