The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region
Saumane : 5km
Former home/castle of the infamous, late Marquis de Sade !!! Some excellent walks
around the region up by the castle itself.
Gorges : 12km
A very picturesque village high up in the Luberon with stunning views of the region
with some excellent cafes/restaurants.
Best way to get there is through Vaucluse, over the bridge, then turn left after about
800 metres and follow the signs.
Avignon : 25km
Famous and historic fortified city : Le Pont St Benezet (of “sur le pont, D'Avignon”
fame !), the very impressive Palais des Papes, and with many cafes/bars, restaurants
and shops within the old walled town. Major stores also, ie Galleries Lafayette,
Decathlon etc on the drive into town, just past the airport.
Chateauneuf du Pape : 30km
Worth a visit for their world famous and excellent red wine ! Numerous Chateau and
vineyards to visit and do some wine tasting !.
Ardeche : 70km
About 90 minutes drive up into the spectacular Ardeche Gorge with fantastic white-water canoeing, walking and cycling.
L'Isle sur la Sorgue
L'Isle sur la Sorgue : 3km
The local medieval town is known as the “Venice of Provence”, and is the antiques capital of the South of France. It has lots of good bars, cafes and restaurants with many small shops on the narrow back streets. (Most closed on Mondays) They also have a large market on Sunday mornings.
There are 2 supermarkets within 2/3km , Super U and Intermarche, where you will find pretty much anything you will need.
Good restaurants/cafes : Bistrot de L'Industrie, Casa di Paolo, Salon de The, Belle Vue.
Fontaine de Vaucluse : 3km
Spectacular home to the most powerful river source in France, and 5th in the world.
The source of the Sorgue begins almost 1000ft below ground.
Good restaurants : Le Petrarque et Laurie, Le Verdenet
Kayak Vert, for those who fancy a not too strenuous canoe down the Sorgue, which
takes about 2 hours, can be found just 1km away on the road to Vaucluse on the right,
just after the Aquaduct.
For those adventurous enough there is a “Go Ape” – type assault course (takes about
2 hours). Just 2km from PCC. Turn left out of the main entrance towards Vaucluse,
right at the cross roads, and right again at T-junction. 100 metres on left.
Both the above activities are seasonal so best to call first for bookings/opening times.
