La Branjardiere is a tastefully restored, comfortable and tranquil period cottage situated on the edge of a village in the Vendee. Ideal for families and couples, the cottage is fully equipped whilst maintaining a relaxed traditional feel. Enjoy cosy evenings in by the light of the wood-burning stove or dozy afternoons in the pretty cottage garden terrace.
The stone-built cottage is full of beams and period features, furnished in country antique style with modern fixtures and fittings, and comprises a large eat-in kitchen a spacious reception room, a store room, two bedrooms (one very generous double and a twin) and two bathrooms. Given its semi-rural location, the cottage is surprisingly well placed for a variety of the region's delightful attractions.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region


La Vendée has a superb, sunny climate. The region's historical importance has left it plenty of churches and historical buildings. The countryside is hugely varied, with a coastline (about an hour away) of long sandy beaches, lush forests and the dreamy canals of the Venise Verte.
There are many towns and cities to explore (about an hour by car) – La Rochelle, Nantes, Niort, Cholet. La Roche sur Yon (45 mins), Poitiers (90 mins). The celebrated Loire Valley lies just to the north of the region.
The Grand Parc du Puy du Fou (just over an hour) provides a great day out for the family - see www.puydufou.com/uk.
The La Caillere Saint-Hilaire area
Closer to home are the Tower of Bazoges en Pareds, the Museum of the Two Victories Clemenceau-de Lattre at Mouilleron en Pareds, the Mining Centre at Faymoreau, the abbeys at Nieul sur l’Autise and Maillezais, the Forest of Mervent- Vouvant and the Venise Verte.
There are weekly markets at many nearby towns. Chantonnay (15mins) has a very good supermarket, other general shopping, and a swimming pool. The village has an excellent butcher, baker and good basic shops.

This must be the perfect gite. A great location in the lovely Vendee in a small village with everything on hand within a few kilometres. It really lives up to the photos - including the sheep grazing over the fence. I only wish it was April to see the Wisteria. The gite is beautifully decorated while feeling homely and welcoming. Julia the owner has thought of everything. It's all very easy and relaxing which is just what you want. A lovely home from home from which to explore all the fabulous towns and villages. |
