About the home
Carefully renovated to retain its character with original exposed beams. La Porcherie is part of a 200 year old farm "Le Grand Pré" (the great meadow) which is set in a tranquil rural location with unspoilt views of the gently rolling countryside. A perfect setting for relaxing and a safe environment for the children to play. The site is set 200m off a quiet country lane with open fields all around and very private, yet only 8km (5 miles) from shops and amenities, including the local market and many excellent restaurants.
An area which still retains it's traditional french lifestyle with many chateaux, forests, lakes and rivers to explore,
there is an equestrian centre, fishing and 18 hole international golf course only 5 minutes away at Les Dryads, Pouligny Notre Dame, if you prefer you can just relax or swim in the 11m x 4m heated swimming pool (30°C) no matter what the weather. You have exclusive use of the pool but the garden is shared with the owners.
An excellent base for walking, cycling or exploring.
The night sky in France is full of stars and a sight not to be missed.
See the Indre river just a short walk down the field.

Myself, my husband and our 6 month old baby stayed in the Gite from 15th September for 1 week. We loved it! Phil and Tracey were so accomodating to us with a young baby - the pool temp was turned up, travel cot set up and highchair were all readily available. Very comfortable and well appointed Gite. The local town, La Chatre had lots of shops and cafes to keep you entertained and Chateauroux a little further on was good to visit too.
Would thoroughly recommend this Gite to anyone! thanks for a lovely holiday :-)

We stayed here at the end of October, beginning of November with our two young children and could not fault the property or surroundings. The accommodation is very well equiped (pool towels being provided was a very good idea as meant we didn't have to travel home with wet towels!) and very comfortable too which is something that you cannot always say about rentals. The addition of UK satellite TV was great - kept up with Strictly(!) and the girls had cbeebies to watch on our one rainy day. The pool is obviously the big selling point and we were not disappointed - it was such a treat to be swimming in a heated pool in late October - the weather was not all that warm but as long as you kept your shoulders under you were lovely and toasty warm! Phil looked after us very well and was on hand if we needed anything but very unobtrusive.
All in all, a fantastic stay - our girls loved it and we would love to return again, although maybe at a slightly warmer time of the year! Thank you!

We found La Porcherie on the internet and subsequently booked. As we'd never been before and were slightly nervous but our warm arrival by Phil and Tracey soon put our fears to one side.
What struck me when we were shown around the beautiful gite was just how spotlessly clean and fresh smelling it was - a real relief! The gite was fully equipped with everything you could have possibly imagined and all our needs met. Beds were comfy and the gite provided perfect accommodation for our family of 5.
My only complaint for the first few days was that it was too hot! 36 degrees at the start of our holidays but then again that's a nice problem to have. We took full advantage of the lovely swimming pool which was in excellent condition. The moulded sides and bottom of the pool made it soft on foot and child friendly allowing even our youngest to make her way around the entire pool.
Providing endless hours of fun for the children whilst I relaxed by the poolside with my book was perfect. The view from the swimming pool overlooking the countryside was quite breathtaking and a glimpse of a young deer sprinting across early one morning was stunning.
We were joined on holiday by my parents who flew into Limoges and stayed in a self contained bedroom with adjoining bathroom in the main farmhouse. Phil and Tracey kindly collected and returned my parents from the airport which was lovely and meant that we could enjoy an extended family holiday.
La Chatre was a lovely town and provided all our shopping needs. We didn't do much travelling around as the purpose of our holiday was to relax, have fun and spend some quality family time together which we did in abundance.
Thanks Phil and Tracey for a wonderful holiday and one which we will fondly remember for many years to come.
