At the most easterly point of the sweeping bay of Mazarron, tucked away beneath a dramatic mountain backdrop enjoying a unique micro climate and crystal clear, safe, shallow waters is the lovely traditional fishing village of La Azohia. With all the amenities of bustling neighbouring resorts only a 10 minute drive away, this idyllic haven is the perfect base for a seaside family holiday or for exploring the many attractions of the Murcia region. Come and visit La Azohia for a taste of real Spain at its best.
We are able to offer the upper 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom holiday property occupying the same fabulous front line corner plot as El Mirador (property13740 - see link at the bottom of page), which has already proved so popular with our guests. It has glorious elevated and completely uninterrupted south westerly views right over the village to the quaint marina where at night you can see the twinkle of lights as the sun sets over the bay. Whether sitting out on the sunny terrace off the lounge or making full use of the huge private solarium, with its traditional stone BBQ, tables, chairs, sun loungers, pergola and shower, the open views from La Casita are quite unsurpassed on this already much sought after new development.
Furnished to the highest of standards with leather corner seating and traditional Spanish solid wood/rattan furniture finished in a cool blue you will find this a most welcoming holiday home. The Costa Calida/Murcia region
When heading South from the great stretches of beach around the Mar Menor lagoon, the coastline becomes increasingly mountainous with just occasional isolated coves and once south of Cartagena the scenery becomes ever more stunning. Half way between Cartagena and the now bustling resort of Puerto Mazarron there is a turning off the main road to the beautiful fishing village of La Azohia, at the most easterly point of the Gulf of Mazarron. The mountains finally recede behind a promontory called Cabo Tinoso, giving way again to vast stretches of beach which go all the way to Puerto Mazarron and beyond. The village is in a truly beautiful location, still closely bound by a backdrop of dramatic scenery before the gulf deepens further inland, which not only protects it from easterly winds but, perhaps more importantly, from further development.
La Azohia area
The beach at La Azohia is gently shelving with shallow, warm waters with sand underfoot and a beautiful new palm-lined promenade stretching two miles ensuring a memorable evening stroll along the sea front as the sun sets across the bay. Much prized by the Spanish the sea here is considered amongst the clearest in Spain and has been granted blue flag status for many years with the deeper waters at Cabo Tinoso known by divers far and wide for their colourful sea beds and by the local fishermen who still bring in their daily tuna catches to the quaint marina.
El Pinar de San Gines nestles behind lovely mature villas in the exclusive San Gines district of La Azohia on the lower slopes of the mountain, on what was pine forest. It is in an incredibly quiet and peaceful spot yet just a five minute walk through lovely residential avenues to the best part of the seafront and a couple of good restaurants. It was the first (and is likely to be the only) development of its kind to be allowed here and is built in traditional Andalucian ‘pueblo’ style in order to be in keeping with the surroundings – with winding paths, lovely private gardens and communal swimming pools. The development itself is already taking on the air of a village within a village and proving very popular with families as children can play safely. A small children's play area with swings and bouncy animals can be found in the village just 3 minutes or so walk from La Casita.
Seasonal seafront facilities along La Azohis cove include water sports, showers and snack bars. There are children's play areas and, around the marina, several professional diving schools for which guests are given contact details to pre-book courses. The area is well known for excellent fishing and come early evening you will see the locals unwinding awaiting a catch on the beaches of Isla Plana, the next village which adjoins La Azohia. There is a limited selection of good restaurants and bars in La Azohia itself, in Isla Plana and extensive facilities in the bustling port of Mazarron just ten minutes drive away. Opportunity for wonderful walking is provided in the local hills or the Sierra Espuna natural park inland. Spa facilities are available at the 4* Azohia Hotel & the internationally renowned spa town of Archena with its fantastic thermal hydrotherapy pools is only around an hour's drive away at the gateway to the beautiful Ricote valley. For cultural excursions the town of Cartagena with its ancient port & Murcia with its magnificent Baroque cathedral should not be missed. Both have El Corte Ingles department stores for those with shopping in mind. A little furthert afield in the north of the region can be found many ancient towns such as Caravaca de la Cruz, one of the five Holy Cities. There are also many colourful markets and fiestas. There are several golf courses nearby including the famous La Manga Club. Our guests are provided with a comprehensive & detailed travel guide to ensure they make the most of this diverse corner of Spain.

Occupancy Notes: We feel that in order to enjoy a property at its best it should not be unreasonably over-occupied and that bedrooms are for sleeping in and lounges for living in! For this reason there are no sofa beds. La Casita is intended to be your 'home' and not just somewhere to sleep. However, we do have a guest bed suitable for use in the master bedroom which will accommodate a child or young adult (7th guest) and which is available at our discretion depending your party make up and availability (it is shared with El Mirador).
Further details outdoors: From the lounge terrace there are steps up to the enormous solarium (75 sq metres), for the exclusive use of La Casita guests, which due to the superb front line location has uninterrupted open views over the village below to the harbour and Tower of Saint Elena beyond. There is a stunning stone tiled BBQ in traditional Spanish chimney style plus tables and chairs seating up to 10 and four commercial quality sun loungers. There is a large shaded wooden pergola, a shower and power point. The pool is just a minutes walk away - conveniently placed but sufficiently away as to not allow any disturbance from pool noise.

Guestbook for La Casita
'We are all now back in wet and windy England, we all had a fantastic time and met nice people, views from solarium fantastic. Thanks for all your help.'
'What a great time we had in La Azohia. Your apartment was lovely, it was well equipped and in a fantastic position, it was perfect! We loved sitting on the balcony any time of the day or night and look across at the mountains and out to sea. The views are so beautiful and we were very sad to leave your apartment. We were very impressed with the service we received from Jane. We loved our holiday in La Azohia so much we would certainly like to stay at your apartment again, some time in the near future we hope.' (repeat booking made)
'Hi Linda . Your haven in La Azohia is wonderful. The sights and sounds of the sea are so immediate and present, and inside all the family had their own personal space. Thank you .'
'Very impressed - 5* apartment. We all enjoyed everything. We had every comfort we needed to make our stay memorable. Thank you Linda'
'Lovely thank you. Well equipped, eveything we could think of. Comfortable and quiet. Great area - just what we were looking for. Warmest place in Europe this week! (March). The guns were cool. Thanks for all the info.'
'Excellent appt - very well equipped and very clean - very easy to book and welcome superb. A lovely time was had by all. Would certainly book with Linda again. Many thanks.'
'The apartment and area were just as described, if not better, and we had a really nice holiday. We certainly hope to return in a few years possibly with no kids in tow, and spend a couple of weeks just chilling out on the roof terrace enjoying a glass of red and the fine views. The apartment was really nice and welcoming, extremely clean and well serviced. The service by Jane Harris was excellent as well. All in all a really nice time and already it seems a long time ago! Again a fantastic holiday. Would recommend area and place to anyone.'
