The Andalucia region

The friendly picturesque village, with its orange tree lined streets, is just minutes from Iznajar, and is the closest of its hamlets. The name La Celada is derived from Latin - 'hidden villa'. Traditionally the local industry is olive farming and the village boasts its own olive mill. The shop and bar means that you get provisions or have a drink locally without having to drive.

There is a beautiful church - San Jose - who is the patron saint of the village. A four day celebration around the saint's day, March 19th is something you will never forget. The nearest restaurant is just 1.2km away - a leisurely walk or short drive - which is very popular with locals and tourists alike.

Iznajar is ideally situated just one hour from Malaga, Granada and Cordoba, a perfect location for sightseeing if you wish to visit major cultural attractions, Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Cordoba and much more. It is set in the beautiful rolling hills and olive groves of the Subbetica Natural Park and located on the beautiful 32km Lake, the largest in Andalucia.

The Beach

Valdearanas Beach on the lake is where you can swim, rent pedalos and kayaks, sail and much more. There are two beach bars/restaurants located directly on the beach.

Iznajar Town

Iznajar itself is unspoiled and traditional; a labyrinth of typical whitewashed Andalucían houses dotted around narrow lanes. The castle, perched at the top, dates from the 8th century and church from the 16th century, which can be visited along with several museums and exhibitions. There are breathtaking views over the lake.

The Fiestas are second to none. Semana Santa (Easter), San Isidro and the two annual Ferias are to name but a few. Each of Iznajar's hamlets all have their own celebrations in addition, usually to celebrate their own individual patron saint. Many of the local fiestas last three or four days!

Food & Drink

There are many bars and restaurants offering an excellent range of cuisines, many with typical Spanish dishes. Many bars offer delicious traditional tapas with your drink, either free or for a nominal 30c!!!!

Other Activities in and around Iznajar

There are many but some examples are:

Stunning outdoor swimming pool by the beach.

Gym and other leisure facilities.

Donkey riding

Vespa tours

Horse riding

Paddle tennis

Birdwatching & Wildlife Tours

There are many local shops but the nearest large supermarket - Mercadona is located about 7km in the next town of Rute. Easily accessible.

La Celada

Casa Las Eras is the ideal location to visit several top European visitors attractions. Granada is just one hour's drive and home to the stunning Moorish architecture of the Alhambra with its Nasrid Palaces. Cordoba, a little over an hour, is where you can visit the Mesquita - Great Mosque of Cordoba. is one of the oldest structures still standing from the time Muslims ruled Al-Andalus. One hour south is Malaga and the many resorts of the Costa del Sol where you can find waterparks and many other activity centres, particularly ideal for the kids!!
