The Andalucia region
La Cala de Mijas is located between Malaga and Marbella on the Costa del Sol. The area is well known for its year round temperate climate and offers a wealth of activities to suit all tastes and ages. The Costa del Sol is full of contrasts, with quiet rural areas just a couple of kilometres from the busier coast which gives holidaymakers the opportunity to pick and choose activities and areas to visit.
La Cala de Mijas
La Cala, a former fishing village, is the perfect base for a holiday as it has all of the advantages of a town (bars, restaurants, supermarket) but is small enough to give holidaymakers the opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. La Cala is well located for the many activities on offer. The area is known as Golf Valley because of its abundance of golf courses. El Chaparral, La Cala Golf, Miraflores, Mijas Golf and Cabopino are all within minutes of the villa.
Other activities include evening horse racing at the Hipodromo, horse riding, Tivoli World at Benalmadena, watersports, Tennis Club del Sol, dolphin spotting boat trips from Fuengirola etc.

We stayed at Villa Sophia in early October. Villa was well equiped with open plan lounge, dining and kitchen very modern design and has recently been renovated. There was 7 of us and there was more than enough room, ideal for 2 families of 3 or 4. Three Bedrooms are downstairs and two bathrooms one of which an ensuite and a large bedroom and en suite bathroom upstairs with large terrace upstairs which gets the sun all day. There was a third terrace off the kitchen with a large table and umbrella/parasol for shade ideal for daytime or evening outdoor dining. The villa is also sat in large grounds and there's a large wall at the front aswell which extends along the side of the pool making the pool area nice and private. There is also a very nice sea view from the pool area and from sun terrace on the second floor. Definately recommend this villa, also the location is good, close to the airport only about 30 minutes drive from the airport. Only a few things I found to be at fault, there were no spare towels and there was no tumble drier to dry towels in, whether there is one in the garage or basement I don't know both were locked. We we had to contact the couple that look after the villa and they were very prompt at bringing clean towels over. Beach towels and sun bed covers/cushions - these are not provided at the villa, I have stayed at a few properties before via holiday lettings where beach towels and sun bed covers have been provided. Although the sun loungers were fairly comfortable without cushions with them being textoline material. Upstairs master suite - it would have been useful if there was a mini fridge to use upstairs for drinks, while using the sun terrace upstairs we had to keep going downstairs to get drinks during the day. Apart from these few very minor things everything else about the villa is very good and it is a very nice place to stay.

The villa and surroundings were perfect for our party which was two families, each of two adults and two young (12 and 11) girls. The villa was spotless when we arrived and we were greeted by Ron and Helen for whom nothing was too much trouble. They were extremely helpful and offered excellent advice on local amenities, days out, restaurants etc when asked. The villa and pool looked great – large, airy, good air conditioning, very well stocked and with a lovely view. There is an excellent supermarket within a brisk 10 minute walk which stocks everything and la Cala is a further 5 minutes on – loads of restaurants for all tastes, a Wednesday and Saturday market, and a small evening time beach front promenade with stalls. There is a small, fairly quiet beach very close to the villa (about 400m away) if you don’t fancy the main beach in la Cala. No car was needed for any of this, but we used fairly cheap local taxis for the horse racing and Aqua Park, and very cheap buses for a day out in the old town (Mijas Pueblo) which is highly recommended – very traditional (narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, bullring, loads of places to eat). We had great weather and all really enjoyed the two weeks. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
