The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region

The Pyrenees Atlantiques has long been a popular area with the British. It has a mild climate and sunshine hours compare well to the Cote d'Azur. The Basque region is rich in history and culture and its cuisine is excellent. Pau, Biarritz, Bayonne and St. Jean de Luz are all beautiful historic nearby towns. The mill is situated just outside the village of La Bastide Clairence, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is a typical Basque-style village, with various different artisan's galleries, including sculptors and mosaic. Amenities in the village include a small supermarket, post office, bakers, cafe/bar and a restaurant. There is also a teashop/gallery and a lovely gift shop selling pottery, candles and locally made perfume. There are 2 larger supermarkets a 10 minute drive from the mill.

Guestbook for Moulin de Pierretoune

"Everything about the holiday was lovely and I could bore you with pages of
gushing praise! The house is beautiful and very homey... There were so many nice
touches; the cut flowers everywhere, the books, guide books..., magazines, the children's books, ... the beach mats, the fabulous shower, the herb garden, the UK tv
We visited Biarritz and St Jean-de-Luz regularly and love both of them.
So anyway, let me just say a simple 'thank you' for having such a lovely house in such a lovely place.
We would love to come again. We will recommend it to all
who ask and look forward to another great holiday."
A. Coulier, Vendee, France

"We stayed in the mill in the last week of July/August and had a lovely time. The kids really appreciated all the toys and boogie boards and the house was just perfect. Ghislaine was really nice and helpful too."
N. Davis, London

New Year 2006/07: "Thank you for having us at moulin de pierretoune. We absolutely
loved it. It was very well equipped and nice and clean. We were
especially lucky with the weather which was unseasonably warm -
21degrees on new years eve."
L. Gresswell, London

February 2007: "Sunday was really nice and we drove down to St Jean de Luz. The weather the rest of the week was beautiful, blue skies and some heat to go with it. The mill was a great location for our househunting and it was great to come back to at the end of the stressful days. We had breakfast on your terrace most mornings setting us up for the day ahead. Many Thanks'
Mr. & Mrs. B. Lavery, N. Ireland

My daughter and I spent an idyllic week in this beautiful house in May 2008. Having travelled from Australia, and seeking a truly French countryside experience, we were certainly not disappointed! The Mill House was everything we hoped for, and more! The riverside location is stunning.. the surrounding countryside is breathtaking.. and the house is beautifully decorated and furnished, whilst still retaining its historical charm and warmth. The care that has been taken in meeting every need and comfort of their guests makes this house very special. The nearby town of La Bastide Clairence deserves its title of ‘most beautiful village in France’ and its people are friendly and welcoming. The proximity of Biarritz and Anglet is a bonus, with both towns boasting magnificent beaches and fabulous restaurants! Day trips to St. Jean de Luz, San Sebastian and Pau were added highlights of our holiday, and highly recommended. We feel truly blessed to have experienced Moulin de Pierretoune and cannot imagine a more perfect place for both a relaxing and enriching holiday, for all ages.
Rhonda & Ashlea. Melbourne, Australia
