The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region
This pretty cottage is set in the heart of the rolling Deux-Sèvres countryside known as the Gâtine is within the Deux Sevres area, bordering the Vendee, the second sunniest region of France. The cottage is set in a peaceful village location and is ideal for walking, cycling or fishing holidays or day trips.
The region enjoys a Mediterrean climate with long, hot sunny days from May through to September. It is surrounded by fields of sunflowers and maize giving and has easy access to the West coast beaches of Royan, Futurescope to the East and Cognac in the South.
The second highest point in the Deux-Sevres at 259m above sea level, the market town of L'Absie is situated on the crossing point of two ancient roman roads. Around a third of this pretty commune is occupied by forest, the woods and lakes providing plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. Restaurants, shops and bars are all within walking distance in the village centre.
The house is in an ideal location for a relaxing holiday as well as the option to explore the nearby Vendee coast and the many attractions such as the Puy du Fou, Futuroscope, La Rochelle as well as other historic sites of interest.
La Chataigneraie area
Nearby attractions include many lakes with beaches, swimming & tennis; “Venise Verte” for punting and canoeing, 9 different golf courses, the Pescalis International Fishing & Nature Centre, Go-karting and an adventure forest, Puy du Fou “historical theme park” and night-time son et lumiere; the futouristic Futuroscope, and many beautiful abbeys and churches to visit.
The village of L'Absie is approximately 15 minutes from La Chataigneraie. The village itself is well served by bars, a restaurant, boulangerie, grocery store, newsagents and a charcuterie/deli.
Pescalis one of the Premier Fishery Complex in Europe is 15 mins drive away.
A number of lakes with beaches are located nearby for swimming.

Able to get cheap flights to Paris, but don't fancy driving down? You can catch TGV from Paris to Poitier. This takes approximately 1.5 hrs by train and the station is approx 50km from the house. Avis will hire cars from Poitier train station.

We prefer Saturday changeovers, but depending on the time of year some flexibility in the changeover day may be possible. We would also consider bookings for other than complete weeks (for example 10 days) depending on the time of year, so please contact us to discuss your personal needs.
