About the home
La Treille is a delightful gite, recently renovated to a high standard. It is set in the two acre garden of the owner's home, where there is a 10m x 5m salt-water swimming pool, a hard tennis court and plenty of room for children to play. Or perfect for you to lounge around on a comfy sunbed, catching up on all that reading!
There is a second gite within the grounds.
There are two double bedrooms. (One with two single beds and the main bedroom with a double bed).
The property has a large salon with extremely generous sofas, TV/DVD, dining table, well stocked bookcase and large wood-burning stove; the kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and the various bits and pieces you might hope to find. A true "Home from Home"
All linen and towels are supplied by the owner (please bring your own towels for poolside use.......or for a small fee, poolside towels can be provided upon request). Baby paraphernalia is available on request. The gite can be centrally heated during the colder weeks for a small additional charge.

The double bedroom is large and looks out over lawn to the tennis court and the swimming pool beyond. There is a comfortable chair and low table providing a private area for reading or relaxing.
The salon, too, has the emphasis on comfort - two large sofas, a selection of music, a choice of DVDs, masses of books (English) and a woodburning stove for those autumn or spring evenings.
The kitchen is equipped to make your stay as easy as possible with all the facilities you would expect and there's plenty of storage space.

An enormous network of clearly marked footpaths lead from La Treille and you can go for a stroll or ramble for hours; an American-style riding stable just minutes away which offers lessons or accompanied rides through the woods for adults and children; The forest of Mervent with it's mountain bike centre is 15 minutes away; the 127 hectare lac Rocherau is nearby with fishing, boating and a beach. The seemingly endless sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast are about an hour distant where you can take advantage of the Vendée's wonderful climate.
And for the more culturally minded, the numerous chateaux of the Loire, local museums and galleries are waiting to be explored.

A welcome pack can be made available on arrival - larder basics + a few treats. Let us know what you need and we will buy for you and you can reimburse us on arrival please.
Owner lives in separate adjacent house. Available to help if necessary - also to keep garden in shape.
A security deposit of 100 Euros is required on arrival and is returned to you, less any breakages or damage fees, at the end of your stay.
Cleaning: We ask that the gîte is left by guests in the same condition in which it was found.
Clients to take out their own travel insurance policy giving full personal liability cover for all members of the party.(under French law this is not covered by the property owners insurance)
Changeover day is Saturday.
Arrival at the property should be after 4.00 pm and departure by 10.30 am please.
Conditions
25% of rental fee to secure booking, with balance due 6 weeks before arrival.
The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region
The Vendee has a similar amount of sunshine hours per year as the South of France, but mercifully less intense. With lush countryside, the superb climate and miles of sandy coastline, La Vendée is often described as one of the best kept secrets in France. Beautiful churches, abbeys and chateaux highlight the region's historical importance. La Treille is less than an hour from coast (fantastic beaches), and not so far from the Western Loire and its famous châteaux.
La Caillere is located in the bocage area of the Vendee, an area of rolling countryside dotted with lakes and forests.
There are many historical places of interest and great theme parks at Puy-du-Fou (45min) and Futuroscope (90min). There are also many towns and cities to explore (about an hour by car) – La Rochelle, Nantes, Niort, Cholet, La Roche sur Yon (45 mins), Poitiers (90 mins).
The Grand Parc du Puy du Fou (around an hour) provides a great day out for the family - check out its website www.puydufou.com/uk.
The La Caillere Saint-Hilaire area
La Caillere is a large village with a range of shops consisting of a small well stocked super market, boulangerie, boucherie, poissonerie (weekends only), pharmacie, banks, bar/tabac, petrol station, pizzeria and restaurant. There is also a football pitch for ball games and a skateboard park about 5 minutes walk away.
Around La Caillere there are many tracks and lanes perfect for walking and cycling.
Of the many places to visit nearby are Fontenay-le-Comte with its ancient streets of Renaissance houses, Vouvant one of the most beautiful villages in France and the vast Mervent-Vouvant forest to name just a few.
We have a superb salt water swimming pool and a hard tennis court on site
Closer to us, there is the Tower of Bazoges en Pareds, the Museum of the Two Victories Clemenceau-de Lattre at Mouilleron en Pareds, the Mining Centre at Faymoreau, the abbeys at Nieul sur l’Autise and Maillezais, the Forest of Mervent- Vouvant.
La Treille sits directly on an extensive network of clearly marked footpaths – there is a selection of easy-to-follow maps in the gite.

As a family of four and our second visit to the same gite we found it spacious, comfortable, tennis court and swimming pool ideal especially for our teenage boys. Owners on site if you need them but never intrusive. Grounds immaculately kept, gite was very extremely clean and tidy when we arrived. Very peaceful location within easy reach of a fantastic boulangerie for early morning croissants and within 15 mins drive to Supermarche. Highly recommended. |

Had a fantastic stay with Sue and Richard in their gorgeous gite. The immaculately kept garden is incredible with sweeping lawns down to the private tennis court and pool. Was such a luxury to have our own tennis court! We also found the location perfect enabling us to spend plenty of days on the beach at La Rochelle & La Tranche sur Mer. The gite has all the mod cons, was very clean and is tastefully decorated. It was suitable for our 2 and 4 year old girls and they loved playing with the 2 friendly labradors, Barney and Rubble. Am sure we'll be back! |
